Topic: The LEGO Ninjago Discussion Thread

Decided to make this so that anyone who wanted to talk Ninjago (Masters of Spinjitzu, Ninjago 2019-2022, Dragons Rising, etc.) could have a specific thread for it without possibly cluttering up other threads.

Ok, in all seriousness, I figured this being a 12 year long franchise that just wrapped up it’s first season of the second series (Dragons Rising) this felt in order for anyone who wanted to discuss it.

@EaglyBird That’s great to hear!

While I would recommend watching Seasons 8-10 (unless you’re talking about the change from WilFilm to Wildbrain, which in that case 11-15), it’s completely safe to watch Dragons Rising without watching the last few seasons, ignoring the fact that a joke or two will probably go over your head.

While I haven’t watched since either the ghost or pirate seasons ( whichever came last), Ninjago was always one of the most consistent shows out there.

@blindsquarel The seasons you’re talking about are Possession and Skybound respectively. While Skybound is a bit of a controversial season since Jay’s last wish after Nya dies resets the entire seasons events, it’s become more well received over time.

And it’s remained consistent for the most part. Especially when bringing back old concepts from earlier parts of the series (Cole’s mom Lily being the previous Master of Earth, the Overlord returning, more info about the FSM, etc.)

I assume you are talking about Season 8, and if so: you should give it and S9/10 a new chance, season 8 and 9 are probably the peak of ninjago objectively speaking
Season 11 is iffy, but definitely watchable if you get past the abomination of the first few episodes
Season 12 is alright, nothing outstanding
Season 13 is a Cole season, it is great.
The Island Special is neat, nothing special but it is a required prologue to season 14
Season 14 is remarkably amazing
Season 15 is …the worst season of the show by far, but still somewhat enjoyable, and the first 10 episodes are pretty solid ig
Season 16 (DR) is really good, has some flaws like some missing payoffs but overall great

I thought about it some more, and remember watching some of the season with the Omni masks. I think I quit watching because it wasn’t on Netflix at the time.

@blindsquarel Yeah, that’s the start of the Oni Trilogy. Probably the best part of the franchise.

FYI, the whole series is on Netflix now.

Huh, maybe I’ll have to check out what I missed. I’ve been looking for something to watch while I workout, and Ninjago would fit the bill.

how do we feel about the Ninjago Movie?

I personally thought it was mid.

The main character of my entire universe of characters and lore that I’m gonna use in a game franchise I make is literally named “Jay” inspired straight by ninjagos’ “Jay”

@DiamondCore how'd you feel about the redesigns and them putting them in the show?

I should start watching this show. Is there a set order of seasons to watch so I don't get confused by continuity?

Pilots > Seasons 1-6 > Day of the Departed Special > Seasons 8-13 > “The Island” Special > Seasons 14-16+

@Kermit1 I actually kinda like them, it adds a feeling that the show is growing up with you because the ninja look a bit older now (especially Lloyd)
Kai looks better (atleast in the oni trilogy, I don’t know what changed but now I’m indifferent on him), Nya looks better, Jay looks about the same (maybe looks a bit more childish with the freckles, but idk), Lloyd is better, Zane is the same, and Cole is LEAGUES better

It’s cool that ninjago made you realize that! It didn’t really do that for me since I already had seen TV that had genuine character growth beforehand, but I’m glad it did that for you!

Don’t blame ya on being scared of garmadon as a kid, especially the overlord merged with garmadon; that model looks creepy

it was a bit jarring at first but I got used to them.

One reason I'm getting interested is because I learned of a Lego "kitsune" character.

I'm old enough to say that I was NEVER a child when Ninjago first came out though.
