Hello, I was wondering if anyone here new anything about Income Support?
I am age 16 and I live in the UK. I live with my parents part-time (Folkestone, Kent) and with girlfriends parents part-time (St Leonards On Sea, East Sussex) I don't work
Edit: I will be starting a 6 week course in Folkestone, Kent and will be getting EMA for those weeks, also I should be getting an MA in Ashford, Kent (14 hour a week) in February. Can I get Income Support or anything similar? and how?
Have you looked around online? I know government websites are a bitch to navigate through but they may be able to help. There's a sizable UK membership here, so I'm sure someone can help better than I.
"The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."
I used to work at a Jobcentre (lots of fun ), so feel compelled to help. Start here, or phone this number... 0800 055 6688.
Thank you, do you know if I should be able to claim for Income Suppport with what I have? Cos I need to travel between Shepway and Hastings alot and stuff. (read above stuffs)
Anyway, you should be able to get Jobseeker's Allowance whilst you are unemployed. 16 is the age you can leave school & enter full-time employment so i'd imagine you can claim at your age.
Despite the various courses you are doing you will probably have to provide regular evidence that you are actively seeking work. You should also be able to claim allowance back dated to when your most recent employment ceased. You should also get back any National insurance tax you paid if & when you worked before. You will have to declare any assistance you are getting from your parents etc.
With the recession as it is I'd imagine they are being more rigorous than ever. Also, you might want to get on support asap before the elections are held & the Tories get in.
EDIT: Ah, Machu seems to be the guy to listen to. Still, get as much as you can before Cameron becomes Prime Minister.

Thank you, great info! I have never actually worked yet and I get given £0 from parents or anything, just a bed, roof and food.
There's no way I could tell you for certain, depends on many things. Just phone the number, get the claim application under way, then you'll have to wait a couple of weeks to see if the claim is successful. The earlier you phone the better, as your claim will start from then and then be backdated to that date. Plus they will be able to answer any questions you have. Hope that helps.

god, I'm having a flashback here
Well, I currently have no credit so I cannot phone them, well I have filled out the PDF I found on that webpage and I will print the 46 pages on Wednesday when I can. I hope I can just take this to Jobcentre Plus Folkestone...
It may be worth checking with the college or whoever you are doing the course with if there is any additional funding available to you, i'm not sure with your situation, I know if you were in full time education your parents would receive benefits until you were 18, but I am not sure what would be available to you in your current circumstances.
