For any Shonen Jump fans who are unaware, VIZ Media is making a transition from print publications to digital publications via internet distribution. This means that they will no longer release any more issues in prints, ending with the April 2012 issue. In return, the magazines should be packing more content and giving VIZ more choices of what to include in each issue, not to mention charging less (through rental). Graphic novels will continue to be sold in print (with some of them available to read online for a fee). If you want more info, visit the Shonen Jump website.
I have mixed feelings. It's nice that the newer magazines will pack more than ever before, but I loved the experience of picking up an issue at a bookstore and reading it at home (especially when smelling them as they age). What do you guys think?
EDIT: Just to clarify, the actual manga volumes will still be sold in retail stores as prints. And the link to the announcement is here.
This is good. I watch the anime versions of Naruto and One Piece, so since the magazine replaced Ultimo and Tegami Bachi with the bland Psyren and the "why do you exist?" Yugioh 5Ds manga I just stopped caring. However, most of my gift cards are for Barnes and Noble (also known as that store that makes me miss Borders), so I likely won't bother. Especially since in some form or another I still haven't finished like a dozen series, almost all of which are ongoing in Japan, and I don't want to get into anymore.

What happened to Borders? Is Waldenbooks still around?
I'd die if i had to read one piece online for the rest of my life
Yeah, who would want to read manga online? stares at everyone reading this
But that's different! Manga belongs in a book! I have strong memories of buying a volume after school and then reading it all afternoon on the couch. Happy Memories...
Known about this for a couple of months now (I'm a subscriber); guess it's just a sign of the times where it's just no longer profitable to publish a monthly magazine. I'll still buy their books (though the only series I buy regularly right now is Tegami Bachi), but hopefully SJ's online stuff will be readable on my 3DS's internet browser, or that rumored e-reader will have SJ support...
Your best bet may to get a cheap tablet like the nook Colorado or the kindle fire. I think to read it on a mobile device you either going to have a dedicated app or a flash or html5 enabled deceive. Even then an app is better as the website isn't formatted for touch control.
WAT!

D: Did Ultimo end or was it just scrapped? Oh please please tell me it got a proper ending!
If I read Shonen Jump, this would be good for me, since I read most of my Manga online (I don't like the looks when I read manga in Public). Still, I haven't read a Shonen Jump manga in years...like, since I was 10, so this doesn't really affect me.

nah, the series are still ongoing, but you have to buy new volumes now.
Ultimo is like the only really underrated shonen series. It's less typical shonen and more "let's throw a bunch of awesome ideas at a wall and see what sticks" series which at least for now is pretty awesome.
The series is basically like "Hey we're just moving forward like a normal shonen series-SUDDENLY MECHA MANGA APPEARED"

phew Great, I really enjoy Ultimo so I would have been sad to see it go. Shame you can only get it in volumes now, but that's fine with me. That's how I've been following Ultimo lately anyways. Now I really want to pick up those remaining volumes I haven't read. Sucks having no money atm.
I knew this was coming but it still makes me sad because I enjoyed reading the physical Shonen Jump. I loved being able to hold Shonen Jump magazine in my hands. Some things just aren't the same digital.
Comics and manga and other good reads (especially the Bible) are so much more enjoyable and personal when they are physical. I enjoy being able to cuddle up with a book and turn the soft and crispy pages and run my hand across the pages and stick a bookmark in it before I go to bed to pick up the next morning where I left off. You don't have the same love affair with a book inside of an iPad or Kindle that you do with a physical book in hand. A book in hand is worth a thousand inside of an e-Reader.
Of course I'm not trying to toss cold water on eReaders the best experience that I've ever had with a book inside of an electronic device is with comics on my PSP and I'm looking forward to seeing how books will interface on the PS Vita.
I also agree that Stan Lee's Ultimo is one of the best new manga experiences to date and I'm definitely loving it.
