@Maxenmus
No need to worry, it wasn't you.
I honestly didn't read your comments on Soul Hackers.
This chit-chat and the general Nintendo Switch threads I only read diagonally to see if someone's talking about topics that interest me. I only have so much time. 😘
@seaboyluca lol Got it. Don't mind my really lengthy ramble defending my viewpoint. I'm insecure and paranoid like that. It's an issue I'm still trying to manage.
I kinda do that too, reading diagonally to see if there are topics that interest me. There are quite a number of new topics that pop up every morning I wake up, so I just kinda skim through them all.
I'm hardly surprised Digimon Survive got a lot of negative backlash on its Steam discussion page. People there have hated visual novels since day 1, and this game being a visual novel probably attracted those vocal haters like flies. "This game is trash because it's a visual novel; how dare they charge so much money for a visual novel? They should just release it at $10 or even for free." Yeah, try buying visual novels for $10 in Japan. You know, the country where visual novels came from? Where a large majority of visual novels are still being produced to popular reception? They release those things at $80-$100 per game and their market still soared regardless of the exorbitant price. So clearly, there's a market for visual novels; you're just not part of that market.
I'm so glad I didn't buy this game on Steam and bought it on Switch instead. Why should I support a platform that hates a favorite medium of mine with such venom? Forget it. I'm browsing through the Steam discussion page, hoping to have a fun time discussing this game with Digimon fans, and I find myself getting dragged into toxic arguments about how terrible this game is compared to Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I don't care about XB3. I'm not there to talk about XB3. I'm there to talk about Digimon, and how the game has satisfied me as a fan. It doesn't make sense to compare a visual novel like Digimon Survive to a AAA RPG like XB3. It's like comparing Super Mario to Doom; apples and oranges, people.
Am I blind to the faults of the game? No. But that's not the argument being made here by those people. The argument is that because this is a visual novel, it's probably made with low effort and doesn't deserve such a high price. These are the kinds of people who have probably never read that many visual novels, let alone good ones, and are ignorant of the kind of effort it takes to write a full length visual novel that can last up to 50-100 hours, if not more, not to mention all the many CG art those artists had to draw. As someone who has played visual novels and deeply love the medium, I can see why the Japanese paid so much for those games. They're well-made, and they don't deserve the kind of insult these people hurl at them.
Also, it's just dumb IMO to go into a Digimon game made for fans of the Digimon anime and complain about tropes and storylines that were made for Digimon fans. It's like me whining about how Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures was a lousy platformer compared to Mario, or call out how Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a lousy action game compared to Battlefield, or whining about how Shredder's Revenge isn't as good as other arcade games. Shredder's Revenge was clearly made for TMNT fans, just like how Digimon Survive was made for Digimon Adventure fans. It's so toxic to go trash something made for a fandom like that.
I was looking to have fun with this game, but maybe I should've been born in Japan where this game might've received a better reception instead of this... venom, and I could've discussed this with people who actually see the merits of this game instead of just blindly attacking it because it's a "visual novel."
@Kermit1
Yes, that game is hollow knight for me. It is an amazing game, but for me it is just to difficult and directionless. Luckily it is only 15$ so it wasn’t a huge blow.

I think Bandai really screwed up the marketing for Digimon Survive. So many comments on YouTube where people had to reply, "It's a visual novel, which is why there's not a lot of gameplay." "It's a visual novel." "It's a visual novel." Bandai's trailers clearly misinformed the audience, and as a Digimon fan who loves this game, I fear that this game will tank because Bandai literally set it up to fail. Not only misinforming the audience with poor marketing, but also releasing it alongside Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Does someone working on Bandai hate Digimon? Because it feels like that's the case.
I just tried XCOM for the first time. So far it's good, my kind of sci-fi stuff. Going to tag @Snatcher as he mentioned this one awhile back.
@MarioLover92 Yeah, I always had just as much exposure to Sonic thanks to my brother owning the Genesis and me having a Game Gear. I had a few VHS tapes of SatAM, IIRC I got it as a Valentine's Day gift along with a Sonic shirt from mom when I was a kid (which shows that tradition goes way back, never was big on candy).
My memory isn't the greatest, but I do have Get Back Up Again from Trolls memorized at least, love that song. Yeah, most Fast Play Disney DVDs usually do loop. All you do is just leave the movie to do its thing at the Fast Play screen, it will play some previews, then the movie, then a few extras, and loop. I just want to say some of the Sofia the First DVDs stop, which is odd because Disney Fast Play usually loops.
Cool, will give it a watch sometime. Thanks. I do remember my Mac (which looks similar to that one) had "PC Exchange" but all it did was load up Windows documents on Mac programs. Mine didn't have the DOS compatibility stuff. I think there was an emulator called Virtual PC for Mac, but you needed to have DOS software in order to use it. Been so long.
@seaboyluca You're not the only one. I remember seeing a video a few years back about a movie YouTuber talking about Universal movies skipping theaters, and he basically shugged off Trolls World Tour as "I heard it was bad, but I never seen it." Then he proceeded to rant about how theaters should be only for MCU stuff, Star Wars, and action blockbuster movies, but the family stuff, like Trolls, should be at home where the family could gather. Basically gatekeeping theaters.
Seeing Frozen II, Inside Out, Zootopia, and even Trolls World Tour (funnily enough since this is the movie that started this) are still some of the best theater experiences I've had. Theaters are for everyone, not just one kind of moviegoer or one kind of movie.
Now I'm just rambling on, back to judging stuff beforehand. Similarly, at an old gaming forum, I can't count how many times people told me I'm playing a bad game, only to not have an answer when confronted about actually playing it. It was tiring dealing with these people. Sometimes I wonder how they would react if MetaCritic or review scores weren't a thing.
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
Don’t you hate it when somebody volunteers you to do something when you aren’t there, and then they get mad at you when you aren’t jumping out of your seat to go do said thing.

@TheJGG Enjoy your time in nature! Based off of how much time you've allegedly put into Xenoblade Chronicles 3, not to mention your family's reaction, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the game must be VERY good. My copy is still slated for Monday. What's maddening is that it's currently sitting in my local UPS hub.... :grimace:
@MarioLover92 I didn't know Smash Bros. even existed until my high school years; I had some gaming exposure as a kid, but I usually only gravitated towards anime or cartoon tie-ins or quality games I'd already been exposed to, like Super Mario Bros and the Donkey Kong Country games. I learned the hard way that licensed games can be quite a mixed bag, though I thankfully was only exposed to a small handful of true stinkers. (I will never understand my sister's obsession with anything Hannah Montana related....She had so much DS shovelware....). Battles...levels...pretty similar to me where Smash is involved.
It'll be interesting to experience some of the Wave 2 courses vicariously through those with the DLC lol. I've decided I'll dive in and out of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe once in awhile, either with folks from here or just online in general. I actually finished up Metroid Dread earlier than I thought a little bit ago, so I played MK8D online for about half an hour before exercising.
@Maxenmus Sometimes we all need a break from the internet. It can be a wonderful place, but also a very volatile one. At the end of the day, like almost anything, it's a neutral tool that has the ability to help or harm. I do agree that Digimon Survive could've been marketed better; that could be do in part to its troubled development cycle. If it's any consolation, I'm aware that it's a mixture of a VN and a strategy RPG, both of which I like. It'll be quite a while before I get to the game however. As an aside, I have read that some Steam users are having issue with the game, but they can be fixed by uninstalling some K-Lite file or something.
@Kermit1
Yes, that game is hollow knight for me. It is an amazing game, but for me it is just to difficult and directionless. Luckily it is only 15$ so it wasn’t a huge blow.
same, I also got hollow knight for $15. I'd like to play it but my brain breaks whenever I try to play it.
If it's any consolation, I'm aware that it's a mixture of a VN and a strategy RPG, both of which I like. It'll be quite a while before I get to the game however.
Yeah, it's of consolation. I'm glad that you're interested in the game. Honestly, all I want is just to discuss this game with people who like it, trying to get into conversations and stuff. Digimon fans aren't exactly abundant in our Pokémon-dominated world (let alone visual novel Digimon fans, two of the most niched fandoms in history). Just saying. 😆
@Sunsy
I don't play xcom since I knew that's rated M games but I played Transformers Battleground on PS4 more confident than Mario + Rabbids.
Maybe Transformers Battleground have been set in episodic mission than manual exploration in Mario + Rabbids, for me it was pretty quick to continue the gameplay after one mission finished. But, I don't play the game as intense as Youtubers Life 2 since Tactic games felt less interesting than games with genre like Harvest Moon style so I tend to play Tactic games every 1 - 2 mission since one mission can take quite long time to finish and in my mind, finishing one mission with duration between 20 - 30 minutes already felt long and my brain already felt enough to play until 1 - 2 mission.
Fun fact, I still haven't finished my Mario + Rabbids since I bought the team in year 2017. 😅
Also, I oftenly forget to find the right time to buy Final Fantasy Tactics PSP version as other games are still more important to get first than the PSP games.
The last time I played FF Tactics on PS1 in year 2005. It has been long time I didn't play FF Tactics again. I also consider FF Tactics A2 on NDS but again, still have difficulty to find the right time to buy that game as FF Tactics A2 was easily get sold on my local online shopping website and some seller still have the game but with quite expensive price (more than $70) considering FF Tactics A2 was one of most wanted NDS games.
Say, I heard you have tried some never before played games to expand your gaming experience. Just keep going. 👍
Btw, if you ready enough to play Harvest Moon style games, you can try Story of Seasons: Pioneer of Olive Town on Steam since you play Steam games and Steam version have better performance than Switch version (I will pick the PS4 version since the game is already available now) or you can try Youtubers Life 2 as I still play that game almost everyday since I got the game two weeks ago.
@Tyranexx
I played Hannah Montana games too. 😆
On PS3, PSP and NDS.
I have finished the PS3 and PSP version despite I already know they are mediocre games but at least they are still playable and easy enough to play.
I still haven't touched my two Hannah Montana games on NDS since i bought them 8 months ago, maybe I still haven't have the hype to continue the games but I will make sure to play them to show my responsibility to take care my purchased games.
Also, it's sad to see Miley Cyrus gone wild and controversial after she grown up.
To see Miley Cyrus as innocent teenage girl in Hannah Montana to become badass woman in her singing career (not to mention her controversial video clips like Wrecking Ball and her attitudes), I felt really disappointed.
I personally don't like the transformation from her angelic voice in Hannah Montana to raspy voice in her current singing career.
It was like she was no longer the same person that used to know.
@Maxenmus if there is anything worse than the Steam reviews, it’s the YouTube comment section. There are many examples of games I love but the online community seems to hate. It’s a shame when people just jump on the bandwagon too without really experiencing the game.
@Anti-Matter sad to say Miley Cyrus was always kinda screwed messed up because of Disney and contracts and some other stuff. It's sad to see how Disney really wants people to stay with them after they're kids, they'll do anything to make you stay even if it means they'll be messed up later down the road.
I'm not going to use heavy details mainly because I don't want to disturb anyone here.
@Snatcher Noted then. I did the first few missions, the tutorial one and the first real mission, and completed it well. Playing on easy as I'm new to turn-based strategy games.
@Anti-Matter Fair enough, family friendly games are more your thing. I had XCOM from a freebie Steam gave away years ago, trying Mario+Rabbids made me curious since it plays similarly (and I have a computer that can run the game now too).
I didn't know FF Tatics was on PSP, I remember a friend played it on GBA. I remember that release because he played it almost regularly, sometimes we'd linked up for multiplayer games. Mostly stuff like Zelda Four Swords, Sonic Advance, Kirby Nightmare In Dreamland.
That I do, if a game sparks interest, I like to look into it more and eventually try it. Only if it interests me and has me curious.
I want to review about Youtubers Life 2 as I have played the game intensively almost everyday.
The game have gameplay very similar as Harvest Moon style, unlike the first game.
You will get offered to choose your apartment location on three different locations before you start. It was very similar as Harvest Moon Magical Melody when you start the game, you will be offered by three different locations. Each locations have their benefits depend on which places will be your main priority to visit oftenly to accomplish the given missions.
In Youtubers Life 2, the three locations of your apartment were at Downtown (recommended), Port and Uptown.
Downtown area have the most important places to visit to accomplish the mission quickly as there are Player 1 (video games shop), AFK Bar (bar + esport place), Spicy Ren restaurant, Leet Point (computer shop), Boxing Gym (to increase your stamina point), Kiwi boutique (selling casual outfits), Geektopia (Comic, board games, figurines and cosplay shop), Play Con Hall (Games event like E3, only open during 7 - 25 Spring).
Uptown area was like elite places where you can find Gianni (expensive outfits), Er-Tech (Drone shop + Secret Lab to finish the storyline), Galaxy Disco (Bar + Discotheque, you can request Inoxtag music to be played after finishing Youtuber Inoxtag mission), Retro World (retro games shop, only open on Friday to Sunday), City Hall (to get permit to use scooter, expand your apartment size, make duplicate keys for your partner / spouse, divorced your spouse), Theater (pretty much useless, only for watching the award of Best Youtubers every end of seasons), Oscar Cinema (selling snacks only, no watching movies inside unfortunately), Althea Restaurant (premium restaurant with VIP seat).
Port area has surfing theme places such as Slater Surf (sporty outfits and sporty stuffs), The Kraken (seafood restaurant), Lafayette salon (to get other hairstyles and makeover), Agora Treasure shop (pirate themed souvenirs), Calypso Beach Bar (beach bar, selling snacks and drinks), TAG Agency (your manager Xavier place), The Fisherman (to buy fishing rod and fishing box), Elite Fitness Club (beach gym + swimming pool + cafe, need Silver rank Youtuber to enter the place and must subscribe 10K annually), Dock 54 (discotheque on yacht, only open on first weekend, need Gold rank Youtuber to enter the place)
Talking about the peoples you can meet and interact, the bachelors / bachelorettes have 7 hearts level, normal peoples have 5 heart level. Some exception was like Xavier (only 3 hearts level and already 3 hearts since beginning), Agora and Grace (no heart level). The way you interact with peoples in Youtubers Life 2 was pretty same as Harvest Moon games. Talk to them every day to increase their heart level, you can give them items as present and they have their likes & dislike items, you can take photo with them and upload to Instalife to increase their heart level. They are also have some heart event request to fulfill before you can proceed to next heart level, pretty much same as Harvest Moon heart event. For bachelors / bachelorettes, you can try to flirt them with three different options of compliments as they are in 5 hearts. You can even kiss them at 6 hearts level. And yes, you can have same gender marriage in this game, WooHoo! 😃
I personally prefer hunting the dudes than the girls so I still played as boy character and try to flirt the bachelors. The bachelors I like to interact with them are Robin (AFK Bar owner with boys next door face. He has very similar looking as Rock from Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life with baby face looking and blonde hair), Aaron (he is a number 1 Youtuber in the game and also my rival, but he is very nice dude), Edgar (the nerd with wimpy body and thick glasses, the owner of Geektopia), Adam (Leet Point PC shop owner), DJ FOX (a DJ with Fox mascot head. Later he will reveal his real face as you befriend with him), Zane (half shirtless tattooed dude who is also a Kraken according to his confession). But my Top 3 Bachelors are Robin, Aaron and Edgar.
And I have ever kissed them
(I kissed a boy, I like it....) (Katy Perry) 😆
To get married in this game, your spouse need at least 5 or 6 hearts, buy the engagement ring to propose your lover and already expand your apartment to have enough space for your spouse to live together and give your spouse with duplicate key before getting married so they will stay in your house and their status will changed from Single to Married.
Make sure you are free on the day you will get married as soon you propose your lover to get married, immediately you will be in wedding reception with your lover and Mayoress will ask both of you and your spouse to agree to live together as couple. And you will kiss your spouse after that. Wedding ceremony will skip the whole day and the game will be saved immediately after you get married so think carefully before proceed. As you can see the game is already very same as Harvest Moon games. The Mayor, the bachelors / bachelorettes, heart events, the marriage, house expansion and upgrade, etc.
Talking about the gameplay, Youtubers Life 2 have similarity with Harvest Moon games. Instead of farming (It's Youtubers Life, duh. Not Farming Life) your job is playing video games, uploading your recorded videos to NewTube, do video recording / interview / unboxing / live streaming, taking photo to Instalife, do exercise to increase your stamina level, befriending the peoples to continue the storyline, getting married (optional). Everyday have different trends to be captured for your uploaded videos / photos on Instalife and they have different color codes to tell how popular those trends on that day. Maroon Red = the most popular things, Yellow = very popular things, Magenta = quite popular things, Blue = Common things, Green = less popular things, Grey = not a popular things. The trends of each day will determine how many subscribers will like your post. The more subscribers you get, the more money you will get. Also, capturing the trends is required to continue the storyline as you need to befriend with Aaron to get NT codes from him by uploading a video with capturing two Red Maroon trends. Also, you need to befriend with Ziggy to get NT codes from him by taking a picture of random peoples with hashtag bubble speech in your place and upload the photos to Instalife. The random peoples with hashtag bubble speech appeared randomly each day as they are the part of trends of the day.
Well, that's the review I can type on this website.
Tag my name if you have curiosity with Youtubers Life 2.
@Kermit1
1. You will see the characters from above, pretty much like Harvest Moon games in 3D environments. You cannot rotate the camera angle though. In Youtubers Life 2, the locations you can visit only 3 areas: Downtown, Uptown and Port. Each areas have subway tunnel so you can quickly travel to other areas without wasting the time as in Youtubers Life2, the time is divided into 15 minutes. Every 15 minutes in game take several seconds in real life, pretty much same as Harvest Moon games.
2. There is a character customization in the game before you start. Hairstyle, outfits, tattoos, accessories, etc can be changed anytime but your color skin, your gender, eyes shape, eyes color, mouth shape, your name cannot be changed once you confirmed so think carefully before customize your character.
3. So far, I rate Youtubers Life 2 as 8/10 as I can play as a boy to get married with the dudes (something that I really dream about), gameplay have similarity as Harvest Moon games, unique gameplay to play as Youtuber with interesting activities from playing video games, taking photos to Instalife, attending Play Con event, do live streaming / interview, etc.
