I prefer the new style to the old one. Using relaism makes the well wat women are portrayed in the game less creepy.

No it's more creepy because it tries to look more real, but it doesn't pull it off at all. Kasumi's Japanese. DOA 5 Kasumi doesn't even look slightly Asian, so the new style is just totally bizarre.

I honestly can't believe most of you approve of the new style. The old one was much more colorful.

I know that I've said this before, but I can't stress it enough. The HD era has really (tried to) kill off as many diverse art styles as it can.

  • Bomberman (it's gritty reboot bombed, thankfully)
  • Ace Combat (Assault Horizon. Also, being set in the real world, it doesn't have nearly as much creative license as the former games)
  • Devil May Cry (DMC. Another series, throwing away it's style for the worn out mediocrity of realism)
  • Samurai Showdown (Samurai Showdown Sen)
  • Dead or Alive (DOA5)
  • Tomb Raider (the new one. much more unnecessarily gritty than previous entries)

Thats just some of the art style murders commited in the HD era.

@RR529 I completely agree with you, I'm not sure I want DoA5 on the Wii U now. I'd much rather DoA 2, 3 or 4 was ported over.

Well, don't count it out yet. Despite the horrible choice in art design, it could still be an overall fun game.

As a teen and a gamer, I realize that the main attraction to the COVER of the DOA series is BOOBS. GREAT, BIG, MASSIVE, JIGGLY---ahem... But in the actual game is one of the absolute GREATEST fighters of all time! The only way I could have more fun with this title (DOAD really...my only DOA) is if all four face buttons were combat buttons. Left and Right Punches, Left and Right Kicks. The D-pad could be used for Holds, Throws, and Guards while L and R get used for shortcuts like they already are. Nevertheless, a beautiful game and beautiful pixels...

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I guess you're right but I wish they were keeping the old art style. The great cast of characters won't be as charming in that awful new art style.

I just learned of DOA5's new quick time events. The more I find out about this sequel, the less I want to buy it.

who said that the new Kasumi didn't look Japanese - either you are trolling or have an amazingly narrow understanding of what Japanese look like.

I understand they don't have red and purple hair. I suppose Kasumi and Ayane could be wearing wigs or using hair color now. But I'm not sure how that would work into their stark ninja lifestyle.

The demo sure does. Now when you knock your opponent out of the ring instead of him falling, you have an on screen prompt to strike or throw him. And if you're knocked out of the ring, you'll have a similar QTE to guard or evade the incoming attack.

Depending on where in Tokyo you hang out they could well have red and purple hair. I say this with all seriousness. There's some weird fashions over there.

That said, I'm pretty sure Ninjas wouldn't get away with purple hair dye. I suspect its... what do you call it... artistic license?

I don't like DOA5s Kasumi... Doesn't look as cute... And the eyes creep me out
