Topic: Ever lost the nostalgic feel of video games?

I play a lot of Nintendo games and for some reason, when playing new games now make me feel that I've "lost" it. Meaning that either I couldn't enjoy it like how I did earlier or I felt the other game was better. I don't know why but somehow I feel like this.

I feel like this whenever I play Mario games in general. I enjoyed Super mario world. But I'm not sure if I can say the same thing when playing super mario 3d land. Enjoyed bowser's inside story but so far I'm not sure if I am enjoyed Dream team. Don't get me wrong its still fun but seeing that its just like BIS, I feel a bit confused( don't spoil dream team's story for me PLEASE!)

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

When you play rediculous carp like GTA IV & V it makes me want to go back to 3 & Vice City instead because they're better games

I think there are certain factors that cause this:

1: It's a lot harder to do something new and surprising in a video game. The biggest jump was 2d to 3d, but there won't be a '4d'.

2: A lot of video games are more interactive films these days, and are narrative based. They want you to get to the end so difficulty levels are a lot tamer. Because of this you don't feel a sense of achievement as much as you used to.

3: Most people are 10 -30 years older than when they started playing games. I know my world doesn't revolve around my games console like it did when I was 8.

4: There are so many games people can buy, and you have more disposable income as you get older, so perhaps it's a case of overkill?

Saying this, I would say the Wii U has captivated me more than any other system has since the Super NES. I had a PS1 and 2, but they weren't as great as Nintendo, and I had an N64, but played it very little. I skipped the Gamecube, Xbox 1 and 360 and PS3, and only had a Wii as a family system for my nephew. I used the DS and then 3DS to pass the time in my lunch breaks, but didn't think I would bother with another Games System.

Then I got the Wii U. I was impressed with Nintendoland and Mario, but I was Arkham City, Darksiders 2, Lego City, Pikmin 3 and the Wonderful 101 that I've wasted literally HOURS on. I became obsessed with each of them, and wanted to get all I could out of them. I rate these games up there with my top games ever played. Now I'm excited to play the Zelda I missed the first time around, get more Batman with Arkham Legends, and see what Bayonetta is really like.

Perhaps it's this break and rediscovery of deep gaming that has made me fall in love with the Wii U?

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

Nostalgia is defined as the remembering of something in your past and the yearning to experience it again. We tend to forget most of the bad in our past and only remember the good, which is why a lot of people have fond memories of games like Super Mario World. It's one thing to say you don't enjoy games today as much as you did in the past, but for people to say they aren't as good or are garbage is ridiculous. And no, I'm not saying all games nowadays are good, or that all games are created equal, there has always been shovelware.

About 1.. actually there was two great jumps.. the most important was 2D to 3D.. I agree.. but most people would say the second was SD to HD.. a lot of people used none HD graphics as a excuse to not buy a Wii... (Of course the gimmick that got mimicked didn't help either.. and what they called lack of hardcore games)

Back on topic..

Yes it has happened to me several times in the past.. (If the topic is older games seems better) much like I think LOZ is better than LTTP... I thought Pokemon Red and Blue was better then Silver and Gold... I think Mario Kart on the GBA is the best of the series.. and the same with Super Metroid.. I was not impressed with Castlevania: Lament of Innocence.. (I thought just about any Castlevania was better then that) and back in the day it happened with Double Dragon too.. (I still say the first is the best) the list can go on and on.. so as far as series of games go.. yeah there is plenty.. that you can say was better in the last chapter.. and sometimes generations earlier.. a lot of people believe Nostalgia is the only reason you think this.. but it's not.. it just has that sense of Magic.. and you know it's a classic.. that even 20 years down the road.. if your able you will want to revisit.. a lot of these games in this day and age is a one time play only.. and has just lost that magic.

I am a wild and free Ninetails not a trainer.. get over it...

Not nostalgia exactly, but the certain feeling when playing games is lacking for me too, I agree. Videogames can be fun or "good" or any of that, but they won't really fulfill you. I know what OP means though. Seems like I loved 'em back in the day.

My nostalgic is dead.
I don't play a game older then an year old.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

Nostalgia Rules the world! but fresh experiences are great too! I try to balance them so it won't get boring

Can't say I feel any nostalgia. I always have the opposite of it. While some like the original/ first, I like the latest. I sometimes play/watch older versions of somethings but I never have that "the original is better" feeling.

A dying animal struggles, thrashes and howls in protest as its life torn from it. To see this in action, watch Animal Planet. The same thing happens when a video game is or isn't released. To see this in action, stay here.

Nostalgia only applies if you actually played the older ones first.

For me, it's not nostalgia, it's finishing games I never had the chance to finish, and many I never had the chance to play. One of the flaws about traveling a lot before portable gaming systems were available, like they are today at least. Moving a lot you lose stuff, break stuff, or generally forget entire boxes, no matter how important the stuff is in them. I have no desire to relive my past at all, I can't stand nostalgia, especially faux nostalgia (like those nuts who think the 80s were so much better than today, and most of them are born in the 90s!). However, as someone else stated, we remember only the good parts of our lives well, the rest is fuzzy or even forgotten, and the best part of a game is the first play through. The excitement of not knowing what's next, the anticipation of there being a story to follow, the surprises the devs throw at you. Once you know the game, well, all that goes away and it becomes "just a game."

In short, I love living in the future, the best time to be alive is right now, and it will always be "right now." Nothing in the past is worth revisiting.

I apologize, what I mean to say is even though I enjoy the older versions of something when it first came out, the latest (current) is always the best for me. Kind of like how I used to think Pokemon Gold and Silver was the best in the series when it was first released. Now I wonder why some people would want to replay it on the virtual console. All the future improvements/ upgrades spoiled me.

So many of the changes to Pokemon have spoiled me as well. The touch screen functions were the biggest changes that have made the older ones just unplayable for me now. I have comfort games, like Megaman 1-6, but for the most part nostalgia just makes me tired.

Crash Bandicoot Wrath of Cortex was the first 3D platformer ever. Played it again a year ago, and it just sucks...

I also can't play any of the GB Pokemon games because of the remakes.
