This is one of the very few games in the Mario series that I never completed. I didn’t finish it back in 2002 and tried again recently and gave up again in frustration. (Couldn’t even get to Petey Piranha in Bianco Hills, kept falling in the water in the part where you have to hover over the gaps) How many of you who played this game managed to finish it? I keep waiting for a re-release of this game hoping they would make it a bit less challenging or at least give it Amiibo support but who knows when they will ever re-release it. Anyone else feel this game is more challenging than the other 3D Mario games?

Best Mario game. I try to play it every year. When I do, I do a complete run. So it's definitely possible

It is really challenging but only if you want to get 100%. Now that a remake is a rumour... The biggest issue for me is the shadowy blue coins location but that could be fixed with a checklist. I think that FLUDD is great and adds some nice gameplay tweaks like hovering and skyrocketing but not inverted controls should be added in options. Even occasional cleaning and squirting enemies is fun.

The camera isn't that bad, it is worse in the Galaxy games because sometimes you can't see where you are going to and die which is very annoying when collecting purple coins. Of course, the camera should be made a bit more intuitive in Sunshine, I remember that it was a problem in the sublevels because some of them are really hard and dealing with the camera at the same time is crazy. When walking on tightropes sometimes it was too difficult to align the camera to jump on the one above or below.

Physics are perfect in this game and Mario controls a bit better than in Super Mario 64 but some sublevels have additional obstacles or very weird gravity (sand bird) with a far camera. Super Mario Sunshine is the Mario 3D game with the most potential and the best candidate for a remake and has a lot of impressive moments. The game is so beautiful and it has some amazing scenes and an unusual contrast like the sun shining through the water and dark beaches with stingrays hiding the light or a mysterious haunted hotel.

All in all, I love Super Mario Sunshine. It's not as balanced as Super Mario 64 but for all it has I'd say that it's the best 3D Mario game to date. I'd even say that the Galaxy games are more frustrating to complete 100% because of the cinematic camera and motion controls.

@BlueOcean good to see someone that loves this game. My favorite level is Ricco Harbor. It looks so lively and the music suits perfectly with the theme of the level. I really enjoyed climbing to the top to reach the Shine Sprite.

This is actually one of the few Mario games I have never played.
