@Sunsy Everything decides the player base, we can have sequels come out on the same console no problem but different modes are a curse? Heck no, favoring characters in patches divides the players base more then modes, I will never understand ether.
@Snatcher Thanks for reading my post, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I remember, older online games had multiple modes and people played what they wanted. No one complained about one mode taking players away from another mode. It just feels like a thing in recent years whenever a battle royale game dares to get an additional non-BR mode. Maybe it might bring in players who would have never touched the BR mode, which means more players for the game. To me, it just feels like BR players are scared of having less players to play BR with, in case of Apex, there's lots playing at any given time, so there shouldn't be a worry.
Will be honest, I had more fun with Arenas, Winter Express, Gun Run, and Control modes in Apex than battle royale. This is coming from a guy who does like playing the BR mode too (seriously, just played some no-fill duos just to chill, have fun, and see how long I'd survive, lol).
Honestly, having some fun with the new Team DM mode at least (won three games today), I'm ok with it as a replacement for Arenas. I do miss Arenas as an option though.
Hot take: Battle Royale is one of the most casual game modes I have ever played. Aside from the times there's a gunfight in-game, and the fact you can't respawn (unless it's Apex or Realm Royale), most of the game is spent looting weapons and gear, staying out of enemy sight, and traveling the map.
This is coming from someone who likes Apex and Realm Royale too. Just an observation I made having played other online games.

@Eagly Indeed, and everyone is spread out compared to an arena shooter like Quake. You could stay out of sights and have a chill time in a BR and get lucky, where as the other, it's close quarters chaos with like 16 players bunny hopping around!
Here people call Fortnite sweaty, play Quake and the difference is day and night.

I never like Online Only games as those games only depended on active servers, not to mention ultra stable connection and monthly subscription to continue the game. And once the server get closed, adios the games and it was a scam for me.
I found the socializing aspect from online play was really lame excuse, I mean we can have actual conversations face 2 face without using online games as the options to have socializing aspect.
@Anti-Matter I don't think that's an unpopular opinion. A lot of people do enjoy playing online only games, but I don't think anyone likes a server shut down for the simple reason it means you can't play the game anymore.
Personally, I like the old-school method of online gaming. In the past, many PC games allowed players to host the game server itself, and others would join via IP address. Developers use to include this option on many PC games. It's actually why some older online games could still be played to this day.

Yeah, you can still play games like Quake, from nearly thirty years ago, because you can host your own servers for it. For a more modern example, there's Minecraft. The problem is really just one for games where it's only the game publishers that get to run the servers.
That's not to say that every game should, or even could, be released that way. It's much easier to fiddle things like RNG values and compromise anti-cheating software when you're the server host and things like micro-transactions, even if only for cosmetics, necessitate a secure server.
Games like Destiny or Genshin Impact only really make sense as live services. I don't think there's anything wrong with enjoying them for what they are, but try to remember their ephemeral nature before whaling them.
I think I might have an unpopular opinion that could end all unpopular opinions, so anyway, here goes:
I find the insane popularity that Grand Theft Auto has garnered in recent years to be thoroughly depressing and indicative of the complete collapse and degradation of Western civilization. As a British person I'm deeply embarrassed that it has become one of our biggest cultural exports these days (not that it has anything to do with our culture. It's certainly no culture that I recognise).
Back when our societies were more morally and spiritually healthy, something like Grand Theft Auto would be very niche and largely shunned by the mainstream, rather than being the biggest entertainment property in the West... Its success and glorification by the mainstream is proof of how much the rot really has set in, how lost we are. And the incoming media hype around GTA 6 (and the inevitable wall-to-wall perfect scores they'll give it, as usual) is going to be insufferable.
Now some people might say "Well actually GTA is satirical." Well, it doesn't really matter because a) most GTA players aren't going to understand that. I mean, when I was a teenager, baffled as to why my friends were playing thug-life ghetto trash like GTA: San Andreas, they weren't buying it because they appreciated the satire, they were buying it because they'd been told that it was cool to be into this sort of thing (though I knew that deep-down they weren't), and b) if you're satirising the sickness, you're still acknowledging that the sickness exists, so either way it's not much comfort.
In terms of art and culture, Grand Theft Auto is the sort of ugly, seedy, nihilistic, degenerate filth that you're left with after everything decent, wholesome, honourable, beautiful, sacred and transcendent has been denigrated, deconstructed and destroyed. I guess it's no wonder that it's become so popular in this day and age.

Pokemon is the biggest waste of PCB's, plastic, and developer billable hours in history
I have 0 feeling for it, I have never been able to play one of them for more than 10 minutes cuz they bore me to tears. It's just "collect all the imaginary things," and everything else in the games seems to just serve this one monomaniacal function of them.
Fight me, nerds...now THIS is an unpopular gaming opinion.
@FunGuy
Ahem... 🤨
Even I am a casual gamer for Pokemon franchise, the games are not that bad as you said.
I played Pokemon games, Yokai Watch games, World of Final Fantasy MAXIMA and Nexomon games for the same genre (Monster taming games) and all of them are good enough for me.
@Haywired
Great point. 👍
You explained exactly what I was thinking about those games.
I really hate those adult games.
Disgusting things ever and it shown how disgusting the recent of Western cultures which glorified criminal things as entertainment.
It should never been exist and the developer of those games should be get rid.
I dunno GTA is a pretty weak one to pick as an example of the corruption of today's society since no one is looking at wholesome entertainment from it.
Unlike Mario which promotes living in sin as he's in a relationship with Peach BEFORE getting married to her or Kirby who promotes gluttony or Animal Crossing which spits on our Lord's commandment Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbor's House or Pokemon being a dog fighting simulator or Bayonetta's nudey witchcraft decadence or Zelda having a Swastika dungeon!!!
