Ozzfest hasn't been good since like.. 2003. That's the last show I liked anyway, I went and it was amazing. I went like 6 years ago because it was free... and it was garbage. Bands like Lordi and other intolerable scream acts. Don't get me wrong, I love some yelling and screaming, but it has to be done right.
@Oragami I actually went looking for Buckethead stuff after checking this thread and ended up on the electric tears album. It's pretty good so far. I'm trying to find a song that I was listening to a couple years ago it seems.. but I can't find it. The cover was really colorful and I want to say had a beach on it and ocean on it. It's not electric sea.. so I've no clue what it is.
You know you're going places when even Ozzy says you're too weird.
That was great. He refused to take the bucket and the mask off, so Ozzy banned him from Ozzfest
Ozzfest was well-intentioned, but it's dead to me ever since the Iron Maiden incident. Sharon Osborn can go crawl in a cave, to put it politely.
I gave up on Ozzfest when I realized I hated Ozzy's voice ever since the album Paranoid by Black Sabbath came out. Oh, and when I stopped liking heavy metal.
His voice remained pretty consistent up through Vol. 4. It wasn't until SBS that he started really experimenting with those wails and pushing his vocal range.
Or do you mean you hated Paranoid as well? If so, for shame!
Most of what I listen to these days is 60s/early 70s acid/psychedelic rock. It seems like I'm gradually going older and older. As a teenager, I was hugely into the 80s scene, with glam metal and hard rock like Def Leppard, Van Halen, etc. Then I got really into the NWOBHM like Priest and Maiden and just kinda kept working back from there. Now I'm deep into a 60s bluesy "proto-metal" phase. Who knows, maybe some day I'll only like 50s bubblegum rock and roll.
But I'm getting off track! I'll start with Electric Dream and see how it goes.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
@CaviarMeths I liked Paranoid, but if you listen to stuff like Children of the Grave off of Masters of Reality you can hear Ozzy starting to do that wailing thing.
EDIT: And also, do you mean Electric Sea or Electric Tears? Or am I just off base right now?

Yeah, Electric Tears, sorry. I was thinking of uh... Do Android Dream of Electric Sleep, the novel that inspired Blade Runner...

So you get crept out by guys with long hair who wear masks amd buckets on their heads?
Yeah, me too........

Ok dude, since you started this thread I've pretty much only listened to Buckethead. I listened to a few of his albums all the way through and I have to say that Shadows Between the Sky is my favorite. Followed closely by Electric Tears. There something about SBtS though that feels kind of nostalgic and like I've heard it before.. that might have to do with why I like it so much. It's very post-rockish, which I love.
I'm sure I'll be listening to him more throughout the next week. Some of his stuff kind of reminds me of Jean Baudin. Ever heard of him? He's plays an 11-string bass. The full album is pretty good, actually watch him play it if you like it. It's about as impressive as Buckethead's guitar work. I try and play guitar and I'm a novice even after a few years.. watching these dudes play their instruments in such a manner is just awesome.
@Spuratis This guy's pretty good, but does he just do hammer ons and pull offs? And I think I still like Buckethead more, probably because I like the guitar more than the bass.

@Oragami Yeah, it looks like all he does is pull offs and hammer ons. I don't think I've seen him do much else.. Yeah, Buckethead is definitely better, I was just saying that some of their songs are kind of similar. I only really like a few songs by Jean, specifically the one I posted.
I only know about Buckethead because of some video of him playing the Super Mario Bros theme. (Absolutely ages ago - never found it again).
More impressive than e.g the 3000 year old instrument one on the front page of here because it sounded exactly the same. (Including the coin collecting sound).
I'm all for originality, and I love the musicianship of guys like Les Claypool and Buckethead but there is just so much of their songs that go over my head and I don't enjoy. Can't deny they have got some great songs though, I feel like they just are weird for the sake of being weird.

Most of Buckethead's work is really weird and not all that good, but his good songs are masterpieces.
