I say it's weird because it makes it sound like people here play almost only Nintendo games, which, if you ask me, you're extremely limiting yourself if you do

A lot of Switch owners do only play Nintendo games look at the sales charts - same handful of games week in week out with most 3rd party titles struggling to get in - where did the latest Bayo spinoff chart exactly?
That was a major third party exclusive, but as a spin off could be a hard sell, but then Bayo 3 only managed around 1m sales which means approx 1% of all Switch owners bought such a highly anticipated Switch exclusive.

Old Grumpy and stuck in my ways.

Is Lego DC Super-Villains a third-party game?

Nintendo was originally the home for everything so I think for gamers over 30 there is a natural interest in many genres or even associating games made by 3rd party devs as “Nintendo games” because that’s where they ended up. As such for me I can’t really answer that question as it depends on the genre. For adventure games I will play Zelda over most others like assassins creed or god of war (have both franchises) but I will play Street Fighter over Smash. I couldn’t have a Nintendo system that only had exclusives though (as I do with PlayStation) as I instinctively see a Nintendo system as the home for everything (that devs will put on it).

For all their quality games, Nintendo is one publisher.
When you weigh all third-party games in the industry, it's no contest.
But if you're talking about software on Nintendo hardware specifically, then it's easily the Nintendo games.

I don’t mind 3rd party. I have a few of them on Switch because that’s my primary console. That said, I mostly play Switch for the exclusives, like most people. However, I can’t say I don’t take advantage of the Sega Genesis NSO application, I’ve played tons of those games, especially Sonic 2. I also have Sonic Colors, Portal Companion Collection, Team Sonic Racing, Crash Bandicoot Trilogy and Undertale on there too, just games I haven’t played before, most of these games are older, so my system is devoid of 3rd party games. I play a fair blend of 1st party and 3rd party games on Switch, so my bias isn’t swayed either way. I’m just middle of the road on this.

Wait, why do we need a signature? Eh, I don’t know. Here’s your signature.

Thanks for the feedbacks here.
To see a lot of comments here, I can see peoples here still stuck on typical 3rd party games or still prefer 1st party Nintendo games.
I mean, nothing wrong to play 3rd party games like Skylanders, Epic Chef, Dodgeball Academia, Petz games, DDR, Nexomon, cartoon games by Outright Games, Kitaria Fables, etc.
Should I mention more interesting 3rd party games for you?

@TheBigBlue
Currently my Switch games will only consist 1st party Switch + 3rd party exclusives on Switch like games by Nippon Columbia + 1st / 3rd party remastered from older Nintendo games like Miitopia / Disney Magical World 2 / Dokapon Kingdom Connect / etc.
The reason I give those games for my Switch since 3rd party multi console games that also have PS4 / PS5 version, I will immediately pick the PS4 / PS5 version as those games have better performance / treatment than Switch version (cough.... Code in box / partial download / streaming only for Switch version, cough....) and it made me really disappointed with 3rd party multi console games on Switch got trash treatment like that so whenever I saw upcoming 3rd party games, I will check for PS4 / PS5 version possibility.
Beside, my PS4 & PS5 games are 99.99% really depended on 3rd party multi console games. Without them, I will only have 1 game, just Ratchet & Clank games.
And for 3rd party games I played, I don't play like typical gamers here since I have very different gaming taste so the unpopular / niche games for kids are usually my choices since I don't really care with popularity or following trendy things.
I still have some hipster mindset, like to being different and i'm very selective in choosing the games for my collection. And that's why I have hype with Boxing while the majority peoples around me really dislike about Boxing.
I keep talking about K-1 games and how I really want them get HD gameplay on modern consoles (not that UFC games, I want K-1) while the world really hate my favorite things since almost everybody like soccer but I really hate soccer.

I loved Nintendo's own games in the SNES, N64 and GameCube eras, but I've started to prefer games that keep to the classic styles and principles. It's still worth me having the Switch as my main console though, as I love the hardware and the occasional 1st-party game such as Animal Crossing.

To me, the best "major" game on Switch is Dragon Quest XI. I know I could play it on PS4, but I prefer the portability. The other games I've enjoyed the most are the genuine retro titles, such as Arcade Archives, and retro-styled releases such as Streets of Rage 4. I'm not complaining as I spend more time on my Switch than I ever have on anything else, it's just that I tend to prefer the slightly less major, downloadable titles nowadays.

Actually, I'll be willing to play more third-party games if they're not frustratingly hard like Cuphead. Boy, did I waste twenty bucks believing I'd get better in the boss fights.

First party games are much better than 3rd party games. That’s not to say that 3rd party games suck, but I find first party games usually have better quality.

Currently playing: Pokemon Soul Silver, Mario RPG

@blindsquarel
I have different experience with 1st party Nintendo games as much I like to play some of them, but I still prefer 3rd party games for offering something more than 1st party Nintendo games have.
For example 3D Mario games, I genuinely don't really have much hype with Mario Galaxy games as the games felt harder than the 3rd party 3D platformer 3rd party games I have ever played such as Ice Age, Robots, Kao the Kangaroo, etc.
And for kart racing games, as much as I have interest with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but I have more interest with 3rd party kart racing games such as Racing with Ryan, Team Sonic Racing, Skylanders Superchargers, Paw Patrol Grand Prix, etc because they offered something different, something je ne sais quoi that made me more interested than Mario Kart games.
I don't stick on one franchise only since I can get bored easily so I open my heart and mind from other 3rd party games with similar genre to enrich my gaming experience.
And I already did from Nexomon for example as Pokemon alternative games.

Well if we're going by pure statistic I guess my play data suggests I prefer 3rd party games more seeing some of my favorite franchises of all time (Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter, SMT) out numbering Nintendo ones. But even then I don't think I can't definitively say whether I prefer one or another of course there are going to be 1st party games I like or otherwise I probably wouldn't be here.

This may be a cop out answer but:

I don't think so.
There are some 3rd party games that have more potential than certain of 1st party Nintendo games.
Peoples just still closed minded to accept the diversity of 3rd party games.
The fun of video games are not conducted by typical Mario or zelda games all the time.
There are more genre diversity games that made 3rd party games more fun to play.

I can grant you maybe the Switch's entire third-party library is better than the first-party library, maybe. But I'm speaking in broad strokes for Nintendo platforms.
Even if the Wii U wasn't Nintendo's finest hour for first-party games, do you really prefer its entire third-party library to its first-party? Do you prefer the N64's third-party to its first-party?

"Do you really prefer its entire third-party library to its first-party?"

Well, definitely I enjoy more the 3rd party games on Wii U than 1st party Wii U games despite I have more 1st party Wii U games than the 3rd party games. The reason was the 3rd party still offered me for diversity genre and different gameplay. There are LEGO CITY UNDERCOVER, Skylanders games, Barbie, Transformers, ESPN Sports Connection, Game Party, etc. But there are some 3rd party games I decided to pick the PS3 / PS4 version instead of Wii U version due the chance of getting them on PlayStation version and the gameplay without using Gamepad.
I still rarely to play my 2D Mario game on Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Wii Fit U, Zelda Wind Walker HD, etc as I didn't really invested by those games and I quickly get bored with them if I played too long so I tend to play them in very short time.

"Do you prefer the N64's third-party to its first-party?"

I don't play N64 games but I played PS1 games and I grew up by 3rd party PS1 games during my teenhood such as DDR, FF VIII, FF IX, Bishi Bashi, Chocobo Racing, Pocket Fighter, Magical Drop 3, Pepsiman, Punky Skunk, etc.
Even I already grew up, I still don't have any interest to play with N64 games due to archaic looking 3D models, the uncomfortable N64 controller design compared with PS1 controller, more genre & franchises diversity on PS1.
I still don't like Mario 64, Mario Kart 64.
I have zero interest with zelda N64 games, donkey Kong 64 games, star fox 64 games, etc.
I have different life experiences and opportunity so don't blame me for liking 3rd party games more than 1st party Nintendo games since I don't stick on same franchises all the time.
I didn't say 1st party Nintendo games by collectively are suck but I felt the diversity from 3rd party games impressed me more and I grew up by them.

There is no denying the quality of Nintendo games, it's almost always very high. But there are quality 3rd party games too.

For me? It depends on the genre. RPGs? More than likely 3rd party. I'm currently playing Harvestella and I just finished Yokai Watch. Other than Pokemon, I haven't played any Nintendo RPGs, if Pokemon even really counts as a Nintendo RPG. (I probably should at least play Fire Emblem). Platformers? More than likely 1st party. I've been playing Kirby Planet Robobot and I just finished Captain Toad. The only platformer I played that I really liked that isn't a Nintendo game was Sly Cooper.

So I guess the answer for me is both. No reason to limit yourself to one or the other.

All fair, I wasn't trying to judge you. You just seem to have an uncommon and more unique perspective.
Both anecdotally and en masse, many people buy Nintendo hardware for the first-party games. They don't care enough about third-party games when they make a Nintendo system their primary or sole platform.
I buy Nintendo platforms for the first-party games and I buy PlayStation for the third-party games and some of the first-party games.

As long as the game is fun it doesn't matter to me who makes it.

This fire is burning and it's out of control. It's not a problem you can stop it's Rock and Roll!!!

Eh it doesn’t matter. If the game is fun then I don’t care who makes it.
