Peek-a-boo

Just a few off the top of my head:

Sunshine (although the last ten-fifteen minutes were a bit ho-hum, it is a really intriguing film)
Stranger Than Fiction (who knew that Will Ferrell could play a serious role?)
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Inside Man (I love a good high stakes bank heist film, especially with a starry ensemble)
Goon (I also love a good old underdog story, and Seann William Scott plays his part well)

And last years ‘Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping’ is something I talk to everybody about.

A self aware comedy about the rise to the top in the world of pop, along with ridiculously funny song lyrics and a surprisingly big cast of well known popstars who are seemingly quite happy to take the complete mick out of themselves! I can usually take or leave Adam Samberg, but this is easily the best thing he has done thus far.

@Peek-a-boo Sunshine, like most Danny Boyle movies, got decent reviews when it came out. Up there with 28 Days Later, IMO. An underrated Danny Boyle movie might be The Beach, another one of those films in which people got too hung up about the casting and forgot to enjoy it on its own merits.

Inside Man is a good shout. I also really enjoyed that. Fine twists. And Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - is that one of those films where they rolled the dice on Val Kilmer and got the good one? Think I remember enjoying that, if it's the film I'm thinking of.

@Peek-a-boo I'm glad you brought up the last 10-15 minutes of Sunshine being a bit... disappointing. Up until that point the film was a fantastic visual spectacle and an interesting film (as it should be - it took heavy inspiration from Solaris and Solaris is incredible). I actually have much the same thoughts about 28 Days Later.

Still 2 films that everyone should watch.

My favourite Danny Boyle film is probably Millions.

Away from Danny Boyle I'd suggest Son of Rambow. It's the film that Super 8 desperately wanted to be.

Collateral. It's probably the least famous film Tom Cruise has made and one of the few times he goes out of his comfort zone and did a great job being the antagonist. The film is a crime thriller full of great acting, great shots and an amazing soundtrack. There's a certain scene where Audioslave's "Shadow on the Sun" plays that is simply magnificient.

Vincent (Tom Cruise) is one of my favourite movie characters, along with Ledger's Joker and Bill the Butcher from Gangs of New York (Daniel Day Lewis).

Road to perdition is another great movie that seems to be the least known (or at least mentioned) from Tom Hanks. It did well but I still consider it underrated because of that reason.

@StuTwo I personally wouldn’t descibe the last ten-fifteen minutes of Sunshine as disappointing, more that it had an abrupt genre change that took me by complete surprise, given that the story doesn’t seem to build up to an Event Horizon-esque slasher flick. I found it ho-hum in the respect that it slightly soured everything (brilliant and intriguing) that came beforehand.

It is nice to see another Solaris fan. I find a lot to like about it, and ranks alongside 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner and Alien as my favourite science fiction films. And Millions is my favourite Danny Boyle film too!

Another underrated film, that is.

Son of Rambow is an excellent hidden gem too. It’s very funny, but also surprisingly emotional.

@roy130390 Tom Cruise should go and play more bad roles. Collateral is one of his best films. Only hic-cup is the fact that a taxi driver manages to shoot an assassin without firing a gun in his life, while Vincent somehow misses at the very same (short) distance! I guess they had to end the film at some point...

If you like Collateral, check out Heat by the same director. Has one of the best shoot-out scenes in any film.

I thought Alien Covenant was amazing! - runs and hides.

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

@Peek-a-boo I actually liked that ending, from my perspective Max new chances were slim and you can see his "to hell with this" attitude, resigning to whatever happened. After all, the movie showed how life is full of coincidences and events so improbable we never think they could happen to us. For me, Max standing in one piece against Vincent was like the person that survived falling from more than 60 meters or the person that survived been struck by lightning 7 times.

I definitely agree with you about Tom Cruise playing more bad roles and I'll be checking Heat. Thanks for the recommendation mate!

Pirates 3 is the best one that isn't the first one. I maintain this. Complex side changing story, proper conclusion to a trilogy (despite several anticlimactic moments), less rehashing than 2.

Actually it's a perfect contrast to the 5th one, that I saw recently. Pirates 3 is genuinely good and underappreciated. Pirates 5 actually kinda sucks but I enjoyed it.

@roy130390 @Peek-a-boo My favourite Tom-Cruise-as-bad-guy movie has to be Magnolia - in fact, I reckon it's his best performance full stop. How'd you guys enjoy those nachos?

@Krillin_ I never heard of that movie but I will definitely check it out, thanks!
