Topic: External Apple Multi-Touch Trackpad at Last??

I believe I'm not the only one who loves the trackpads on Apple's recent products and wishes they would release one for desktops, since no other vendor gets it quite right, and since I already own the Magic Mouse but have found it to be a less-than-perfect compromise between mouse and trackpad.

Well, it sounds like it may finally be on its way.

That is all.

There are a couple things I wish my older macbook trackpad can do that the new ones can (like zoom in on pictures), but I literally cannot figure out how to click stuff with the crazy newfangled trackpads on mac laptops now. I have yet to figure out how to click on stuff. I keep pressing it, and it makes that nice little button clicky sound, but nothing happens. I'm sure when I have to upgrade I will wonder what the hell my problem was, but for now, when I use other people's macbooks with those, I'm pretty much incapable of making anything work.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

I totally would have gotten one of these instead of the Magic Mouse for my Mac Mini, but the Magic Mouse is definitely a nice piece of tech; especially the fact that I can use it on any surface, including the sofa!

@Token Girl

I have one of the newfangled multi-touch ones that you're describing on MacBook Pro, and I haven't had any trouble getting a click to register, although I did have to adjust from how I used the previous models (I would rest my thumb on the button part at the bottom, which is actually part of the trackpad now rather than a button, so you have to be careful). You can of course enable tap-to-click if you wish, although I keep that off, because it's too confusing when a light tap causes clicking.

@Sean

I like the Magic Mouse alright, but I'd prefer a trackpad. I actually use the Magic Mouse in "trackpad mode" most of the time anyway (to help with my carpal tunnel / wrist issues), which is a feature enabled by some cheap ($5 or so) third-party software, where you turn the mouse sideways and use it like a trackpad. It's buggy that way, though, and nowhere near as smooth as a real Apple trackpad would be.
