A Mature game, is something that can change your thoughts deeply when playing it. In most cases, it's gore, and profanity. But stories like Professor Layton, and 999 can also be mature.
sex, drugs, language, blood, gore, rock 'n roll, this:
Totally mature because kids would not be able to comprehend singing poop
i'm talking about the terd's language in the song. a poo singing about how it will drown that squirrel in it's poo. whatever. i really don't want to talk about this specific subject about crud.

Any 12 year old playing a game like GTA isn't playing it too have fun. They're probably just playing for the mature content
when I was 12 and playing GTA (pls don't judge haha) I wasn't in it for the complexity of the game. Figuring out how to jack a car and get away with it without getting shot was fun for me, although I didn't see how the missions all related to the theme of action and consequence. The game's discussion of the legal system and the nature of crime in what was a very thinly disguised New York went riiiiiiight over my head. Instead, stealing cars, hitting people for money and not getting caught was the name of the game. It was still fun, mind you, but I didn't give it a second thought.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
I always though of it as games that don't have violence, gore, and that sorta stuff just for the sake of having it. I always keep in mind the purpose it serves and the overall nature of the game, games like GTA, Madworld, and NMH are supposed to be over-the-top and unrealistic but theres a lot more to the story compared to House of the Dead which is wall-to-wall gore. I usually consider games like MGS or RDR to be mature because of the way they present it and the former's symbolism.
I don't get whats with kids and swearing these days growing up it hardly crossed my mind, not just because obviously my parents would be mad but I just didn't and still don't swear much. My friends actually comment on how they never hear me swear when I do. I did find it "cooler" when characters in games or movies swore but only because "you *******" sounded better in that context to me than "you jerk" or whatever.
