Sweeeet, I'd love to hit up a good arcade..if I can find one

@bimmy-lee That's true, and the kids would be lucky that's all that happened to them. I used to follow the news obsessively, let me tell you, stories about parts forgetting their children in the car, in summer, are far more common than they should be...

Real nice find. I’d love to pump some quarters into all those. Especially Metal Slug, Tekken 7, and Kart. Candy cabs are gorgeous. Everything I played today was pretty new. There was a VR station that was all roped off and behind curtains. We didn’t try it. Even if I was there on my own, public headsets creep me out.

I have a retro game store that's a few minutes away, and that doubles as an arcade too. It's a very good one at that, too. Besides games like Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2, it's got Nintendo arcade games like Donkey Kong, Vs. Super Mario Bros., Punch-Out, and Mario Kart Arcade GP (the first one, by the way). There's plenty of pinball machines too, including one that has a Mario theme (fun fact: it was the first time Charles Martinet did Mario's voice!).

I’d drop mad quarters to play an arcade cab or Punch Out.

Ironically, I have this exact same problem. I'd love to frequent a good arcade...but none have been around here since I was a young Larvinexx. The best alternatives are a couple of machines scattered at random area businesses like a bowling alley and the occasional bar.

I noticed there was a nice looking Klondike solitaire game on sale on the eshop, and I thought hey I don’t have that on the switch yet.

So I downloaded it and it’s indeed a nice version. Pretty graphics, nice music, lots of things to unlock and customize the game with... But it has a fatal flaw... An ugly oversight...

WHY would you make a solitaire game on a system with a touch screen, and NOT use it!?

Sigh... like, it would be so much better with it. Pointer controls would be nice for docked mode too, but I feel like touch controls should be a basic must for games like these when available.

I still haven't replaced my Switch's back case with White color.
It still Black color as default.

Anti-Matter

Heavyarms55

@Anti-Matter I was too nervous to try doing that. Also since we can only reasonably replace the back, I think I will leave mine be. If I could replace the whole shell, I might have considered it.

@ReaderRagfish Awesome, sounds like mine! Of course all you see in the front are the claw games...that's how it's always been!

@Heavyarms55 The news sells negativity for profit. Like "gaper delays" when there's a car crash, everyone tries to get a look so everything slows down more....people somehow are addicted to looking at misery. So...the news exists to turn a profit selling what people want to buy. In some spheres the worlds is even worse than the glossy shiny depiction of misery the news presents. In some areas it's better. But the news is just canned, groomed, pruned and polished misery for easy digestion to keep people returning for more. Not too bleak, not too bright, just the right misery to consume daily.

" stories about parts forgetting their children in the car, in summer, are far more common than they should be..."

Well, it's understandable. I mean things are busy and it's pretty unlikely you'll remember them back there unless the duct tape and tranqs wore off before you got to your destination. Plus duct tape isn't cheap, so it's really a net savings in the long run!

There’s an old expression in pro wrestling: Red equals green. If people know they’ll see some blood, they’re more likely to buy a ticket/pay to see it.

And green equals red, because nobody wants a good wrestling match ruined by green-blooded, dumb poser aliens.

@HobbitGamer - Unless that alien is Spock, and the match is an ancient, ritualistic blood duel against Kirk on the Vulcan planet. One of the most confusing and emotional moments of my youth. Like when The Mega Powers exploded, or the Hulkster rassled Ultimate Warrior.

@bimmy-lee Ah, good ones. But I don’t think Spock is really an alien anymore. But Klingon Christopher Lloyd is still one.

Question.
I just wonder about how do you think about me.
Do you think it's very Unusual / Extraordinary to find a gamer with mindset and favorite things like me ?
I mean, a very different gamer.
Sometimes, i feel lonely to be myself that so... Different.

Imagine what you could do with those annoying hard drives...

"gaper delays"

Over here, they have a name for people that do stuff like that: in general, they call them sensation seekers, but more often than not, the label used is "disaster tourists", for the exact same reason you mentioned: they form a line/queue to watch accidents, instead of actually helping and/or moving along if there's nothing they can do.

As for the duct tape thing and children in cars: that's just a waste of good tape. Everybody knows that velcro is FAR easier to use, especially with little tykes...

@bimmy-lee Well, if you're even remotely interested, and you also play games on PC, then I can highly recommend using the wonderful Amiga emulator WinUAE, which simply stands for Windows Ultimate Amiga Emulator. And it really is, by the way. Very user friendly and highly configurable and compatible.

The emulator is available for just about every platform, including the Nintendo DS/3DS and the Wii and Wii U. So, if you still have a soft-modded Wii lying around, it's even easier. All you need to do is download the emulator (this specific version is called UAE Wii), find some games (most of which are by now not hurting any company in any way whatsoever, if you download them for free) and you're good to go.

On the Amiga home computer, you'll find plenty of exclusive titles, but also quite a lot of multi-platform titles from the 16 bit era, seeing as a lot of games of that generation were also published on the SNES and Sega Genesis. However, since the Amiga was an actual home computer, with far more advanced sound and graphics chips, those versions of the multi-player games were often far superior to their console counterparts.

Just take game music (& sound) for example. Here's a little game called "Cannon Fodder", which features a title song. Except on (most) consoles it's only music (the exception being the Panasonic 3DO and the Atari Jaguar, but then again: hardly anyone ever bought these systems, so far as I'm concerned, they don't really count), whereas on the Amiga, it's an ACTUAL song, with lyrics AND music:

Time table, so you can fast forward:

Commodore Amiga - 0:03
PC (DOS) - 2:25
Genesis - 05:20
SNES - 07:37
Panasonic 3DO - 10:11
Atari Jaguar - 14:45

And one thing to keep in mind: those last two, hardly counting consoles use CD drives, whereas the Amiga only had 3.5" floppy disks.

So, if you're slowly becoming intrigued, and want to give it a go, then here's some links:

WinUAE: http://www.winuae.net/
UAE Wii: https://code.google.com/archive/p/uae-wii/

You'll also need the so-called "Kickstart ROMs", which are basically just the Amiga version of a console's bios ROM, which you will need, to start up your virtual Amiga computer on your PC.

From the list in that link, you'll only need three essential ones:

  • Kickstart v1.2 rev 33.180 (1986)(Commodore)(A500-A1000-A2000).rom
  • Kickstart v2.04 rev 37.175 (1991)(Commodore)(A500+).rom
  • Kickstart v3.1 rev 40.68 (1993)(Commodore)(A1200).rom

(you can also add CDTV and CD32 support by downloading " CDTV Extended-ROM v2.7 (1992)(Commodore)(CDTV).rom" and "CD32 Extended-ROM rev 40.60 (1993)(Commodore)(CD32).rom", but those aren't needed for most games)

Once you've got these three, rename them to kick130.rom, kick204.rom and kick310.rom, and put them in the "roms" folder of the installed Amiga emulator.

Well, after that's done, all you'll need is digital versions of the games, which always came on floppy disks. You need to look for so-called "adf" images (adf simply stands for "Amiga disk file"), which can be found literally everywhere across the internet, such as here and here...

Oh, and to give you an idea of which games to try, here's a top 75 video of the best of the best Amiga games, both exclusive titles and multi-platform:

And this video shows some of the best looking games on the Amiga:

And instead of bombing this thread with too many videos, I'll just link to another one,
showcasing the 10 best Amiga-only games:

EDIT:
I just came across an even more user-friendly version of WinUAE, with all the necessary files already included:
