Topic: Nintendo buying Mega Man and Sonic?

I'm not saying this is happening and it likely won't, but hypothetically, with Capcom seemingly no longer interested in making Mega Man games and Sega seemingly not getting what long time Sonic fans want, how would you react to Nintendo buying both characters to immediately place them into crossover titles like Mario Party, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros. then begin development of new Mega Man and Sonic titles? Do you think Nintendo would get them right? Would you even buy a Nintendo-made Sonic or Mega Man game?

If this has been asked before, my apologies and I'll delete this thread.

Has Nintendo ever bought or sold a franchise before?

Maybe if key team members were brought along, the series' could use a nice revamp.

@Viewtiful_Joe: I'm not really sure if Kirby and HAL labs count. Maybe?

They've definitely fallen in love with the Sonic character as of late. I believe they'd do both right. Especially Sonic, since Sonic Team doesn't know what he's all about. And they'd make some fantastic Mega Man action, as well. But as has been pointed out, this will never happen.

@bro2dragons: Yea, the odds are stacked against it ever happening. I'm sure the companies other than Nintendo will rather not use those characters ever again, ruin the franchise (not on purpose), or place an unrealistic value on them. It's like my friend, he won't ever ride his bike, but when my girlfriend needed one and she offered him money for it, he wanted more than full price for it, LMAO!

HAL Labs were bought but we're not talking developers here. And no Kirby was made post, Nintendo purchase of HAL.

The amount of love Megaman is getting (next to none) lately makes me sad. I would be so much happier if Nintendo were to take him off of Capcom's hands, since they obviously don't want anything to do with him anymore. On top of that, that would mean future Megaman games would be on Nintendo consoles 100% of the time, so I'll be able to buy them.

I don't care about Megaman, but if they did start making Megaman, something tells me it'd get too easy and piss off the fans of the difficulty.

But I don't want Nintendo to buy Sonic unless they actually bothered to do anything with the franchise besides have Sonic show up in Smash Bros.

If Nintendo could Make quality 2D Sonic platformers like the Genesis Days, while still developing the series in 3D, hopefully creating Something like a slightly speedier Super Mario Galaxy with Sonic Adventure 1 controls ( that have been drastically enhanced ) then I would be happy. I miss when Sonic had platforming instead of pattern memorization.

Just as long as they didn't over use, or UNDER use the rest of the cast. Sonic Team hasn't been good about that lately. It's either you play as everybody and their uninvited mother, or nobody but Sonic, Sonic or Sonic.

Anyway, the Sonic fans have been calming down a little bit ever since we got Colors and Generations has been announced... they still got a long way to go though. I can't beleive what babies they're being over something as trivial as physics.

It would be awesome, then I could play all the Mega Man games on Nintendo consoles

Actually Nintendo did buy the publishing rights to Megaman 6 to be able to bring the game to the states. Capcom had no plans to big it to NA because they wanted to concentrate more on SNES games at the time so it has happen before.

Nintendo should just buy the rights to enough series and/or buy another developers that the lack of 3rd party support is no longer an issue.

that's what EA's been doing in preparation of taking over the entire industry after all

(I wish I could be 100 % certain I was joking about what I said)

I wouldn't mind seeing Mega Man and Sonic in Nintendo's family of characters. However, that will mean that Microsoft and Sony fans who love both series won't get any new games from them. How bittersweet...

If a Sonic or Mega Man game comes out I probably won't buy it. If a Sonic or Mega Man game comes out that was made by Nintendo...definite buy

If Nintendo had the rights to make Sonic games, they would throw him on the back burner for Mario and Zelda, whereas Sega would continue pushing Sonic games out at an alarming rate if they kept the rights. At the end of the day though, it's quality over quantity. And Mega Man definitely would be snug in Nintendo's arms. In fact, every game should be made by Nintendo.

lol fist person.

But no seriously, what on earth makes you think they would turn Sonic first person? Metroid is a shooter, so at least that makes sense, seeing as how first person shooter is already an existing genre.

But I don't beleive I have ever heard of a first person platformer. And definitely not one that moves at a high speed. And definitely not one where you are required to roll into the enemy to kill them.
