and it got me thinking.
Has there been movies everyone liked but you didn't.
For me it was AVATAR
It was hyped so much at school. When i went to see it, it didn't live up to it. It wasn't absolutely terrible but i just didn't like it.
Seriously, I... understand how other people can like it in hindsight and how they can relate to the main character or how the movie takes a darker tone and dwells in the boy's psyche, but really, I just flat out disliked it because I expected it to be your average family friendly movie that I could take my Siblings in to watch. I can understand the praise it gets, but it left a sour taste in my mouth that I wont rewatch it again.
The first 3 Happy Potties. They were horribly acted for the most part(except Snape, the old professor lady, Dumbledore and most of the adult cast for that matter) and the script was awkward.
"The future doesn't belong to you!"
Waiting for: BOTW 2, Metroid Prime 4, Xenoblade Chronicles 3
I like Avatar. I can honestly say it is the most amazing experience I have ever had at the theatre. It is a gorgeous movie and the 3D worked incredibly well. I have it on Blu-ray and it is easily the best looking film in my collection. Based on plot, acting and script, it doesn't hold up very well though.
It was definitely overrated at the time, but it is far from a bad movie.
I'll second Avatar. It was a 2-hour long piece of eye candy, with flat characters, and horribly cliche story.
Actually, Avatar's been quite the punching bag, honestly. I knew exactly what it was going into it (Dancing With the Wolves in space), and I enjoyed it for what it was. It's not a bad movie, at least, though it still has plenty of flaws, so I get why others don't like it, but I just don't get why people expected so much out of it when it was so obviously cliche.

It was more of an experience than a movie in the end. Most people saw it for the spectacle, not the story. But that doesn't stop most from tearing it a (million) new ones because of it 'stealing' story elements.
Or maybe people hated it because James Cameron basically made Titanic again? Add a cliche love story to a historic disaster; add space marines and aliens instead of indians and cowboys with a cliche love story and plot. The guys still a genius though, he's got the top 2 highest grossing films of all time.
I'll mention Avatar as well, but for a completely different reason than what's been mentioned.
I don't dislike it (and actually enjoyed it the first time I saw it), but my brother acts like it's the best sci-fi film in existence, and after hearing about it day in & day out, I'm just kinda tired of it.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
Lord of the Rings. Everyone I know loves them, but I find them very boring, mostly because they're so long winded.. That probably explains why I often fall asleep during any of the movies..
Avatar. my husband loves it. i gave him a copy but with the rule that he can only watch it if i'm not in the room. it is so derivative and underwhelming that i really cannot stand it.
I haven't seen Argo, but I hate it for being just safe enough for the Academy to pick it over far more worthy nominees in order to remain uncontroversial and still play at being "political."
I again agree with Avatar. Same reasoning as @RR529- I don't dislike it, per say. It just gets a lot of praise, when it didn't really innovate much story-wise and was more just cool to look at.

This. This so much.
Exact same type of thing with Rango as well, though I did like that more.
I fell asleep in Alien the first time I watched it... doesn't count as disliking really, but I guess I just find it boring when nothing happens for the first hour of the film. I see why people love it because it is really well made, but my brain needs explosions dammit! >:[
Aliens is a fantastic film though.
But Alien 3 is a film I particularly hate. 90% of the film is alright, but when you kill off three main characters right at the beginning of the film, one of which being a kid you spend most of the last film trying to save, I cannot forgive it. Lazy writing at its finest.

Avatar - I don't hate it, but it's not very well written.
Original Star Wars trilogy - Don't get me wrong! I love these films, but I feel they aren't as untouchable as fanboys think. I think the prequel trilogy has been unfairly maligned when compared to the originals. The writing and acting of the newer films are no more worse, IMO.
