@bimmy-lee I really feel for parents and educators right now. Covid restrictions vary everywhere. A lot of districts around here are allowing in-school learning with restrictions in place, but parents can opt for their kids to learn remotely. Said districts have to be ready to go fully remote for a couple of weeks at the drop of a hat if X number of cases (depending on the district; usually the number is low) surface in a building, especially if more than one kid in the same household gets it. This is by far the hardest on younger kids, I think; my mother teaches first grade, and they're VERY huggy and affectionate at that age. Add to the fact that some of them don't really get the concept of social distancing, don't wear their masks properly or do odd things like play with or chew on them, and pull all sorts of shenanigans with them....It's a recipe for chaos in an already bustling classroom. Not to mention the teachers have to fit all their usual stuff in and end school an hour early so that they can make videos and field any calls or emails regarding the remote learners. I've asked why she can't just stream the videos as she lectures in class, but she could violate privacy laws that way on the off-chance she has to chastise some kid while recording.

Many are doing the best they can. And yeah, that's a TON of screen time for kids. Bimily doesn't need to go cross-eyed in front of an iPad screen for that many hours a day. I used to deal with severe eyestrain before getting smarter about taking breaks and messing with brightness settings and/or dark modes.

I do hope to at least start Breath of the Wild before the year is out. I'm currently working on the Future Connected epilogue of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition after taking a short break. Once I wrap that up, I'm thinking of moving on to Super Mario Odyssey since I haven't played that one yet. It is Mario's 35th this month, after all!...._{Or I'll cave and play 3D All-Stars....} I enjoyed the original Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U. Sure, it wasn't a canon story by any means, but I loved how many awesome characters from the series were mashed together in a fun setup. That was the first Musou game I played, and I quite enjoyed it. I decided to give Fire Emblem Warriors a pass as its reception was a bit more mixed, but Age of Calamity is definitely on my radar!

@BruceCM Perhaps, but I really am itching to play BotW before too long. XD

@Heavyarms55 I've only ever heard "Simp" used as a shortened form of simpleton. Never in the context you're describing. Like you, I don't do much with social media. Sure, I still have a FB account, but other than checking notifications once in awhile I ignore it anymore. At least until after the election is over and done with. I was sick of seeing emotionally charged half-truths, clickbait, and content clearly just meant to get people riled up for no reason. I used to forum crawl quite a bit back in the day, but this site is about the extent of my posting these days outside of a couple of chill Discord channels. I've been trying to internet less in general and organize my free time better.

Don't know if I'd fit the description or not. I was raised to be polite to everybody I meet, and while I won't kiss someone's boots, so to speak (especially if they're rude), I'll open doors for people (and that action is more often than not returned, depending on the entryway in question), say excuse me, etc. Basically the common courtesy and politeness I was raised with. I don't expect someone to pay for my meals and return the favor in kind the next time around if it does occur. A friend and I "trade off" when we eat out this way. XD Unless it's one of my grandmothers. The fight for the bill is one she almost always wins.

Also, on a different meaning...I've always taken "Being whipped" (though the form of this phrase I'm familiar with is more crude) as more like someone who won't stand up to their SO and will bend over backward to do whatever they say. Not so much about just being nice.

@Tyranexx It gives me hope that perhaps it's just been an odd series of coincidences then.

On another note, no offense, but I think many people are being overly optimistic about the election fixing things. It's going to take far more to heal this society.

@Anti-Matter It's not brainwashing. People choose to behave how they do. Blaming things like social media or movies or music is trying to free people from the blame they deserve for their own actions.

If I were to blame anything, I would blame parenting. I feel like a lot of parents think all they have to do is to keep their kid fed and clothed and school will do the rest. School isn't a replacement for parenting. Teachers have classes with 30 or more students at a time and see those kids for a few hours a day a few days a week for a single school year. And giving a kid a tablet or phone to keep them quiet while the parent does their own thing, is not parenting.

But even that is just an excuse. People are responsible for their own actions. People make their own choices. We are thinking creatures. We have free will. No one is forcing people to be how they are. There's no magic, no brainwashing, no outside force causing it.

People who are jerks, are choosing to be jerks.

Ah, great answer.
I saw same thing in my hometown, the careless parents and depended on school to take care their childs. They used the school as laundry mat service if you know the analogy. They don't even try to educate their childs, leave the school as mandatory parenting.

My opinion, i think the reasons there were so many careless parents like that possibly:
1. They have no knowledge about good parenting.
2. They have to get married by under pressure of social norm and having kids that wasn't their passion just to justify their status as normal people. If there is a people who don't want to get married and making family, some peoples judged them as a weirdo or sin for not following the Bible or peoples still don't open minded with Single status and LGBTQ community.
As the result for having kids with no passion of take care of them, it lead the careless parents to do their ego.

I have noticed with some previous students (they have graduated now from Primary schools) that didn't have Full family members. Some of them have separated parents (divorced parents) and i still remembered there were two students (grade 1 as they started to study in my school) that suffered by tension of their divorced parents about adoption and following daddy or mommy side. In result, the sister suddenly moved to other school (grade 2, during Mid semester) because she have stay with her Mom and leave her brother study in my working school place and stay with Daddy side. But after the academic year finished, her brother also moved into another school, family affair as you can guess.

I was thinking, if you are not ready to raise the kids and making family, do not get married and just keep ignore all the stigma being single forever. There were some famous peoples who still being single until the end of their life, let's say Helen Keller, Beethoven, Coco Chanel, etc.

Btw, how do you deal with a trivial question when peoples asking your status in your place currently?
Are they very sour to see single status peoples?

@Anti-Matter It comes down to this in my opinion, if you aren't ready to be a parent, don't have kids. It's 2020, there are precautions a person could take. But if you have a kid, you have a responsibility to that child that goes beyond making sure he or she is fed and clothed.

@Anti-Matter Better than most of the rest of the country. California is literally burning to the ground right now. So are Washington State and Oregon. There are several hurricanes heading toward the south eastern states right now.

But here in the Arizona desert, things are just hot and dry.

@Heavyarms55 Perhaps. Or like someone mentioned above, it's just one of the newest buzzwords. One that'll be used as nauseum and subtly changed in meaning until it's no longer "in".

Oh no, I don't expect the conclusion of the election to magically fix the toxicity on social media. But I do hope that, after whoever wins is sworn in, all the nasty buzz will simmer down a bit. I don't expect it to ever fully die, I just...well, hope it isn't as common.

@Anti-Matter To add to the excellent answer up there....I think the fact that anyone can be anonymous on the internet makes some people think they have free reign to be unpleasant and express their opinions in a rude, offensive way. Even with services where one's actual identity may be used, this is a problem. All because someone is sitting behind a screen hundreds of kilometers from who they might be insulting.

Disagreeing with others is fine. That's a natural part of the human experience. But the key is discussing those differing opinions in a reasonable, constructive manner.

Also, it's totally fine to be single. If you don't want to be in a relationship, don't force yourself into one. Plenty of people out there live fulfilling lives without ever entering a relationship or exchanging vows.

Anyway @Tyranexx Fair enough. But I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. At this point I'm just hoping we make it through the election and that both sides respect the results and that we actually get the results without everything going horribly wrong.
