@D-Star92 I usually sketch out the basic framework with a pencil before painting the rest! I haven't tried full mixed-media, though, like colored pencil layering or anything like that. I might just try that out! Oh, and give me a few minutes and I can post some of my work (of I can find the box it got packed in during my move haha)

@CaleBoi25 OK gotcha, that's what I've been thinking, too. Sure, take your time! I'd love to see your work. When I do watercolor, I'm thinking of drawing something simple to get me comfortable.

@D-Star92,

"I think I saw one of your other posts, how are you liking the PS4?"

Took me a while to notice this 🤣, taking a break from the site at the time you posted didn't help. I am enjoying the PS4 quite a lot actually, especially being able to set my own background. I found out a way to use a picture from the system's web browser as my home menu background, so I picked out and edited one. Now I desperately want the Switch 1 / 2 to have a feature like that 🤣. I also like the home menu background music, it's really peaceful (though I already wanted background music for the Switch systems anyway). And I'm enjoying the one game that I've played on the system so far. Ultimately, I love how customizable the menu is. Though my mom doesn't like the computer-like whirring that happens sometimes, especially when the game is running in the background 🤣.

PS5 is taking to the next level with UI like PS4 and the background of the games when you highlight them like PS3.

@Nep-Nep-Freak Glad to hear you're enjoying it. I have played on my cousin's PS4 when I was on vacation one time, we've played Marvel vs. Capcom 3 since that was one of the games he had. Being a Mega Man fan, I had to pick Zero, lol. I did try out God of War as well, but I didn't quite get into it. I'd love to at least have themes for the Switch 1/2. I would pick a Mario theme without hesitation, haha.

Me and one of my younger sisters were having a conversation about everyone gathering for together school (I'm homeschooled, by the way). I used the word "assemble" and she shouted "Autobots, assemble!", and I was like "Perhaps you mean 'Avengers, assemble!'. I was laughing like a maniac 🤣.

@D-Star92 Yes, PaRappa was challenging for me since I’m used to playing rhythm games that use tap controls, but it was so rewarding finishing it, though I still have Lammy and the sequel to finish at some point. I only played a demo for that one Rhythm Heaven game on the 3DS, but it was fun! I’m curious about the next game, I’ve been a bit interested in it since a lot of people praise it and say it’s one of the best rhythm games out there.

Yes, I find all art styles appealing, I don’t hate any, just sometimes prefer one over the other. I really feel like a simple art style would fit me best since I don’t really have time to draw anymore.

Oh yeah, Super Nintendo World! I haven’t heard a lot of people talk about it but I always see videos and posts on here talking about it. It looks really big and whimsical, but it’s been a while since I last went to a theme park. I never went on a rollercoaster, but I’m sorry about that experience you had when you were younger. I never really like rides that are from big heights, also because I hear about accidents and mishaps that happen with rides like that. I can handle rides on the ground and some heights but not rides that are at a such a high height.

I just play mobile games or older games, since those tend to be shorter and can be completed in a few days or hours, it’s why I usually lean toward Rare’s N64 and Xbox 360 games since they don’t take long to complete. I really prefer not playing big games either, plus they eat up a lot of my space on my devices, especially on mobile. Genshin wasn’t bad and I did kind of like it, but I disliked the gacha and this stupid rank or level thing that had be do a bunch of tasks in order to have me progress through the story.

Yeah, you can kind of say Deadeye Derby is sort of pay-to-win because a lot of the stronger upgrades and slingshots require a lot of diamonds that can be quickly achieved by buying them, but the game can still be completed without microtransactions, albeit you’ll be struggling a lot against bosses and opponents. The game is pretty short and the third boss is the second to last, but after fumbling the battle so bad despite the upgrades I have, I don’t feel like playing it for a while. I was considering even purchasing one of the game’s premium characters to make it easy, but I don’t feel like spending money on it at all despite how much I like HTF. Again, it’s still possible to complete the game without buying stuff, but I can’t stand the requirements for upgrades and the matchmaking not pairing me with players that have the same upgrades or are on the same level as me. It’s so annoying getting pitted against players who have full upgrades and use stronger characters, especially Flaky and Nutty, who ABSOLUTELY tick me off whenever I play against them. I have heard of that game, but I never knew they had microtransactions in there at launch and didn’t make most people aware of it? That’s very sneaky…

I never finished GoldenEye, but from what I experienced, PD controls very similarly to it. In fact, PD had almost the same development team and was intentionally developed as a spiritual successor after Rare failed to get the rights to make a sequel to GoldenEye, so there will be similarities to it while you play. I hope you like it!

@Pastellioli Yeah, I do remember they're making a new Rhythm Heaven game for the Switch. I think I want to play more of the other games I have first though, or wait until it goes on sale. On the simple art style, gotcha. Yeah, I do get busy a lot of the time too, lol.

It does look like a cool park for sure. Thanks... I've rode a coaster before and I absolutely hated it. They go really fast, which did take me by surprise when I was little. I'm really sensitive to speed, too. I would get really scared if whatever I'm riding goes too fast. And yeah, I don't like heights, either. I can handle some speed and heights, but anything that's too high and/or too fast, I don't want to go on. I love merry-go-rounds, though... oh my goodness, they're so much fun! They go at a reasonable speed, too. Not too fast, but fast enough to make things exciting. I love train rides, too. They're fun and relaxing! I basically like any ride that is along the lines of the last two rides I mentioned. I did get a bit sappy there, lol. I'm a kid at heart... and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I think SNW has that Yoshi ride... if I recall correctly, that one wouldn't be too bad for me.

These days, I mostly play on my Switch or Switch 2. I tend to gravitate towards stuff like platformers, and even stuff like Tetris. If I'm feeling indecisive on what I want to play, that's an easy option for me right there, lol. Been playing Tetris DX on the Switch's Game Boy app. Recently I finished Luigi's Mansion, that game is pretty short, which is perfectly fine of course... I still liked it.

Ouch. That game does sound like a pain to play with how it's designed. CTR: Nitro-Fueled didn't have microtransactions at launch actually, they were added later on. I remember that game got great reviews right when it came out... then Activision just could not help themselves. It was sneaky for sure. It's a very good game, I have it for the Switch, but those post-launch microtransactions... ugh. At least they're easy to ignore for me so I can play and unlock stuff the old-fashioned way.

Thanks! I hope so too. I'm not an expert in shooters but I'll see how I fare. I keep putting it off though, been playing other games on my Switch 2.

@D-Star92 I’m still surprised they didn’t mention the new Rhythm Heaven in the September Direct, but I assume they might talk about it if they don’t skip a February Direct next year. Yes, I still want to use some detail, but I just think a more detailed art style isn’t feasible for me right now. I’ve heard some artists say they had to simplify their style to make it easier with their time schedules!

I think I have gone on merry-go-rounds before but it’s been a long time since! In fact, it’s been a while since I last went on a ride at all, but I still remember rides being super fun. Yeah, I also forgot roller coasters are fast, I haven’t really gone on any fast rides before, but I can’t imagine how strange and kind of scary it would feel going on a ride set at a speed I’m not used to.

Yes, I find a lot of platformer games are balanced well in terms of length, especially older ones, so I like those a lot. Playing a lot of oldies? That’s good to hear! Nothing beats older games, I never tried the original Luigi’s Mansion, but I have played Dark Moon on the 3DS before and I really liked it from what I remember. Now that I’m thinking about it, I never really tried out the Game Boy titles on the Switch. I spent most of my time playing SNES and N64 games when I used to have the Expansion Pack.

Microtransactions and grinding soured the experience later on…got sick of upgrades being locked behind a high amount of diamonds and matched with players who finished the game and had all upgrades. All characters have unique perks, but the first few have weaker abilities. It’s the final two base game characters and all three premium characters who have stronger abilities…and I have none of them. You get diamonds through defeating each boss and achievements, but it’s so little, I think around 1-2 diamonds, which isn’t enough for later upgrades and purchasing premium characters. It was easy for the first two bosses, but the third was awful since he keeps moving from front to back and has two extremely annoying gimmicks, but it probably isn’t as bad as the final boss, who, from what I saw in a video, flings rocks in rapid succession, throws bombs in-between shots and jumps on the screen to stab the player. Despite all that, it has fun gameplay and I find it interesting how they incorporated gyro controls, but microtransactions and match-ups ruin it. Oh, so it was fine at first and didn’t have microtransactions but they added them later? That does sound super sneaky, but at least it’s good to hear it doesn’t get in the way of playing compared to that HTF game…

I see, I can imagine how much fun the Switch 2 is! Just choose to play it when you feel like it.

@Mariotag late response again.

Yeah I don’t really check NL daily a lot anymore. Kinda have nothing significant to say or contribute or any good topic starters but oh well. I haven’t been playing any Nintendo games for a good while actually.

Wish this thread was more active, but I also don’t really have anything significant to say! Also, I reread a couple of my old responses to other threads and gosh, I kind of did not realize how cringy and so strange they were. I kind of dislike the songs I commented on that music thread…

@Mariotag It’s been too long so I can’t remember what the topic was. I really don’t know any other interesting topics for this thread actually…

Nice to have someone to chat with, even if aimless.

I genuinely don't have much conversation here otherwise. Gimme a bit.

@Pastellioli I've really fallen out of commenting here ever since it started being more "essay-like" in nature. That's fine for plenty of folks, but when I joined it was a lot more snappy and spontaneous - sort of like IRL convos haha! Even my message here would be considered long!

Talk about phone gaming:

Yeah. Sideways is nice. I still can't imagine playing console games with naught but touch controls though.

Talk about now former friend who chose mute and block over a trivial resolution, potentially having moved out of state just to avoid trying to talk with me...:

I'm actually pretty angry with him. Yeah, I'll never know. On top of which, the mutual we shared is now visibly anxious around me, I pretty much wrote my remaining time to play TriForce Heroes down to playing with him, and he was the last available person I could just go visit and play games with in my area. It's had a chain effect that's undeniable, and I'm angry that he valued my friendship so little, and caused damage on top of that, though I feel I've no right to be angry. Btw, slightly less than ten years.

Talk of Xbox One Repair:
I barely saved my console apparently. HDD was going bad.

Hollow Knight talk (have finished the game since):
Hollow Knight is brutal. The 42 bosses are one of the ultimate challenges. I need to finish it for a trophy, and missable ending. I'm working on games steadily.

(Yes, I got competent internet, and if I can relearn the characters you spoke of, might be able to play them)
Might get better internet soon.

(Added to this...)

Forgot, but this is a meme in a discord chat lol.

"Long-term effects from use of the block button include severe damage to the heart, liver and kidneys. Users are more likely to have infectious diseases. Continued daily use causes sleep deprivation and loss of appetite, resulting in malnutrition. The block button also can cause aggressive and paranoid behavior." -Michael

Ig this sums up what we were talking about then?
Needs to be trimmed down again, but it's last I recall.
