The only problem I have with digital distribution is that you don't own the game. Other than that I'm all for it.

You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

Physical - I like owning a product that I can actually say is "mine," and not just an icon on a screen. Plus if I really don't like the game, I can always trade it in or trade it to someone else.

Exactly.

digital for games that i can't physically get a copy of because it is out of production-yet i can download it from the eshop and physical games because i want my own copy of the game. that and as it's something i want to treasure for a long time.

Initially, I would have said that I prefered physical copies because I can recover some of the money I spend on them by selling them on Craigslist, etc. As I began typing, I began thinking: I really enjoy having a bunch of games on one memory card so the whole digital thing has merit too I guess.

I could see that: "Here, I'll trade you this awesome game for that game of yours "

I'd rather have a physical, digital copy of a game.

Just for you.

I like having physical copies of my games, they make the game feel more serious to me.

However, having all my games on the system, easy to access and manage is great too.

I'd love it if all physical games included the habilty to download digital copies to your systems.

Who wants to keep physical copies of old games, their better off being burn!
No one plays retro games anymore, their too old!

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

Since this is pretty much the same thing, here is my reply from the feature called "The desire for physical media":
The addition of digital games is a fantastic addition to the industry as it allows modern gamers to experience many of the classics and digital download stores offer many entertaining games and its a great development for indie devs but I hope that digital download services continue to be mainly for retro games and original download games and that they never replace retail games. I like having something physical to hold, the boxart to look at, the game box to add to my pile of home console games or my pile of handheld games and the instruction manual to look through. While it can be exciting downloading a game, it doesn't feel as exciting as buying or receiving a retail game. Also, Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss (my two favourite games ever) wouldn't hold as much value to me if there wasn't something that contained the game that I could call my own. I will never sell those games, even if remakes are released on Nintendo consoles in years to come that are different enough to convince me to buy them, I will still keep my original copies because of the value that I see in those discs and that cartridge.

Physical. I like to be able to keep my stuff that I buy until I am ready to get rid of it not because some corporation decides to get rid of it. Akso if I want to loan the game to my friend or take it over to my friend's house to play I dont have to lug around my whole system or PC.

I see not being able to loan someone the game as a plus not a negative.

I mean alot of people don't take care of their own stuff so why would they take care of something of mine?

If I go over to your house and your games are laying all over they place and not in their cases don't ask to borrow any of mine.

With a DL game I can avoid that awkward conversation all together.

haven't we had this question before? or am i just remembering the various threads and articles on the topic? D:

either way, i prefer physical copies at the moment for a variety of reasons (i can sell/trade/keep it as long as I like, don't have to worry about internet access or storage issues, etc.), but eventually (and i mean years down the line) i'm sure i'll be bleating along with the rest of the sheep for our latest downloadable releases. i'm neither sweating it nor chomping at the bit for it; it will be what it is, and that time will get here when it gets here. :3

Response to Question #316: While I still prefer to have physical copies of games over digital ones, the game deals that services like Steam and GOG have outweigh (for me) the downsides.

depends on the Game. There are series like Zelda and Mass effect where I like to have the disc and box art. There are others for quickplay I would want digital. Like Mk7 or a yugioh game.

WAT!

Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.

Physical. But I wish we did what the Vita does where u can download all games. That way any game I don't want to actually have the game, I can get it.
I also wish you could buy a retail game, and install it on your system. You could (every month or whenever you want to to feel safe) put the game itself in, and save the data there, as a backup. This way I could have all of my games on the go, and if I wish I can still have all my save data backed up so I don't lose everything. This would help people feel more secure.

How is that awkward. I have had friends like that and they asked to borrow games from me. I just tell them dude you dont even take care of your games what makes you think I am going to lend you mine.
