Every time I turn on a Peter Cushing horror movie, they always seem so slow and boring. Is it me? I guess that's just the era? I'm not knocking his movies. I keep trying them when they are on, but they don't hold my attention.

@Snatcher The clowns in Killer Clowns from Outer Space are so weird/creepy, I've found myself watching it a few times. It has a B movie feel. Expect some 80's corny-ness.

@Pizzamorg Wait so is clowns from outer space actually good?

Good by conventional metrics? Maybe not. But is it heaps of fun? Hell yeah.

The Klowns have an awesome theme song, a kill count probably higher than some of the far more famous slashers get over their entire franchise and some genuinely original kills that use the whole clown theme to its fullest, done with special effects that hold up extremely well, to the point of being ahead of their time at points. I also love how detailed, emotive, and full of life the Klown's faces are given that they are rubber puppets and not the more obvious makeup jobs.

@Pizzamorg Awesome, thanks for the suggestions. I've seen most of those, except for The Hitcher, so I'll give that a look. And truth be told I haven't seen Killer Klowns since I was a little kid, which contributed to my life long fear of clowns, so I think it's time I revisited it as an adult! If you got anything else, than yeah lets hear it!

The Hitcher is a classic.

Some other recs for you: Original Silent Night, Deadly Night and the original my Bloody Valentine are both great films in their own right and far superior to their remakes.

The sequels to Prom Night, Friday the 13th, Evil Dead and Halloween are all far superior to their original films. The fourth Nightmare on Elm Street is a total banger too.

The original Maniac is excellent (as is the remake).

I also had a lot of fun with Hospital Massacre, Slaughter House and Motel Hell. The Original Mother's Day is a lot of fun too.

Welcome both, enjoy (:

In terms of me, I watched 2010s Yellowbrickroad, a movie that has been on my list forever. Unlike Last Shift, which was also on my list forever, and turned out to be a complete masterpiece, Yellowbrickroad might be up there with one of the worst films I have ever seen.

I just saw Ron's gone wrong and that was a good movie overall, made me laugh ALOT the ending was garbage though, they didn't take the time to keep it from getting absurdly chaotic and it tried to do way too many things at once. It was still worth seeing just for the comedy, obvioulsy more of a family movie though 8/10 imo

Games I'm playing right now:

Went to the cinema for the first time since COVID began to watch Ghostbusters Afterlife.

I thought it did a good job of passing things on to a new generation & vibe (even if that vibe was just Stranger Things: Ghostbusters Edition, what with a small group of tweens/teens unravelling a supernatural conspiracy in small town America) while tying it in & paying respects to the originals (though I can see some thinking it ultimately leans into the original's story a bit too much, I for one enjoyed every second of it).

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Nostalghia (Andrei Tarkovsky, 1983)

Another wonderful Tarkovsky film. He really is a poet of cinema. I can't say this is his best execution of storytelling, and the movie itself has almost no interest in a traditional forward moving plot. It lingers and draws out as much emotion as possible from scenes with little to no dialogue. Beautiful, melancholy, and disorienting; if you don't mind the sensation of not knowing whats going on your endurance will almost assuredly be rewarded in the final three scenes. Recommended (with exceptions).

@Losermagnet I’ve never tried watching Tarkovsky non-sci fi films, not because of disinterest but I’ve always found sci-fi the best way to digest those heavy topics. I blame Star Trek for spoon feeding me as a kid that I still need the spoon. Also they never seem to come up on Disney+ or Netflix; I can’t imagine why.

Have you ever seen The Sacrifice? That’s the film of his I keep meaning to watch.

@jump not yet, but i plan on watching them all eventually (Nostalghia was my 3rd Tarkovsky film. Andrei Rublev and Solaris being the others). And I agree with you about the sci fi flicks (at least with Solaris). It manages to tell a coherent story without losing any of Tarkovsky's trademarks. Nostalghia uses a lot of memory/dreamlike sequences and, for me, those always tend to raise more questions than they answer when they're in a realistic setting. A lot is left to the viewers interpretation and that can get frustrating.

Stalker is the next one I'll be watching and I know that one is sci fi. Is The Sacrifice?

@Losermagnet Stalker is amazing, but it’s definitely in the slowest of slow burn categories. Make sure you’re in the right headspace before you boot it up.

@Losermagnet I'm not sure to be honest. The Sacrifice the way it was described to me was someone is trying to bargain with God to try and stop a nuclear holocaust. I really need to get around to watching it as it's been on my list for years now.

@faint Yeah, I don't mean it as an insult to Stalker but I'd call it spectacularly boring which creates this hypnotic 3 hour experience. It's my go to example for arguments when someone calls a movie too long or boring "if you think that movie was too long and boring, try watching Stalker and it still isn't as good as it".

It actually reminds me alot of Annihilation, that Natalie Portman flick from a few years ago.

@Rambler Is that Raw, the French (or Belgium?) film about the vegan trainee vet? I saw it at the cinema going in completely blind as my missus wanted to see it, fantastic flick.

Did you see the director's next film Titane? It came out a few months ago and has really cemented her as an indie darling now. It's well worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, because we went to one of the locations where the ending was filmed. It was relevant enough, therefore we sat down and saw the whole thing. And it is so much better than I remember. The writing is really smart, and made me laugh on many occasions. Some of the jokes were just sublime and the comedic moments (like when Indy’s father, played by Sean Connery, said that one of the villains talks Nazi-isms in her sleep, coming a few minutes after Indy and the villain share romantic moments) were much easier to notice compared to when I was younger.

A pleasure from start to finish, and unlike Raiders of the Lost Ark, was awesome throughout. The first one felt like a drag for a little while and the score was mind numbingly repetitive, but this movie is amazing. What a ride.

@Rambler You’re right, I agree with your point pretty well. Marcus was neutered from an intellectual to comic relief, as was John Rhys-Davies. It made the overall tone of the movie very lighthearted instead of the slightly more serious approach Raiders had. Indy’s character origins for his phobia and all is reasonable.

The fourth one was all over the place, and had way too much CGI and random nonsense thrown in that it was compromised before it even began.
