@RR529 from what knowledge I have of the character she is partly a by-product of the time and does get better as it goes along.

You can really tell they wanted young teens to buy the comic.

I went into the funny books store earlier today and got chatting to the guy behind the counter and with complete sincere enthusiasm they sold me on a book. They talked about the comic artist’s work as if it is rivalling The Sistine Chapel, Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss and Las Meninas by Diego Velázquez so I’m very much looking forward to what if the Justice League were dinosaurs trade.

Started reading the Dark knight Returns yesterday, and it is still damn good. Not my favorite Batman story, but it’s up there imo. To me though Dark Knight Returns is one and done deal. I don’t bother with the sequels. I tried the second one but yeah…couldn’t do it.

@Themagusx1 yeah, I wasn’t keen on the sequels either. But I did hear Grant Morrison talk about how it’s misunderstood, Frank Miller was writing and drawing it in a more raw expressive way whilst 9/11 was happening which I can see in that context.

As trashy as it was I would like to see him and Jim Lee finish off their All Star Batman series as it was (dumb) fun.

@jump That does make sense. Grant Morrison is awesome, and is a smart guy so I can see where he is coming from. Aside from his writing comics he wrote an awesome book called Supergods which is an evaluation of the super hero genre and his takes on them. Are you familiar with it?

@Themagusx1 That book has some really good insight into the history of comics. His personal stories like after making it big he was taking loads drugs and trying to summon demons is something else too.

Yep, I’m a fan of his and I’ve got signed copy of the book. He was doing a book tour when it was released so I saw him give a mini-Q&A and then he signed everyone copies. I only spoke maybe 4 sentences to him but he seemed like a cool guy from my brief time with him.

The book is only 10ish years but it kinda feels like it could do with a re-release with an extra chapter as the superhero genre exploded in the mainstream since.

@jump it really does have some great insight into the history of comics. Yeah his personal stories are crazy. But yeah a new rerelease of an updated version of the book would be awesome. You are making me want to reread which I may do here.

That’s awesome you met him and got a copy signed. I wish I could meet him. Oh well, at least I have some teen titans copies signed by George Perez, and got to meet him so that was cool. But any hoo what do you of Grants take on the ending of the Killing Joke?

@Themagusx1 I would have loved to get some Perez artwork, I heard he was a really nice guy too RIP. I live in the UK so rarely get a chance to see US talent, I really need to go to San Diego Comic Con one year to meet the ones who don’t come over the UK.

I remember all the debates that happened around the time Morrison said that. I don’t buy it myself, Moore never wrote it into the script (unless Bolland did it ambiguously without Moore’s input) and it would undo the ending of showing Bats and Joker as both madmen. However I loved it sparked debate, comics are kinda minimalist with limited pages so the should be more up for interpretation of what things mean and what’s happening.

@jump Oh yeah Perez rocked and yeah when I met him I think in 2014, he was really nice. I only was able to get some of my comics signed. I would have loved him to do a sketch though, get an Anti Monitor maybe. I never been to San Diego, but if you get to go, hopefully you can meet some of your favorite writers and artist. Last couple years we have lost too many, Neal Adams, George Perez and a few others.

I was mixed on Grants interpretation of it myself. I could see it but then again I second guessed it too. Plus Killing Joke is canonical I believe so in canon Bats never killed him anyhoo.

I decided to give into the hype to give Supergirl Women Of Tomorrow a read, I generally like Tom King’s work so I knew I was gonna enjoy it but god damn. The art is gorgeous and reading it has sorta reminded me why I like comics. With the limited page space you need to make sure everything is as effective as possible so none of this over explaining or fluff, and here the way the words are used is to make it a fun joy to read without it being pointless quips and banter.

I’m so on aboard for his Wonder Woman run now!

Rambler

This thread reappearing has reminded me to finish Here by Richard McGuire. Who also turned out to be the bassist in one of my favourite bands, Liquid Liquid

@Rambler I need to read it too, they are turning it into a big money movie soon so I want to be able to say it’s not as good as the book when it does come out.

I got given the collectors edition of the original Tank Girl run which I’ve been reading on and off for the last few months. I can so relate to Tank Girl!
