Isn't there a Mac version of GIMP?

Yes, but it's pretty unstable - at least on a brand new Snow Leopard desktop. The tools frequently become laggy which makes it all but useless. I'm pretty sure it has to do with X11 (grr, I never have anything but issues with that >:[ ).

Anyway, I'm going to write a Cocoa-based pixel art editor for the Mac once I get the much-needed experience. I've tried a bunch of programs but none of them are optimal for pixel art.

@pixelman Yup, I did it all myself, while looking at pictures for a frame of reference

The last 2 are just from me mashing together sprites from different games.
