I liked thinking of the Koopalings as Bowser's children and who are they if they're not his children? I think this calls for some Fanon Discontinuity.
What the hell is Miyamoto smoking? I have always believed that the Koopalings were Bowser's kids. Eff it, I'm just going to pretend that they still are. It's not like Miyamoto gives one flying eff about the storyline of Mario games...since they don't have one.
What?! They're refered to as his kids multiple times in the SMB3 instruction manual! If they're not his kids who are they? Ya know what, forget it. They're his kids. I don't care what Miyamoto just said.

You guys know where that statement originally came from? Game Informer, specifically in a side interview with Miyamoto and Tezuka about NSMBU conducted by GI's punching bag editor.
To be fair, they were never referred to as Bowser's children in Japan. It was NoA that described them as such back in the days, but since they returned (in NSMBW) that hasn't been the case.
Isn't it obvious? The first Koopa you meet in the original Mario game is the father. But he was killed so bowser took care of the kids. You guys seriously didn't know that?
If they're not his kids, then who or what the heck are they? Doesn't the name "Koopalings" imply some kinship? Are they clones? Are they Resident-Evil-style mutated Koopa Troopas? Are you telling me the SMB3 cartoon is not canon? (Duh!)
Anyway, you can't answer a question like that by giving us two more questions, Miyamoto-san. You will pay for this!
