Hey, just looking for some recommendations for Anime that stars Giant Robots. The only good ones I recall watching are Transformers, RoboTech, Mobile Suit Gundam, and Voltron. I also watched Big-O, but that show was mad confusing. I watched it from start to finish, and I still couldn't figure out what the heck it was all about.
Also, Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go! and Megas XLR aren't animes, just so you know.
Code Geass is very, very enjoyable (but not very serious, it's ridiculously over-the-top yet awesome). Fullmetal Panic combines robot battles with slice of life very well. Evangelion and the other Gundams (there's loads) are highly recommended as well.
Oh and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is friggin' sweet.

Bah, I knew I had some more exceptions, but I couldn't remember the names, thanks. Code Geass was absolutely horrid. I mean, it was just too over-the-top for me, I just couldn't stomach it. And the story was just rediculous, and the characters...I think it might be one of my least favorite animes, sorry to say. And Evangelion was the biggest mind-f*** I've ever experienced, and not in a good way. I still have nightmares from it.
Gurren Lagun looks pretty rediculous, too, but I might give it a shot, since the trailer seemed pretty hilarious (though it gave away way too much of the storyline, I don't think there'll be any surprises left). And I think I got the Full Metal Panic complete DVD collection at home somewhere, so I might give it a watch pretty soon. And believe it or not, I've watched most of the other Gundams up till Gundam Seed Destiny. I used to be super-obseesed with that show, and it was the memory of those shows that made me want to watch some more Giant Robot shows, which I had sworn myself off of about 5 years ago. Sad to say, the best of the Gundam series were the ones that were released in the U.S., which I had already watched so much that I could probably recount the entire plot point-for-point of each show without even needing some sort of refresher, so I'm kinda gonna need something new.
Oh yeah, Zoids was the **** way back when! Probably my second favorite after Gundam! Sadly, I watched it almost as much as I watched Gundam. I'd love to finiosh Cyborg 009, but I'm not quite in the mood. Maybe next week? Who knows.
Hmm, well Geass and FMP have already been suggested...
Karas: 2 DVDS, Mech suits (kinda) with awesome graphics and fight scenes. But the plot is totally confusing. Xenosaga: 12 episodes, based on the first game of the trilogy. Have no idea if the dub is any good, though. Ghost in the Shell series: 3 movies, 50ish episodes: one of my favs, lots of robots, cyborgs, and the like. not quite actually mechs but you might dig it anyway. it does occasionally have some pacing issues.
[21:14] pixelman: I blame fheblackdragon
[21:15] pixelman: That's not an f by the way, it's a fancy t.
[21:15] Objection: Tales of Graces "fancy t"
[21:15] Objection: Tinal Tantasy

Oh, and if you want to see a good anime movie with giant robots (well, more like mechs but whatever), you should check out appleseed: ex machina: [youtube:tZkag7M_i5A]
Saw Appleseed and my opinion of it is the same as Karas: beautful, nice fight coreography but it don't make a damned bit of sense.

Just scroll down for the recommendations, there's multiple pages as well.
EDIT: I do believe ANIDB's got recommendations as well these days.
Actually, I'm not picky when it comes to Giant Robot anime. So long as two cool-looking robots are fighting, I'll watch it.You just happened to pick the two shows I hate more than anything that I totally meant to include in the first post "Whatever you do, don't mention these shows!", but I forgot the names and I was in a hurry.
Also, is ANIDB a show? I can't seem to find it when I look it up...
My guess is ANIDB is like IMDB. It's prolly a website.

Not a completely straight giant robot series, but it involves them to a great degree (they stay out of the picture for the first 5-6 episodes, though), and it's a fine series.
Gurren Lagann is probably one of the best anime ever made. And I don't know what trailer you saw, but none of the trailers I've seen even comes close to giving away 1/4 of it. Believe that.

Great, now I feel like a big fat jerk because those two turned out to be among my favorite shows ever once I rewatched them in a better state of mind.

Check out the first Appleseed too (well, not the very original OVA, the first CGI Appleseed. Ex machina is the sequel to it). They're both pretty good. I'm not generally into mech anime, and even less into CGI anime, but I kinda enjoyed those two. Appleseed still had my main bug bear with CGI anime - the characters look awesome when they're leaping around putting holes in stuff (be it by bullet or boot), but in the slower scenes they're kind of dead-eyed, and there's something a little stiff about the animation. They improved it in Ex Machina though. The first has got a better story, the second has got better (and more) action scenes. Heh, it's a bit like the Matrix trilogy. Regardless, it's got lots of high-action fight scenes and some kickassmusic to boot.
And it's not often I describe something as 'kickass' with a straight face.
