@Tyranexx At times I feel more like I am playing a character from Darkest Dungeon. The other players did not know this, but at one point my character was visited by Strahd and offered the opportunity to join him. This was after five character deaths (2 by a former player, 2 by the other player that started the campaign, and 1 by the replacement player), and the offer was for the power to not lose those I cared about anymore (as my character's arc dealt with him searching for the thing that killed his wife and daughter). Cid turned the offer down at the time, but I expect that another chance to make a deal with the devil will be coming. After all, what is one girl's life when weighed against his friend's lives?

Well another week that my group won't be playing due to scheduls not matching. Hopefully next weekend we can.

Our group hasn't been playing much either. This is just me guessing, but we were on break for awhile last year since our DM was getting hit hard by college courses and work. I wonder if that isn't some of the case as well. Plus another group member has had some medical issues lately (Short version: epilepsy diagnosis), and yet another is apartment hunting.

@Darknyht Noped out of a deal with the undead devil, huh? Can't blame Cid for turning the guy down, though the weight of all these deaths will definitely start adding up the further your group gets in this campaign. Not sure how I'd personally play that hand if it were dealt to me again. It would probably depend in part on my character's alignment. Offhand, I wonder if Strahd didn't actually kill your character's wife and daughter....

@Tyranexx We had a short session last night, but most of it dealt with the reality that we now had two new werewolves in the party and the full moon was two nights away. We ended up splitting the party with the two new werewolves heading towards the possible cure and the remaining party heading to investigate why deliveries were not getting to the city we needed to enter. But we jumped over to Overwatch 2 shortly after that, so the issue of Strahd didn't come back into play.

Hopefully some of those threads will come into play next week.

@Darknyht Not sure if it was wise to split the party up unless your group considers it low risk in the current setting. Though where the two knew werewolves are concerned, I do find it understandable. To be continued it seems. I do wonder if/when you'll get another visit from Strahd.

@Tyranexx @Darknyht So my group was able to get together yesterday after a 2 week hiatus and continue Curse of Strahd.

So while we made it Valaki along with our escort, we decided to get rooms for the night there since it's risky to travel at night in Ravenloft and after our encounter with the needle blights we could use a good night's rest and a day to repair armor and such. We also decided that we needed to get some more information about the Den of the Mother Night more accurately it's possible whereabouts. It was at this time that we met a follow traveler in the taproom of the inn who seems to know alot about the land. Our one player who had to go out for surgery has returned and decided he wanted to join in on this adventure. Since he knows alot about Ravenloft, he decided to create a character who's native to Barovia so that way he didn't have to play dumb when it came to certain things. I think it worked out beautifully and he executed it well.

Anyway upon meeting this stranger we found out that he has knowledge of the Den of Mother Night and has an Idea where it can be located. However we come to find out that children are going missing in town and this stranger suspects it's the work of werewolves and asked our group to assist him in finding the lost children, in exchange for him helping us find the Den of Mother Night. Through the strangers silver tongue he was able to convince the town to pay us for the return of the children as well. Also at this time, we learned that the barkeep is missing a few shipments of ale and has not heard back from the vineyard. After some more negotiation from our newest member the barkkeep has offered free room and board as well as a keg of his finest ale if we look into this matter for him. (At this time I felt like a character in an MMO like WoW running around town going let me go grab this quest and that one lol).

After talking business our group along with its newest member decided to drink the night away playing games of dice. My character suspects that this new party member is a rogue of some sort but not quite sure what kind.

We decided to end our session upon our characters waking the next morning and getting ready to hit the town for repairs and supplies. We are planning to get together again next weekend to continue.

@Tasuki Glad to hear that you were able to get a session in, and it sounds like it was one that focused more on the Role Playing than combat. It's also cool to hear how quickly your session has diverged from what I have experienced, which is the nature of the module and different GMs running it.

Hopefully we will be able to get a session in this week. Last week I had something to do with my kids and the other two players got stuck at work so we missed the week. With any luck though we will figure out what happened with our two infected party members and get back on track to face Strahd.

@Tasuki I keep forgetting you two are now playing the same setting, albeit with different groups. Generally the same area too. Seems like a decent roleplay session all told, and I'm happy to read that the player who was out for surgery appears to be doing well. Will your group check into the werewolves first, or the missing ale?

I should mention I'm getting a kick out of the Curse of Strahd setting. I'm a big fan of the monster side of the horror genre.

@Tyranexx That's the fun in having a different group run the same adventure, no two groups play the same way usually.

As for which job we will take on first, not sure as we haven't discussed it as a group yet. We probably will talk over it in the morning as well go about our business in the town.

As for our player that was out on surgery yep he's doing good as can be now. He's at least able to sit at his computer now without getting overly tired. He still gets tired if he over exerts himself like if he walks to much but that's normal.

@Darknyht Yeah my DM tends to enjoy the RP aspect more then the combat but I am sure we will see our fair share of combat here soon!!! I haven't read any of your posts mainly because I know your quite a ways ahead and I don't want to see any spoilers. Once I get to a point I will probably go back and read your posts to see how your group did key events and such.

I have tried hard to keep it vague, but I understand. We won’t get to play tonight it seems as the DM has something he needs to be at today. Hopefully this extended break will help him be prepared for the final push.

@Darknyht No worries, this is a place to discuss and I know that others my have played it already and post spoilers and such, it can't be avoided. I scan your posts and when you post something that maybe a spoiler I stop and move on. I just didn't want you to think I was ignoring your posts.

@Tasuki I am looking forward to reading what'll happen next. Both sound like interesting leads, though I won't deny that I personally hope your bunch goes for the potential werewolf subplot first.

Glad the post-surgery player is recovering well, even if the process is more gradual than we'd like sometimes. But the important thing is that he's up for playing, and wonderfully at that! I have yet to have a major surgery, but an old knee injury I sustained as a teen will likely require an eventual knee replacement.

@Darknyht Curious to see where your campaign takes your group next as well. Though I fully understand being intentionally vague since you're a bit farther ahead.

@Tyranexx So it does sound like indeed we will be tackling the wolf plot first. This past weekend we geared up, making sure to buy some silver weapons since our recent companion has said that he heard rumors that the wolves of Ravenloft dislike silver. We also got learn some more of the town and how the local official oppresses the populace so take care of him is on my characters list.

Next time we get together we will be heading out of the town. To tackle some of these jobs.

@Tasuki Awesome! Insert aerial fist pump You'll definitely want to be prepared for such potential encounters. As for that official....Sounds like some vigilante justice might be in order. Sounds like another RP session, but a fruitful one. "Tackling some jobs" might put an end to the combat break however.

We are still on hold, seems like each week one of us runs into a conflict due to work or life. Hopefully we will get back to it soon. I have gotten quite a few rounds of Overwatch 2 in with some of our players while we wait for everyone's schedule to calm down.

Just finished a short session that consisted of a battle with undead creatures that took their cues from Monty Python's Black Knight. Our DM went on a lucky streak (or rigged the foundry dice system) and rolled more natural twenties to save a poor zombie's life than I have seen in a single session. I finally had to burn a spell slot to use a branding smite to ensure that stupid thing finally died.

While we had fun at our misadventure, it meant that we only made it through the opening battle of what appears to be an upcoming boss fight. We are slowly progressing towards a ritual that we need to stop. Either way, next session should be interesting.

Not to jinx it, but it looks like our group may have a chance to finally reconvene this weekend. My schedule will only allow for Saturday though, so if that doesn't work for someone else, we might be postponing again.

I really don't bother with Kickstarters but once it's fully released, I will probably get the Core books at least and have a look over them. I am interested in seeing what rules they changed from 5e to their system.

My work week has been nuts, so I just now saw this. I'm not one who bothers with Kickstarters either after getting slightly burned by the single one I have contributed to. This does read like an interesting campaign setting. Love the company name too.

@Darknyht Our Tyranny of Dragons DM had a fairly lucky streak with high rolls during a rather intense battle once. THAT kept us on our toes lol.

@Tyranexx Honestly, it was pretty funny and we took in stride. Our fighter also had a streak of terrible rolls after finding a new powerful weapon, so we kept giving him tips on how to use it. All in all, it was some of the best of what DND means to me.

As for Kickstarters, I don't have that sort of money these days. Maybe once it releases, but I think we probably will be sticking with DND 5e for a while, even when DND One comes out.
