Topic: What are some good (not great) games that you feel deserve a remake?

Not games that are hidden gems (great games that didn't sell well/ were marketed poorly/ or released at the wrong time) Though games like Earthbound and many others do deserve one...

I mean games that were ok or good that had a great concept but didn't execute it well/ fully.

W&G: Curse of the were-rabbit for ps2 and Xbox could go from a good game to a great game with QOL improvements and heavily updated visuals.

Rabbids go home for wii is in the same boat as its one of the better 'Rabbids' games to come out of this Era. Improve the visuals, add co-op, maybe an online mode and it would probably outsell the original!

But that's some games that I think deserve a remake, what's yours?

Metroid Prime Hunters

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters

Kero Blaster

Dragon Quest II (well, this one IS getting a remake soon...)

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

And of course... Donkey Kong 64

From the SNES - "The Secret of Mana" - but I'd want a full 3D voice-acted remake, something similar to the FF7 remake style

Also, Resi 6 (likely already on the cards...) could have great remake potential. We already know that Capcom are excellent at remaking the more beloved games in the series, but I'm hopeful they could turn public opinion on this entry

@CJD87 Sacrilige. Greatest game of all time for me. 😁
We also had a remake with voice acting, although it wasn't entirely in full 3D like I think you mean.

@Tanookduke "W&G: Curse of the were-rabbit" I played that and remember thinking it was far better than it had any right to be for a movie tie in. They put in so much more effort than they could have got away with for it!

While I will die on the hill for Secret of Mana, I would put Secret of Evermore into the pile for this topic. It has all the right ingredients as SOM, with the ring wheel, look, and stamina meter, but it misses out on the magic. I’m not just talking about the clunky alchemy system needed for magic, which could definitely use some quality-of-life improvements.

Not making the dog playable for co-op was a missed opportunity, even though they apparently planned to but didn’t for some reason.

I still really enjoy it, but it’s clear why it doesn’t have a bigger following or a sequel.

I'll mention one that I think is great but many others think of as just good. I would totally play the Violet version of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet remakes years from now even though I already own the original Violet. I just love the game that much, hence it being my most favorite video game. I've heard a lot of people online complain about stuff like performance issues, so those stuff could be not present at all in a remake 15-20 years down the line.

My top 5 favorite games:
1: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1
2: Pokémon Violet
3: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
4: The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening (2019)
5: Animal Crossing New Horizons

@Mana_Knight
I know right! It featured all the voice actors from the movie.
A soundtrack (for the most part) that sounds like something you would hear in wallace and gromit, a fully explorable world (with references to the other short movies), along with the surprisingly fun/ challenging gameplay of protecting vegetables with a handheld vacuum cleaner.

All made by Konami of Europe!

Phantasy Star online or a reboot of Phantasy Star Zero. Then there's Skies of Arcadia, Panzer Dragoon Saga. Just to name a couple sega releases. A reboot of the the original Phantasy Star would be sweet

Still playing 3DS but will have Switch soon for multiplayer with friends. I miss you guys! Adam, Joni, Gavin and the rest of the Blue Rogues from the Phantasy Star Zero Days.

-Sonic Unleashed but have Platinum remake the werehog levels.

-Fragile Dreams with good gameplay of some sort

-Basically any remaining NES RPG that doesn't already have a remake that's worth going back to (Earthbound Beginnings?)

-Pokemon Colosseum but with the darker story (or any story worth getting invested in tbh) it could have had (and the slight improvements XD had too)

-Geist

-Sonic 4

-Contact (DS game)

-Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time (has the best combat of any Mario RPG maybe, so I'd kill to see it with better story and not making the game a level select screen that feels more linear than even the other Mario RPGs)

Though more often than not I'd prefer a sequel instead stares at Yooka Laylee remake/remaster thing that's happening with no Yooka Laylee sequel in sight

I think it’s crazy how to this day they still haven’t remade Banjo-Tooie or any of the N64 Banjo games. While I don’t think that it’s a bad sequel like some people say and I find it pretty good (albeit less than the first), plus some of the ideas they had for that were really cool, like the GoldenEye shooter segments, all the worlds/levels being connected to each other (something I never see in platformer games) and all the new moves you learn in it, but I think it’s gameplay is kinda terrible compared to the first game, since Tooie is shoved with difficult minigames that can get annoying, having bloated level design that makes it hard for me to go back to, and a buttload, and I mean a BUTTLOAD of backtracking.

I’d like if there was a remake of it that addressed the annoying aspects of the gameplay, maybe they could reduce the constant backtracking, making it easier and less time-consuming to explore larger worlds, or made some of the minigames less difficult and actually more fun to play through, with better modern controls on top of that. I find the first game is almost flawless and has no gigantic problems unlike Tooie (in my opinion) but it would be cool if that one got a remake as well, though I honestly have no hope for a Banjo comeback at all…

EDIT: and although it ultimately didnt release on a Nintendo console, I’d say Kameo: Elements of Power too. I think that one had a kind of interesting shapeshifting concept and had lots of fun elemental creatures you could turn into, plus there was this pretty fun aspect in the gameplay where when you have an attack combo on for a bit, it fills up a meter and slows down time to make it easier to attack enemies. However, I think the game suffered from having kind of mediocre and repetitive gameplay (especially when playing as the protagonist herself and none of the animal transformations) and a very boring and forgettable story and cast of characters. It would be nice if there was a remake that made the gameplay more fun, and had less repetitive gameplay with less annoying puzzles, and maybe tried to make the story and characters a bit more interesting.

About somebody brought this up. Phantasy Star Zero doesn't get the love it deserves nowadays despite being a DS game, it's still a competent one imo.

I absolutely love Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal, but the remakes did virtually nothing to address the post-Johto balancing issues, nor had they expanded upon Johto by adding more buildings, quests, larger routes etc. so that our time there wasn't so short-lived. Frustratingly, even the stripped-down version of Kanto was replicated in the remake, despite a lack of cartridge memory no longer being an excuse for it.

The remakes also inherited the hideously sluggish Gen IV engine, further putting me off from ever replaying it. Had they waited to release the remakes with the engine tweaks/optimisations that Gen V had brought to the table, then perhaps I would have viewed the remakes more favourably.

Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee also sucked as they basically replicated the original basic maps/quests instead of using the opportunity to completely reimagine and modernise Kanto (especially given that it was the main series' first home console game). The most embarrassing thing I've found about the remakes is the fact that the binoculars at the lookout spots only display a text box (like the original games) instead of visually rendering what the player is supposed to be looking at!

Porygon did nothing wrong.

The ones I can think of is Crash: Wrath of Cortex and Twinsanity. Knuckle's Chaotix, Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly and Hero's Tail, The Simpsons: Hit & Run & Rampage Total Destruction.

Come to the think of it...Crash: Wrath of Cortex and Spyro: Hero's Tail were quite average compared to Twinsanity and Enter the Dragonfly where those two were quite buggy unfinished imo. Though...I've never got to play Hero's Tail back then. Simspons: Hit and Run is perfectly playable but could use some re-balances on some of the missions and some QoL improvements. As for Rampage Total Destruction...I feel a remamster is all it needs honestly. When it first came out, it had no glitches or bugs but the gameplay could get tiresome after awhile but other than that...it was a polished (maybe?) game overall.

And Knuckles Chaotix needs a complete overhaul on the gamplay and physics. Also the level design needs some tweaking and better level select system too. The graphics, sprites and music are fine as it is.

@SillyG I didn't like how Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee took out the traditional battle system with wild pokemon. Plus...they didn't even add the VS Seeker item that allowed you to have rematches with trainers you already fought. That's what I liked about FireRed and LeafGreen on GBA.

@DanijoEX-The-Kumiho : I was also disappointed with the absence of FR/LG content in the remakes, and those games also felt woefully unfinished, with the Sevii Islands being so small and barren (one cave is completely empty, and whatever had been planned for it never materialised), and a seemingly random smattering of non-Kanto Pokémon populating the wild, with the additional plot going absolutely nowhere.

I was hoping to be able to visit Alola in the post-game (especially with the inclusion of Alolan forms of Kanto Pokémon), but perhaps my expectations were a touch unrealistic in that regard.

I didn't mind the split between catching and battling mechanics in Let's Go though. OHKOing the same old monsters repeatedly got tiresome, so the novelty of catching them with motion controls/gyro aiming was a nice change of pace. But perhaps they could have given players the option to substitute them for traditional battles as well.

Porygon did nothing wrong.

Ys V is a big one for me, it's weird having a mainline game that is not canon and yet there are references to it in the other games that are canon
Zelda II is also a good shout, I want to like that game more but there is a lot that stops it from being a game I enjoy, like the temples and combat
It would still have to be a side-scroller though, I don't want them to turn it into a top-down game, it wouldn't be Zelda II at that point

they/them

I am simultaneously annoyed that anyone would be unsatisfied with HG/SS, which is basically peak Pokemon, but would also absolutely buy a high quality remake in this regard more than any other Pokemon game.
