I just got back from watching Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in theaters. It was fun and entertaining at points, but the first film is still the best of the bunch IMO. I'd rank it slightly above _Crimes of Grindelwald* even though I'm one of the minority who did like that film due to all the character building.

@Snatcher No prob! I like the new tags too, though they're clearly a work in progress. XD

@MarioLover92 Yep, I'd go ahead and give Curious Village another shot when you get the chance. Its story is pretty much self-contained, plus it's the first Layton release; you won't have anything spoiled. Not to mention that, plot-wise, it's the most down-to-earth. I actually only recall one of the games advertised: Day Dreamin' Davey, which is apparently an obscure mediocre title lol. I had mostly Pokemon GB/C games, but I did have an odd assortment of other games, some of them licensed shovelware. My siblings and I shared a few. My GBA SP went more places since it was more compact, but my OG DS saw plenty of travel too before its slow demise. The DS Lite I replaced it with is currently in my possession; its my travel unit of choice if I'm flying since I consider it the most expendable device I have.

@BruceCM Yep, though I'm told that one is more episodic than earlier titles, and some seem to think the puzzles are weaker. I haven't played it yet, so I can't confirm or deny those claims.

@Sunsy Thanks! The spoiler did work for me, though I was on my laptop at the time. They're definitely less functional on mobile lol.

Got some 3DS games today, The Legend of Dark Witch 3, Pokemon Yellow, and Balloon Kid. Used an eShop card I had trying to get some games before the 3DS eShop shuts down. It will be nice to save again in Pokemon Yellow.

@MarioLover92 Yup, I was very surprised to see Cruis'n. Last time I played Cruis'n before Christmas was in a bowling alley arcade twenty years ago.

That's good to hear then. Didn't know it had some updates, I still remember trying the beta for it they did years ago, which gave me a Mario outfit IIRC.

Yeah, as mentioned before, I have a few CDs for special reasons, beyond that most of my music is digital or on Spotify. Funnily enough, I still backup by GOG games to CD-Rs. Something nostalgic having classic games on a CD. Though all my GOG games do sit on a USB stick.

@Tyranexx Glad it worked because all it did was cover one line, and still exposed some of the text in some posts I've seen.

@WoomyNNYes Weird, it worked for you. I'm guessing @antdickens fixed it?

I
don't think you
have.

Has more to do with the grey SPOILER text not lining up with the small spoiler box

@Sunsy My bad. I didn't type full lines in my spoiler. When I type full lines of text, then the spoiler bar fails to cover multiple lines of text.

here's a game description for There Will Be No Turkey This Christmas
On Christmas Eve, a small turkey manages to get inside a barrel, hiding from the Silva family that intended to roast it. Now disguised, it begins a saga of running, hiding, and running a little further in search of freedom.

@WoomyNNYes I don't know what amuses me more, the fact that's an actual game (not in a bad way), or you're having the same problem I'm having with spoilers now. Interesting, I'm guessing you type them differently. I tend to use tags as I type. Goes with any tags really.

@WoomyNNYes Oh, it's coming to Switch. Actually just found the Steam version. It does look good, most of the Steam user reviews have been positive taking a quick glance at the page.

@Tyranexx LOL you should have heard what happened to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It got banned in several Middle Eastern countries because America Chavez mentions her two mothers. So I won’t be able to see it! Some people I know are frustrated, others indifferent, but… shame.

Having said that I’m surprised Fantastic Beasts didn’t get pulled too considering Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s relationship. Again, it is what it is. Glad you enjoyed it though, that’s the important thing. (I’d honestly compare the Fantastic Beasts series to The Hobbit. Good for mega die hard fans but ultimately somewhat unnecessary. I’d say FB is more like this than The Hobbit because the latter was the original story before LotR)

Working on a reply to your larger post. Stay tuned!

@Sunsy I rewatched the trailer for There Will Be No Turkey This Christmas, and the game looks less good to me now than I had previously thought, and I deleted the topic. Something looks off about it.

You do plan to play it, though, @Tyranexx ...? Heard vaguely good things about it but hardly know much, just it being the series coming to Switch was a pretty big thing

@Tyranexx I'll try to remember to give it another shot, then! I do remember liking the story and plot, too. I'd love to get more into the Layton games, I don't think the series came out on anything besides the DS and 3DS. Considering that it may be hard to get authentic DS games and that the 3DS eShop is closing next year, it'd be awesome to see the series get remade for the Switch and other platforms.

I've heard of Day Dreamin' Davey, I remember that the AVGN did a review on it. That game was actually made by HAL Laboratory, believe it or not - it was probably made before they made Kirby.

Yeah totally, the GBA SP is quite compact for sure - I liked how you could fold it when you're not using it. That backlit screen was an even better feature, it was mind-blowing for my 11-year-old self back in 2003. That's cool you still have your DS Lite - I kinda wish I still had mine! Ah well. I do have my New 3DS XL, at least.

@Sunsy Sounds like a good haul! I was thinking of getting Pokemon Yellow as well.

Oh that's cool, we used to have Cruis'n USA and Cruis'n World, both for the Nintendo 64. Those were the last time I played a Cruis'n game, so like 1998 or so. I remember having fun with them when I was a child. I was quite a huge fan of cars back in those days, too. lol

Ah yeah they did give out Mario's regular outfit, that was pretty cool. I definitely like the tennis outfits for Mario and the others, though - it's not just Peach and Daisy who have them.

That's actually cool you back up your GOG games on CD-Rs. Yeah totally - I especially remember when I insert a game CD-ROM for the first time, I'd do the whole setup process, wait for the whole game to install, then I'd start playing.

I managed to revive my old top-screen-less Nintendo DS. I though it was a goner last year after my failed attempt at fully removing the (broken) top screen left it seemingly fried.

But today I managed to make it turn, and stay, on, and even installed it a mono speaker (salvaged from the stop screen unit) successfully.

Unfortunately, with all the movement and lack of skill, the touch functionality did not survive the ordeal, so it’s not possible to use it to transfer Pokémon from the GBA games to the DS games, which is a bummer because that was the main thing I used this for before it broke.

Still works to play (and create backups of) GBA games though, which is at least some use for it.

I might look into the possibility of purchasing a replacement touchscreen in the future.

Edit: I went back and tried random stuff and the touch screen works now! I’m so glad it does work after all

@BruceCM I enjoyed Layton's Mystery Journey but I'm not sure I'd recommend it to a newcomer to the series. Not because it has any narrative connection to the previous games (it doesn't at all) but because the storyline isn't great, so the main appeal of it for me was the core gameplay of wandering around tapping on things and finding puzzles - which, as a longtime fan of the series, I find charming and nostalgic, but if you're new to it you might not find it very interesting without a good plot to go along with it.

That said, you'd probably get some enjoyment out of it if you like puzzles (some people say the puzzles are not as good in this game as in the older ones but I didn't notice much difference in quality). So if you're interested in giving the series a go and Switch is your only option it might still be worth a look.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

I have been playing sifu in the last three days for the first time, and let me say I, I was hyped for this game! And let me say, it does not disappoint one bit, it’s amazing! I love rougelikes, I love kung-fu, add them together, oh yeah you know I’m getting it.

So I think I suggest this game to anyone who love rougelikes, or kung fu! Due to its knew difficulty mode added now, you can play it no matter the skill level! So if your on the fence with this game, just do yourself a favor, and buy this amazing game.

I got the first ending, and tomorrow I will go for the next, I will probably write more thought, and maybe a list on bosses I loved or disliked.

Apologies if the fun was ruined, I just felt the one line spoilers not covering up the actual spoiler could be troublesome for anyone trying to avoid them.

@Kermit1 Here you are, with the spoilers fixed, and you managed to make the spoiler box a bit taller, lol.

@WoomyNNYes Oh ok, sorry to hear.

@MarioLover92 Yeah, I have Pokemon Yellow, but it no longer saves, so had to grab it. Balloon Kid is interesting, given in Japan, it had a Famicom port and turned into a Hello Kitty game, even though it's a sequel to Balloon Fight. I think I read the original Balloon Kid got released as Balloon Fight GB as a color remake for Game Boy Color in Japan, while the original didn't.

Cool, I actually don't think I ever played the home versions of Cruis'n, only the arcade version.

Yup, I chose to keep the save file from that beta in event I ever got the full game, it actually showed up in the trial too, so I have it in my save. Just a matter of when I can buy Mario Tennis Aces.

Yup, that's why I do it. Just that nostalgic feel, though GOG's offline installers are a bit more simplified than the old setup programs. It works perfectly considering GOG's games don't need Internet activation to install them (installed them plenty of times without Internet access).

@burgerkingsauce Oh, ok. Yeah remember clicking yes, would put on a stage show teaching the abilities. Amazingly, clicking no, it still shows it, without the stage show. Maybe next time I play, I'll click "yes" just out of nostalgia.
