@MarioLover92 Figured I'd briefly mention that I finally booted up my backlogged copy of Super Mario 3D All-Stars and have started playing through Super Mario 64 again. Won't be 100%ing it or anything, but it's nice to revisit it despite me not thinking it has aged the best in some areas. I only first played it on the Wii U VC a few years ago.
@SlashFuture I used to play harder modes in games and still do on rare occasion. It's mainly a time thing anymore. The tradeoff of being an adult is that while I can now afford games, I don't have nearly the amount of time to play them that I'd like thanks to work, occasional volunteer obligations, house/property upkeep, paying bills, adulting in general....
@WaffleBoat In that case, I likely will pick up Hollow Knight on sale at some point and at least try it out. If it were the only game I had to play, I'd certainly spend time grinding and trying to "get gud". However, impressions I've heard/read seem to indicate that it'll at least tread my line between "challenging, but worth it" and "Good grief this game with cheap enemy/hazard placement wants me to pull my hair out and send my controller flying". Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope definitely touched that line. Most of the stages were fine and felt fair, but I nearly dropped the game during Tinker Knight's stage. The game is nice enough to allow you to pick up your lost loot if you die, which is all well and good unless the last death happened to be over an impossible to navigate pit....
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika I should clarify that Darm Tower is the same each time when scaling it in Ys Origin, but the gameplay and ways to tackle it vary per character. Not to mention some plot beats and bosses change a bit, especially with the third/canon route. I did the first two routes back to back, took a short break from the game, then went back and tackled route 3.
For my next long JRPG, I'm leaning towards Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past on 3DS. I've been itching to play another DQ game. While I also have XI S on Switch backlogged - which is supposedly better - I'd kinda like to clear out more of my hibernating 3DS JRPGs. 3DS was my de facto RPG machine until I finally picked up a Switch. Now they regularly trade places for that title. XD
@Sunsy I've seen memes about Dollar General that basically suggest that it's the new McDonald's or Subway in the retail space; they're just about everywhere lol. I've occasionally found interesting nuggets in them, heck I even bought a replacement "dumb" phone (old Motorola) from them that served me well over two years before I got my first proper job and, eventually, a smart phone in my early 20s.
@SlashFuture Granted, I don't dumb down settings to where I can faceroll through things lol. It's more of "Hey, is this a reasonable difficulty? Am I extending my playthrough by opting for a harder option?" Questions like that.
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika Probably to some extent, I was thinking about doing something like that. Why on earth did they make it so that you can't level down at rest spots?
Currently playing: Metal Gear Solid
Back burner: Hollow Knight, Undertale
I played Pokemon Violet for 2 hours and I saw ridiculous awful 3D rendering from far distance, it was like early PS3 games. All the people movement looked 5 fps from far distance but became 30 fps when get very close to you. Even with the patches last time, the graphic level on Pokemon Scarlet / Violet was still disgusting, I thought Pokemon Sword / Shield have waaaaay.... better 3D rendering.
Don't you think so ?
@SlashFuture
I always play on the easiest mode as possible since I mostly played the games casually except for DDR I can play until the hardest level as I can.
Btw, have you seen my real face from the post 2 pages before ?

Glad I didn't experienced with awful glitches like you have ever watched from YouTube since I played Pokemon Violet alone but the graphic rendering for environments was ridiculous awful, like early PS2 games with low polygon from far distance. I wonder what engine did Gamefreaks used for Pokemon Scarlet / Violet that looked awful in rendering the 3D environments, I don't think it was Unity engine.
If I compared Pokemon Scarlet / Violet with Yokai Watch 4++ (even with Switch version), Yokai Watch 4++ still looked waaaaay much better in rendering the 3D environments and it made Level-5 looked way more professional than Gamefreaks. I'm sure the number of employees in Level-5 office way fewer than Gamefreaks employees but I could see which have more passion in making their games.
@Anti-Matter I think the reason why it looks so bad is because it’s an open-world game. Arceus and Sword/Shield had expansive open-zones, yet it still looked decent. I think Game Freak just needs to find their footing on these types of games. If the next Pokémon game is open-world, it might look better. Only time will tell.

I was curious what kind of game engines usually developer used.
Every engines have their benefit and disadvantage, depend for what kind of games.
I oftenly see games with Unity engine looked fairly nice in cartoon design but some developers have tendency to make it like cheap mobile games with Unity engine.
I have ever played Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles with Unity engine and it has beautiful 3D environments rendering for an open world style game. Unity engine can be pushed the limit for open world style game.
With Unreal engine, it was look as good as Spyro Reignited, great lighting, pretty good for 3D platformer games with large area, I think the same engine that used for Kingdom Hearts 3.
I have ever played World of Final Fantasy Maxima with Orochi engine, it was pretty weak engine in my opinion as the artist just cheap out the trees rendering like 2D trees with pseudo 3D looking.
