Sounds a bit like the book version of a mockbuster, basically a movie often low budget that takes the ideas of a successful movie and shamelessly copies it, like Snakes on a Plane to Snakes on a Train, though not even the original sounded worth checking out imo, but haven't read the books so don't really know if that's true, think I'd rather re-read LotR's than try eragon though.

Yeah, there's no doubt it's a copy-cat of the most shameless variety. If I were you I'd just re-read LotR and then not bother with Eragon I read Eragon first, perhaps that's why I quite liked it, but LotR blows it so far out of the water that going back to it is a bit... pointless xD

Not that 'LotR is better than Eragon' is ever a fact that should ever needed to be pointed out. Beef is better than chalk and skunk piss as a pie filling, but you won't see that fact emblazoned on anyone's grocery store.

Dude, if only Anti-Shurtugal was still operational I'd link you with like a bazillion articles about why Eragon and sequels are about on par with poor fanfiction.

P.S. Eragon is a typo of the word dragon.

I used to like them a LOT. Haven't read them in a long time and never picked up the third. Might try to read through them sometime...

Still, the only fantasy series I truly love is The Sword of Truth series. Now THAT is how you take old ideas and make them new again.

I am on the third book of the Sword of Truth series. I actually found out about this series from streaming Legend of the Seeker from Netflix. When I found out that that show was based off of the series I had to check out the series.

I remember a friend mentioning a few good books by McCaffrey. I haven't read any myself though.

something real quick WHY???
i made this a FAN thread not for people to say the do't like it i mean yeah you have your right the that opinion but everyone who has posted besides me is dissing on the series

I hate when people do that when you want it to be a good thread with no strings. if people don't like the movie though couldn't they just make another thread about it i mean i actually liked the move and i Haven really read the story to know much about the book. Though for people who said they do like Eragon this post is not for you.
Usually when i don't like something and the person that made the thread states that its fan or what not thread and I come to differ I usually make a new thread then of course.

Eragon though was kewl I enjoy a good
Dragon movie when he found the egg and brought It back with him and hatched in the barn just make me closer to the movie.
the story is set about this boy who find a dragon and has to flee his village and basically forced to learn to be a dragon rider. A boy who does not not how to fight learns so quickly and defends what he needs to. such and amazing movie if you come to understand it. eeeuuuuuuuup

I understood the film perfectly, thank you. It wasn't exactly what you'd ever call a complex plot. Boy with dragon defeats evil looking evil people. And the old mentor dude dies oops spoiler. It was astounding that they managed to adapt the book in such a manner (let's not forget that like it or loathe it, the book is a cliché storm whichever way you look at it) that it was more cliché-ridden, simplified the plot (I'[ll never for the life of me understand how they managed to do that, it was hardly that complex in the first place), and managed to miss so many of the important characters, plot points and locations that a sequel adaptation of Eldest was rendered completely impossible. Although that last one is probably more of a blessing than a curse.

Just to clarify again: I enjoyed the books. Sure, it's a cliché storm, barely more than a bad fanfic, but it had its charms. The film was terrible whichever way you look at it, though.

If you can understand the three little pigs I'm pretty sure you can understand the Eragon movie at least. It was even more of a blatant ripoff of things than the book was. For example:

We all know that iconic image of Luke Skywalker looking into the suns on Tatooine from A New Hope.
Untitled
And here's Eragon at roughly the same point in his Star Wars "Inspired" story:
Untitled
We alll already know the story is EXACTLY the same, but creating the same scene is just pathetic.

Sunsets happen, you now. Not just in star Wars.

But yeah, the movie was an insult to the novel.

Throwing in a scene of the protagonist staring into the sunset trying to determine his future right after his uncle says he's going to need to work more in the beginning of a movie that has the exact same plot as Star Wars except worse isn't just a random sunset though.

Dead thread, but man, I just got the DS Eragon game, and it's shockingly good. Like, better than it has any right to be. Never read the books, haven't seen the movie, but I'm really enjoying this game.
