Anybody else tried to buy Okamiden on the High Street today? In the spirit of supporting traders in my local town, I made a special trip today to purchase (or so I thought) Okamiden on it's release date. The assistants in Game had obviously not even heard about it, but they kindly checked on it in their catalogue. "Yeah, its available online, but we have no intention of stocking it in-store". "OK, thanks", I said, and left. It was not on the shelves at HMV, or in Gamestation (which is part of Game's empire anyway). I didn't think it was worth wasting my breath, or stretching my temper to ask their intentions in either places, and I didn't waste more fuel checking out Curry's or the brand new Best Buy in the out-of-town retail centre. All these shops have shelves groaning with titles like "Dora's Little Tea Party". Do those really sell better than a game which has been well reviewed and awarded 88% in a national gaming magazine? Is it any wonder the High Street is dying on it's feet? So I'll get my mouse out and mosey over to the online shop (not Game's) and wait another week for my order to plop on the doormat. End of Rant - just had to let off some steam.
Still can't think of a better place to kill some time. Playing Solatorobo and Pokemon White. Waiting for Animal Crossing 3DS - it's taking forever.
@Mowzle I believe you'll have the most luck at HMV, but I know for a fact Gamestation is stocking it in-store, but only in extremely limited quantities. The Game Group took a decision to stock it mostly online but some stores have received copies.
If you're unhappy about this, be sure to contact customer services at the relevant retailer so great games like this can be found more easily on the high street in future!
@James Newton Thanks for pouring the proverbial oil on turbulent waters. I had actually considered contacting the relevant customer service departments, but delayed til I'd cooled off. It would be tragic if such a lovely game didn't get the exposure it deserves after it's extended development period. Remember what happened to "Maestro - Jump in Music"?
@Raylax Thanks for the tip. I'll have a root around over the next few days.
