@MegaStoneSmash91: Lol I didnt know you could go back to the stage after you beat the boss lol. Well I am in Wilys castle now so I cant go back now at least that I know of. And I wasnt aware of the breakable walls in Stoneman's stage. When I havent played a game for awhile or a new game I try not to use a walkthrough or a guide unless I get really stuck. On my next play through I will probably use a walkthrough.

Played a MM 1 today and beat it. Wow I never realized how hard a Megaman game could be without sliding, or energy tanks lol.

4, 5, and 6 are way underrated, I wish they could have been remade in Wily Wars

@Tasuki You can only revisit Robot Master Stages in MM1 and 4-10. Not sure why you can't in 2 & 3, it doesn't make sense to remove that feature from the first one then put it back in on MM4. Something else interesting is that on some games you can actually do something after the end credits. On MM1, pushing start after the credits end will take you back to the stage select screen, and all Robot Masters are still defeated and you can go through Wily's Castle again. It's essentially a way to get a higher score, but the score is useless anyway. On MM2 and 6, pushing start after the credits will take you back to the title screen, but you must start the game from scratch. Yet another feature not present in all games, and there doesn't seem to be a reason why.

I still consider MM1 to be one of the more difficult games in the series, but it's not that bad. The only real difficulty boosters are, like you said, no sliding and no Energy Tanks, but also that you aren't invulnerable to spikes when you get hit, and some platforming can be tricky. You also need the Magnet Beam to beat the game, so first time players might get frustrated because they didn't know. It's a better idea to jump into the series with the second or third game, and not the first one. Weird.

Yeah I totally forgot about the spike thing untill I got hit by one of those flying nut guys in Bombman's stage and it knocked me on the spikes. But yeah I have to agree it is one of the harder one of the series.

As for press start after the end credits I wouldnt know cause I have been playing them on the AC and if you hit start after the credits it just saves your game and takes you back to the main screen where you select which game you want. I knew that you could go back to the Robot masters in MM1 but I didnt know that you any others let you.

Oh yeah and I agree the magnet beam is a must have in MM1 especially for those platforms that shoot.

@Tasuki The Magnet Beam is not only a must have item, but it literally is a MUST HAVE item. You cannot make it past Wily stage 1 without it. Good incentive to get it, as if Ice Man's stage and the Footholders weren't enough incentive already.

MM1 is also the hardest game to accumulate extra lives in. It's actually the opposite of MM5 in that respect. I don't think I've ever had more than 5 lives, and not because that's the maximum either. It's very rare to get a 1-up from an enemy, and there are 1-ups sitting in the stages that I just can't get. The places in particular are in Guts Man's stage and Ice Man's stage. The one in Guts Man's stage requires you to fall into a small hallway while dropping from one screen to the next, and I almost never get in there. Even if I succeed at that part, getting the 1-up requires a very precise jump, which I can never execute (it would be much easier to get with the Magnet Beam, but I don't ever have it when I'm in his stage). The one in Ice Man's stage is also in a hallway you need to fall into. I hold left while falling, but I never get in there.

@MegaStoneSmash: Yeah I know what you mean I have seen the 1-Ups and I just either passed them up or missed them altogether. Even getting energy for both weapons and health is rare. I think every robotmaster that I went against I had only like half a life bar or something like that. However I did notice that most robotmasters in MM1 required only like 2 or 3 hits from the weapon that was their weak point.

@Tasuki Yeah, 2 or 3 hits is all it takes sometimes. The only ones where that isn't the case are Fire Man and Bomb Man, which take about twice as many hits. That was the good old days were weapons were more damaging to the Robot Masters and you have a greater selection of weapons that actually work on more than 1 boss. Take Mega Man 2 for instance, each Robot Master has at least 2 or 3 weapons that do decent damage to them. This changed in 4 and onward, where the bosses weakness takes away only 4 units of energy off their energy meters, and usually only one weapon worked at all. MM10 is a prime example of this. Each Robot Master in 10 is weak to only one weapon, and all other weapons give minimal damage to him. This is how it's been for a while now, and I wish they'd get more creative with the weaknesses. Having only one weapon that does good damage on a boss takes away some of the fun and discovery of seeing which weapons work on which bosses. MM1, 2, and 3 had something good going on there, but sadly it hasn't been continued.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I played a little bit of each NES game on the Anniversary Collection today, and I noticed a few things I forgot to mention before. In MM1, the sounds of Mega Man shooting his arm cannon and landing on the ground don't sound like they're supposed to. This also goes for when you pick up energy or when the boss energy meter is filling, it doesn't sound quite the same. For MM2, I already mentioned how the sound of Mega Man telepoting out of a stage sounded odd, and I'd like to explain a bit more. It sounds like it has been sped up and has some static noise to it, not nearly as cool sounding as the original. If I had to call it anything, I'd say it sounds a little distorted. When you select a Robot Master from the stage select, the screen flashes much faster than it does in the original game. The sounds of Mega Man shooting and landing sound better here than in MM1, but they're still not perfect. In MM3, everything appears to be fine. The shooting and landing sound good from here onward. In MM4, the sound of the Mega Buster charging is much louder than it should be, and some other sounds are louder or too quiet. MM5 also has the volume problem on some of the sounds. In MM6, the music for the intro telling about the tournament and Mr. X is completely different. The sound that plays as the words appear on the "Get Weapon" screen has been removed.

The audio quality for all 6 games isn't great. It almost sounds like the music was recorded off a TV, but all the music sounds how it should sound, and I can't hear any differences other than the intro in 6. The games look great, however, and the colors are bright and vibrant. All sprite flicker and slowdown is gone, which is good. It appears that MM4-6 were ported better than 1-3, but for the most part they're all good versions of the games. The main problem has to do with the audio, and the gameplay is virtually unchanged.

Just got my Anniversary Collection in the mail. Can't wait to dive in...really looking forward to playing VII again, in particular.

Wondering if I should do a live webcast of my first attempts through 5, 6 and/or 8. Would there be any interest in that?

Oh man...I will never, ever get used to using B to jump, and A to shoot. Whose insane idea was that?!

The sound issues are very evident too. Boy. Mega Man never sounded worse. I probably wouldn't notice so much if not for the fact that I just replayed 1-4 on the VC, but I played a few MM2 levels for comparison's sake, and it sounds like I'm listening to it through cotton in my ears. Awful!

@Chicken_Brutus Yeah, the button swap is pretty dumb, but I got used to it. Maybe you will too. I know about the audio too, it just sounds weird. At least the music for the 6 NES games sounds the same.

I eventually got used to the reverse buttons. I dont know why they switched the buttons. Some people said its because of the size difference of the A and B button but who knows. As I said I got used to them but its been years since I played any of the Megaman games on NES and since I had the AC I didnt bother with the VC releases.

Yep as MegaStoneSmash91 and myself have said they sounds are really off I noticed that too. Like the sound of the bad guys shots are higher than the other sounds and than in Megaman 4 I think it is when you get the robot masters powers after you defeat them that sound too is really loud. I few posts back MegaStoneSmash listed all the differences. Its not perfect but its a good collection especially when it came out, since at that time there was no VC so this was the only way of playing these games unless you had a NES and the original cartridges.

Oh man I tried MM8 today and yeah ummmm I just couldnt get into it. I like the opening with the anime but for some reason I just couldnt get into the game. I made it up to Gernademan but I died a few times against him and ended up shutting it off. Maybe I will give it a shot here later on.

@Tasuki Well, maybe MM8 just isn't your cup of tea. Any chance you could name something specific you don't like about it? Was it the music? The game play? The look or feel of the game? And what other Robot Masters did you try to beat?

I actually have a lot of fun playing MM8. The questionable voice acting, colorful graphics, power ups, and interesting Master Weapons make it a pleasant experience for me. Some of the music is really great too. The one thing I don't like about it is the Jet Boarding segments in Frost Man's stage and Wily stage 1. Even when I've played the game a lot, I still have trouble with those parts. They go pretty fast and that voice saying "JUMP JUMP! SLIDE SLIDE!" is occasionally confusing depending on your position on the screen. I almost always lose a few lives here. Other than that, though, there aren't really any complaints I have about MM8.

@MegaStoneSmash91: Thats just I cant really say what it is. I just couldnt get into it I dont know how else to explain it. Maybe I went to the wrong level first who do you usually start off with??

I am willing to give it another try here but right now I am super busy with getting things ready for the upcoming school year.
