Topic: Best Treasure game?

Treasure are amazing devs that left Konami, dating back to the Genesis with Gunstar Heroes, and have almost never missed (cough, Alien Storm isn't one that hit, cough cough). Due to their relationship with Sega in the Genesis days, and Nintendo for most of the time afterwards, I find it appropriate to ask what is everyone's favorite Treasure game. This is like an appreciation post because of this

For me personally, it must be Sin & Punishment: Star Successor. Greatest rail shooter of all time, without a question in my mind. The gameplay and its mechanics, fitting visuals, banging soundtrack, and an interesting story that is serious while still spoofing anime tropes. It is also cheap (roughly 30 dollars), so play it if you can.

Their best game is probably one of their beloved shooters, but my favorite is Mischief Makers. One of the craziest and coolest 2d platformers ever made.

This is an obvious cheapshot but it had more creative, fun ideas per world than New Super Mario Bros had in 5 games. That's probably not even hyperbole.

I'm surprised that we've got this far without anyone mentioning Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga, so I'd better put a word in for them. Back in the day, they were pretty much top of the list of the reasons why you might want to import a Japanese Saturn or Dreamcast.

That said, I'd still go with Star Successor as their absolute best. The Wiimote's pointer controls had their finest hour there.

As a Treasure fan, that's an incredibly tough pick. Sin & Punishment (and its sequel), Silhouette Mirage, Mischief Makers, Gunstar Heroes, and Dynamite Headdy are all up there for me, but I gotta go with Radiant Silvergun which is one of my all-time favorite bullet hell games. I love the crazy 3D bosses, the unique upgrade system, and the booming orchestral score by Hitoshi Sakimoto.

Special shoutout goes to Silhouette Mirage, though. The US release bungled the health system but the original JP version stands out as Treasure's most underappreciated game and has some of the best visuals, music, and boss design in their entire library imo.

Radiant Silvergun

It used to be one of the two reasons I held onto a Sega Saturn for the longest time. (That, and Panzer Dragoon Saga.) Treasure's decision to port it to current consoles made me exceedingly delighted. Bought a digital copy and a physical copy on general principle.

Ikaruga is a good but lesser psuedo-sequel to RS, imo.

Sin & Punishment? Firmly third-best Treasure game, again...imo.

As an aside, speaking of Hitoshi Sakimoto. It's mildly tragic Dragon's Crown has yet to be ported to the Switch considering Atlus has been porting so much of Vanillaware's catalog to the platform recently.

Personally I love Gunstar Super Heroes on the GBA. And Sin and Punishment: Star Successor on the wii is one of the best games on the system in my humble opinion.

I think I've only played 5 of their games but out of them, it's Gunstar Heroes. It's the one I've played the most. It's really easy to pick up and play but quite difficult by the end if you actually want to beat the game. I've never even attempted the hardest difficulty so I've never gotten the full Seven Force experience. The board game stage is my favorite.

Radiant Silvergun is the obvious pick (best bullet hell ever) with Ikaruga as the runner up somewhere in the mix.
Guardian Heroes was probably my most played back on the Saturn.
Super Castlevania IV is one of my all time favorite games. I know technically it's Konami, but I'm pretty sure it was the Treasure team. So if I had to say just one, this would be it.
Oddly enough Sin and Punishment I didn't play much, now it's got me feeling like I should go upstairs and pop it in and see what I missed.

For the record I've been playing Radiant Silvergun, or I was a couple of months ago at least. It was a Limited Run games thing at PAX East so I bought it just out of fondness for Treasure (and continuing my accidental dislike of buying modern games on my Switch :V). It's been fun playing it on occasion, seeing how far I can get, not bothering to look enough into it to see if there's a reasonable way for me to beat this game that won't be 50+ attempts from the very start while eternally leveling up my weapons, like its a rogue-like or something (I did try the other mode that seemed a little easier but did not have a leveling system, I think its a console vs. arcade version thing). I guess it would be like an hour long game if it was more reasonable for a normal person to reach the end.

It is very good but not in a way I could imagine being a favorite of mine just because of what the game inherently is going for.

Nobody's mentioned Wario World yet and that makes mad, so it looks like I'm takin' one for the team. An essential Wario game that embodies the character and his appeal: a burly brawler that emphasizes Wario's nature as a powerhouse filled with filthy lucre to had, set in a bizarre land with even more bizarre creatures. Sure, it's kinda short and the JP version has a better final boss, but regardless, It's a true Treasure classic through and through.

@N00BiSH don’t worry, I’m on your side. It’s an awesome game that is honestly still a joy to play to this day. I like that it feels they went all out with the weird and over the top style that feels right at home for weird ol Wario.

I am a huuuuuge Treasure fan. I fell in love with the devs ever since I first played Gunstar Heroes 30 odd years ago or so.

So these are my picks:

1. Gunstar Heroes (Mega Drive/Genesis)
This is the game that made me fall in love with them. It was the first time a run n gun game really left a huge impression on me, which I think was down to the variety in weapon combinations, super fast gameplay, fun graphics, great animations and amazing boss and level designs. Not to mention that it's not too difficult and so was accessible for me when I was a much younger and less experienced gamer. My best friend and I would play it two player all the time and it was my favourite Mega Drive game.

2. Bangai-O (Dreamcast)
I never played the N64 original, but the Dreamcast game blew me away. The intense on screen action (millions of bullets) and unique gameplay was just really addictive. It annoys me the game isn't VGA compatible, which reminds me, there's a VGA patched iso around now that I need to download sometime.

3. Yu Yu Hakusho: Makyō Tōitsusen (Mega Drive)
This is the first Japanese Mega Drive game I ever imported. If the sound of a crazy 16-bit anime 4 player fighting game, with two planes to switch between, appeals to you, definitely check this one out. It's tons of fun.

4. Ikaruga (Dreamcast, Gamecube)
One of the first shmups I really got into and probably one of the first Japanese Dreamcast games I imported back in the day.

5. Sin and Punishment: Star Successor (Wii)
I only recently bought this one, maybe 2 or 3 years ago, so possibly recency bias, but it's already one of my favourite games on the Wii.

Honourable mentions:
1. Astro Boy (Gameboy Advance)
Another one I only bought and played in the last couple of years. I bought it around the time of picking Gunstar Future Heroes or whatever that one is called. Astro Boy seems like the better game and is lots of fun.

2. Light Crusader (Mega Drive/Genesis)
This one is more nostalgia, I know it isn't their most loved game, but I loved it as a kid and still enjoy it. It was a good attempt of doing an action adventure game. I enjoyed exploring one huge dungeon, getting deeper and deeper into it, as well as the magic system. Combat wasn't perfect, but the puzzles were decent if occasionally a bit wonky due to the isometric view and some relying on you need to move blocks around.

@N00BiSH Ah I totally forgot they worked on Wario World. Anyway it's fantastic, definitely my fav Wario game.

I forgot Alien Soldier. I want to love that one, it feels like an evolution of what they did in Gunstar Heroes, but like one huge boss rush mode. The problem is I just suck at it! I can't get very far in it.

I also forgot Guardian Heroes. I enjoyed that one a lot back in the day, but I don't really return to it much.

D-Star92

I played a few of Treasure's games. Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy are awesome games, I'd say those two are my favorites from them. Gunstar Super Heroes was an underrated follow-up too. Also really liked Sin and Punishment: Star Successor.

I've never played Mischief Makers, but I would like to at least try it out. If it does come to NSO + EP, I definitely will.

@Reprise Lol, you and me both on Alien Soldier. When I first played it on the Wii VC, I was surprised by how brutally difficult it was! Especially as somebody who likes Gunstar Heroes. It took a while to finally beat that first boss, lol.

Favorite game: Super Mario 3D World

@MarioVillager92 If I remember rightly, there's a lot of moves you can learn from the limited inputs the Mega Drive controller has, but I found it really tricky. I actually still own the original Mega Drive version, I think I really should sit down and try and learn to play it properly sometime.
