Topic: Having trouble with original Pokemon Ranger

I played the two Pokemon Ranger sequels downloaded on Wii U from virtual console and finished both. However, I can’t even get past the beginning of the original game. Apparently if the Pokemon breaks out of the circle or if I lift the stylus, it resets all the damage inflicted and I have to restart until I do it perfectly, at least that’s how I understand it. Is there any way to make the battles much easier? I don’t think it’s due to the game being the emulated virtual console version because I did beat the sequels. I would appreciate any advice on the original game battles. They are apparently much harder.
