I read about how your Switch eShop language is based on the eShop region you use
To see if that was the case, I decided to change my Nintendo Account region from US to Belgium
But then I also have my NNID which I need to unlink before doing the region change
Afterwards, I would change my account region back to the US, but then I am asking myself if it even matters having your NNID linked to your Nintendo Account nowadays (and relinking it after I change my account back to the US)
(Repost because I wanted it in the General Discussion forum, not the Nintendo Switch forum)
@MrCarlos46 The Nintendo ID system is dead. It was discontinued circa in 2018 or 2019. As far as I know, it's no longer useful.
The Nintendo account system is the current account system at accounts.nintendo.
Your eshop region is determined by the region that is selected in your nintendo account on nintendo's website accounts.nintendo. Eshop region's only accept the currency native to that region.
Anyone correct me if I'm wrong: If you have unspent money on an eshop account, you can't change your eshop region. So, you can't change back until you zero out your account. It's ok to look at other regions, but be aware of problems that come from having unspent money on the account.
@MrCarlos46 I think language options for eshop are non-existent, or possibly limited, depending on region. I think US can be displayed in english or spanish, and that's it. If anyone buys from japanese eshop, their eshop is japanese only.
edit: I'm poking around to see if and where language options for ehsop might be....
Eshop language is determined by the language set for your console, in Switch System Settings. I just changed my console to spanish, and my ehsop displayed in spanish.
So, to review:
-eshop language is determined by the console language.
-eshop region is determined by the region set in your nintendo account on nintendo's website accounts.nintendo.
@WoomyNNYes, when I tried it with the Belgian eShop, it said that it couldn’t be shown in English and it would be shown with the supported language.
It loaded me the Belgian eShop in Dutch, yet it did not give me the option if I wanted to load in to it in Dutch or French
What I think I see: The eShop language is based on the region your Nintendo Account is set to regardless of what language your Switch has. If it’s a country only speaking one language, like France, the eShop will be shown in that country’s language (in this case, French). If it’s a multi-lingual country like the US, it will be shown in one of the country’s languages (for the US: English or Spanish) depending on what language your Switch is set to.
@MrCarlos46 Yeah, Nintendo Network ID is dead. I believe it no longer has any use, at least for the switch. In the first couple years of the switch, Nintendo had announcements and a deadline for people needing to migrate to the Nintendo account system at accounts.nintendo.com.
When you set up a switch, the only thing you have to do is link your switch user to your Nintendo account. There's no messing with Nintendo Network ID.
Forgive me if I've got some details a little off. It's been like six+ years since the change.
From there I change the account/eShop region to one of many European regions to redeem the code, and once the game is downloaded, I can change my account region back to the US
Anyone correct me if I'm wrong: If you have unspent money on an eshop account, you can't change your eshop region. So, you can't change back until you zero out your account.
From what I understand you can still change it, but you lose any unspent funds in the account.
