The Nintendo Direct conference was ... light on news. However, Nintendo did announce that the first downloadable demos for retail 3DS games are hitting the Japanese eShop today! The selection includes Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy, Resident Evil: Revelations, Rhythm Thief, and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D.
All of those games are expected to launch in the US around the same time as their Japanese releases, save Theatrhythm, which hasn't been announced stateside. We're just going to be optimistic and believe demos are on the way soon. Of course, we were optimistic about the amount of news we thought would come out of this thing, as well, and that didn't get us very far.
Yeah I can't wait for that really laggy Kid Icarus game.
Right Brawl?
They probably heard the endless complaints by now. No way they will let the online be laggy and ruin a great mode again. I'm sure it will be smooth and fun and the only time there will be lag is when you play someone with a weak connection.

Oh come on. Nintendo got Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7 right with smooth online, so that guarantees the next Smash Bros. and Kid Icarus Uprising will have smooth online play.

Wow. just wow.
Smash requires much more active interaction than any Mario Kart. Hence the lagginess
