Watching Area 88 (2004) with my bro since he bought vol. 1 yesterday at a local DVD store for $5. Anyone remember U.N. Squadron? Yes, is from this series.
Ever since we hit Green Bit in the manga it's been getting better and better. Of course you get the odd good chapter, but most of it has been fantastic.
The latest chapter (746) had me laughing out loud!
About Naruto:
I have a love/hate relationship with Naruto. I -hate- all three of the main characters. However, I love the world design and support characters. The quality of the writing is also extremely erratic.
As for others, my favorite series would be a toss up between Magical Lyrical Nanoha, Card Captor Sakura, and Magic Knight Rayearth. Honorable mentions go to Sailor Moon and the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Ranma 1/2 and Love Hina would earn a mention, but both of those create a fantastic setup and then go absolutely nowhere with it.
By the way, what do you guys think of Bleach? Every now and then I come across some really nice pictures that come from the Bleach manga and I'm tempted to give it a go. It's the impressive art (though I've not seen much of it) that has piqued my interest.

My favourite Naruto characters are Shikamaru, Itachi & Gaara. But there are a lot of supporting characters I like too. Deidara, Jiraiya, Kakashi, The entirety of Team Guy, Temari, Hinata, Shino, Killer Bee, Kisame etc. Those are some of the names off the top of my head.
Unfortunately the way Kishi has dragged out this arc has meant that a lot of characters never really had the chance to shine. Not to mention the slow pace (although that's no longer the case now) and plot holes.
@Hunter-D From what little I've seen (up to episode say 45) I love it. The problem was when I moved back in the day I lost the Cartoon Network and stopped watching them. Now I'm so far behind I feel like it would take forever to catch up. If you have the time to invest I say you should enjoy it!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
@Hunter-D The art took a nosedive after a while (especially backrounds). I haven't kept up with the plot since Arrancer got dragged out to hell in the anime, but I've heard extremely mixed things from fans about the story.
Well over the weekend I marathoned a bunch more of the Skypiea Arc, and I'm at about episode 170 currently. I haven't been able to watch any more over this week thanks to it being a school week, but starting tomorrow I intend to continue marathoning. Last weekend I got 10 episodes done, so I'm gonna try to see if I can get that much watched again.
Anime watching: Mobile Suit Gundam, Lupin III, & Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable
Reading: The Golden Compass
^...am I missing something? Last I checked, that's a fairly basic but accurate summation of what historically happened. I don't really see much humor there...I thought kkslider just posted it as a point of reference to make the Fire Engine one funnier...

that's exactly what I did for exactly that reason.
i don't know about the manga, but whoever adapted it deserves a medal for comedy and timing. It's so good.
Just finished my first ever run through the InuYasha manga!
Overall, I think I enjoyed it more than the anime. Sure, there were some alterations the anime made that I thought enhanced the experience, and I liked some of the filler, but with that said, there were more negative changes/filler made to the anime than good (many of which made absolutely no sense), the story flowed better in the manga overall, and there was a lot of stuff cut from the anime (especially the Final Act portion, where they tried squeezing 230 chapters worth of content into 26 episodes).
Definitely glad I gave it a read, though I'm not sure what to read next, as it's my favorite anime/manga series, and I just have the feeling anything I choose next will just feel underwhelming in comparison. Might try reading Rurouni Kenshin or Yu Yu Hakusho though, as those series close.
Now with the manga out of the way, I've seen all the content the series has to offer (already saw both anime series, and all 4 movies as well), which is a bit of a downer. Hopefully they'll do something special for it's 20th anniversary in a couple of years. For now I guess I'll just continue my rewatch of the original series on Saturday nights.

Just finished my first ever run through the InuYasha manga!
I have the same problem with Inuyasha that I do with everything Takahashi has created. She creates fantastic characters and settings, and then moves the plot and relationships along at a glacial pace. It was bad in Ranma 1/2, but it was even worse with Inuyasha.

Yeah, while it (InuYasha) is my favorite anime/manga series, I will say it does get kinda slow in the middle.
I'd say the first 200 or so chapters moved things along smoothly, and the final 100 were good as well, but during the middle of the series (starting with the Mt. Hakurei/Band of 7 arc), things just kind of stalled on all fronts. Plot wise, they spent the middle of the series dancing around the same 2 or 3 jewel shards, and romance wise they just stop focusing on the leads during this time, other than the occasional token reminder that they like each other, but nothing big like you got every other little story arc in the first 200 chapters, and final 100 (well, they DO focus on building romance during the middle of the series, but soley on Miroku & Sango, who not only catch up to the leads in that respect, but even surpass them, being always one or two steps ahead in their relationship, up through the end of the series).

Well, since I've recently had my interest in MLP go way up again, and have once more fallen in love with it. Seeing as I still haven't watched it yet, and the fact that I now need a manly counterbalance to MLP, I'd say it's time for me to start.....
TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN
Seriously, this was one of the first anime I heard of when I joined this forum back in March 2013. It's high time I watch this series, and seeing as its on Crunchyroll, I think I'm gonna give it a go. The show has absolutely metric tons of hype around it, but it seems like the odds are it will live up to and surpass my expectations. Seeing as I loved Kill la Kill, and Kill seems to be considered the little sister to Lagann, I could quite possibly wind up liking this more. Time to pierce the heavens.
