Here are the 10 features I would personally love to see in Super Mario Maker 3. These aren't unrealistic dreams like full 3D level editors—these are things that would genuinely improve the game for both creators and players.
1. A Required “Troll Level” Tag + Mislabel Penalties
If someone makes a troll level, they must tag it as one.
If they don’t, players can report “mislabeling.”
Too many accurate reports = temporary upload cooldown.
This keeps troll levels for the people who actually want them, and out of Endless Mode for those who don’t.
2. Custom Filters for Endless / Survival Mode
Before starting a run (Endless or fixed number of levels), players can choose which tags to include or exclude.
Examples:
Only Traditional
No Speedrun
All Troll Levels (for the masochists)
Only Puzzle
This lets players tailor their run exactly how they want.
3. Tag Assistant (AI-Supported Level Classification)
When uploading a level, the game can run it in the background 100 times and suggest tags based on how it plays.
This helps new creators who don’t know tagging conventions, and also prevents troll levels from being mislabeled.
4. Mix-and-Match Content Across Game Styles (When Physically Compatible)
Let us use power-ups and enemies across styles as long as the physics allow it and nothing breaks.
Examples:
SMB1 + Tanooki Tail (allowed)
SMB1 + Ice Flower (allowed)
SMB3 + Wonder enemies (allowed)
SMB2 lifting Bowser in Wonder style (not allowed)
Basically: freedom, but within logic.
5. Anti-Grief Multiplayer + Mario 35-Style Mode
Stop players from killing each other in versus/co-op.
Shells pass through players, no body-blocking, no stomping people into pits.
If two players push against each other too long, they become ghost-passable.
Also add a Mario 35-style elimination mode where players don’t physically touch but affect each other indirectly.
6. Remove Levels That Produce Sub-5-Second World Records
Too many WRs in SMM2 get “locked” forever because glitch tricks or pixel-perfect skips reduce intended 1–2 minute levels to a 2-second run.
If the clear-check time is under 0:05, the game should block the upload or put it in a separate micro-level category.
7. Better Browsing Tabs: Most Popular, Most Played, Highest/Lowest Clear Rate
With filters for:
Hourly
Daily
Weekly
All-time
This helps new levels get discovered and gives players far better ways to find content they actually want.
8. Level Age & Difficulty Filters for Endless Mode
Players should be able to choose what kinds of stages Endless Mode feeds them.
Examples:
New Levels Only (last 24 hours or last 7 days)
Beginner / Normal / Expert / Master rotations
This would finally give new creators a fair shot at visibility.
9. Regional & Language Filters for Random Stages
Sometimes you want Japanese levels. Sometimes you don’t.
Let players choose:
North America only
Japan only
Europe only
Korea only
Global (default)
Or filter by title language (English, Japanese, etc.).
This helps with accessibility and lets people tailor the experience.
10. Super Worlds 2.0 (Multi-Style, Multi-Map, Fully Customizable Worlds)
Bring back Super Worlds, but upgrade them:
Mix SMB1 → SMW → SMB3 → Wonder levels in one world
Choose SMB3-style overworld, SMW-style maps, or Wonder-inspired maps
Add branching paths, secrets, miniboss nodes, warp paths, etc.
Basically: let players build real Mario campaigns, not just a simple linear world.
These 10 Features Would Transform Mario Maker 3
None of these ideas require abandoning the core Mario Maker design.
They just expand freedom, fix major frustrations, and make the game healthier for both creators and players.
If Nintendo added even half of these, Mario Maker 3 would be the best in the series by a mile.
Those all sound like good ideas to me. There's yet to be a Mario Maker that grabbed my attention for long. I want to hope Mario Maker 3 is coming next year, but I'm not sure enough.
I haven't played any Mario Maker game yet, but if Super Mario Maker 3 had mouse controls and the ability to make 3D World style levels, I might be sold.
"well it appears I am upside down. what ever will I do?"

@FawfulsFury perhaps to the griefer, but what about the other 3 people? The 9 year old kid just trying to have fun playing a good level, the "professional" map designer looking for ideas or to see what others are doing, or how about the player who takes Mario maker seriously and tries to get world records and be genuinely competitive?
Should that one griefers desire to troll people outweigh the desire for fun from the other 3?
I'm not saying get rid of troll levels at all, keep them. Just separate them from the rest of the SMM3 stage pool.
I was thinking more of multiplayer VS but I still think nsmb Wii multiplayer is 10 times better than wonders no collision, and you shouldn’t be trying for world records in multiplayer that’s just counter intuitive
Yeah, versus is a battle mode more than a race mode so throwing people off cliffs, stealing extra power-ups, turning switches so people literally can't follow you is all part of rhe strategy. Granted, the enormous lag makes all the interaction often not work very well.
I would love if they added a mario 35 style mode though.
I'd really like to see a more complex progression system, as well as mouse controls, contests, and weekly events. The series could really use a community manager or something similar. It has a lot of potential going to waste.
Other than that, restoring features left behind on SMM1 (such as the Amiibo skins and Weird Mario) would go a long way to create the definitive SMM. In general I felt SMM1 levels had better quality than SMM2's, despite being flooded with YouTuber levels, automatically deuploading "unpopular" levels and lacking World Maker.
