@gcunit
Thanks for the reply. 😀
I have sent you my feedback.

I’m going to buy a weed eater today. I don’t have any grass, so it’s one of my most important yard work tools. I’ve been getting by for many years on an ancient weed eater I got from my grandpa’s auction. It’s heavy, leaks gas, takes roughly 10,000 pulls to start, and dies every time I release the throttle. It’s going to be a really nice upgrade, and merely thinking about purchasing equipment like that kind of makes me feel like Clint Eastwood. I’m gonna stroll into Home Depot with a hundred yard stare and pretend like I know exactly what I’m doing.

@bimmy-lee What's a weed eater look like? I can't really imagine one.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

@gcunit - It's a grass type starter! Actually, I’m not positive how to post pictures, but imagine a four foot aluminum pole with a big u-shaped handle and squeeze throttle right in the middle. On one end is a small, two cycle engine which spins a bladed head at the other end of the pole. You hold it at 45 degree angle, with the motor up in the air while you sweep just above the ground with the bladed head to cut down weeds and other vegetation. The “blades” are often just sections of braided plastic weed eater string, but I’m looking for the upgraded head with three plastic blades. I’m in the woods, so I’m hacking away at vines, stringy plants, and volunteer trees.

But seriously, tell us what @Anti-Matter e-mailed you. Is it about Arnold Eagle? It is, I know it.

@bimmy-lee I go all yuppie battery powered on such things. Can't stand gas engines. They're fiddly, messy, you smell like an oil rig when you're done, half-deaf, and if you're unskilled at maintaining gas engines they break constantly, cost a fortune to maintain and are painfully inconvenient. And it was bad enough before our darling government "fixed" the design of gas cans from their "broken" state of a jug with a spout into the failure-driven spring-loaded disaster based cap-less contraptions they are now, so every time you fill a small gas engine you dump about a pint of gasoline on the grass and your feet, before it soaks through your hands from running down the side.

Plus....I've got most of the batteries around from most of my other tools already, except for the big special batteries for the really powerful outdoor tools....

@gcunit Weed Eater is a name brand, used commonly like Kleenex for tissues or Frigidaire for refrigerators (more of a '50's, '60's thing.) Also called weed whackers, string trimmers, etc.

@bimmy-lee @NEStalgia Got ya. I know those as strimmers (for the smaller, plastic line cutters - I have a corded electric one) or brush-cutters (that's what my Dad calls his engine powered bladed version).

@bimmy-lee Anti-matter's email was just a legit leak of Nintendo's E3 announcements, nothing to concern yourself with

@Zuljaras Don't worry, I've made sure @Anti-matter's emails go to my inbox now, so he won't need to nudge me on here about them in future.

@gcunit I think metal-bladed ones are referred to as brush cutters here as well, though those are consider more industrial/commercial applications and tend to require much more powerful motors. Except I think the blades themselves (that you can attach on any string trimmer with enough power), are the part we call brush cutters.

@Zuljaras - You should start a thread titled “Everything I do is so edgy and cool” and keep all your thoughts there.

@NEStalgia - I’d really like to go electric. I borrowed one this Spring to see if it could handle what grows in my yard, but it’s not meant to be. I have a lot of woody plants. I just need the extra kick a gas motor provides. But your description of two cycle motors and the gas cans that fill them is completely accurate. You just missed the part where the vibrations give you numb numb arms after 20 minutes.

@bimmy-lee Did you try the "consumer" grade battery powered ones (meh) or the good stuff? 36v & 40v stuff (Dewalt, Makita, Greenworks/Kobalt, etc?) That stuff is 1:1 comparable to gas. Expensive.....heavy....but dang that stuff has power.

To be fair I've gotten vibration-induced numbness from that stuff as well. It may not idle with vibration like gas, but in use, it's still poorly balanced rotating blades....

No promotion for me. It went to the managers favourite who barely works on the department and was put to the interview on that managers request. Ah well.

At least they worded it nicely. What they meant by continue learning was "You aint good enough and probably wont be". Should the opportunity come up again I probably wont go for it. Dont see much point.

@Knuckles-Fajita hang in there bud. I would think if you keep applying for newer , higher positions they'll see your dedicated and want to better yourself. Surely they should see that way at least. It goes a long way in my eyes if someone keeps at it.
