I've been thinking of getting a PS3 for a long time, but now I'm tempted to get a 3DS.
On the one hand, the 3DS is cheaper, it's newer, and it's a handheld, which I'm a big fan of. Unfortunately, there aren't many games for the 3DS that I want, but it would give me access to DSiWare. However, I'm not sure how the 3D gimmick will hold up, seeing as I ended up not liking the Wii's motion controls and the DS' touch screen, both of which seemed far more significant.
On the other hand, there's the PS3, which costs a bit more, has been around for so long for all we know it's on its way out, and is a very traditional system. I'm not as big a fan of console gaming, and I am running out of room to put a new console, meaning I'll probably have to put a console back in storage. As far as games go, there aren't many for the PS3 that I want, only about 20 at the most, but that's still far greater than the 3DS which there are only about 6 or 7 games that interest me. Plus I'll be able to play my 40+ PSOne classics on my TV with a proper controller. It'll also make for a good Blu-Ray Player, which I could really use.
So there's my connundrum. Anybody have any advice?
As I hate to say, if you need that Blu Ray, PS3, you can always wait for the 3DS. Or buy nothing, and wait a bit and then get the 3DS, after more games have come out.
If you don't already have a Blu Ray player, then I'd go for the PS3.
Alternatively (unless the money is burning a hole in your pocket) you could wait until decent games start coming out for the 3DS and all of it's functionality (browser, 3DS-ware, etc) is patched in.
Alternatively still: stash away the money and use it on an NGP when they're released in the fall (hopefully).
From the sounds of it I'd recommend the 3DS but maybe not immediately. May might be a good time, that's when the eShop launches giving you the DSiware as well and of course Dead or Alive!

Would it be a good idea for me to list the games I'm interested it? Well, I'll do it anyways, I love lists:
3DS:
Tales of the Abyss 3D Mega Man Legends 3 Paper Mario 3D Kingdom Hears 3D: Dream Drop Distance Kid Icarus Ridge Racer 3D Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition Resident Evil: Revelations Shantae Cave Story Super Mario Land Dragon's Crystal
PS3:
Tales of Graces f Final Fantasy Versus XIII Ratchet & Clank Future series 3D Dot Game Heroes Atelier Rorona Demon's Souls Yakuza 3 & 4 Disgaea 3 & 4 ModNation Racers Folklore Uncharted 1 & 2 Killzone 3 inFamous Heavy Rain Resistance 2 Final Fantasy XIV Free Realms Arcana Hearts 3 The PixelJunk series Wipeout HD 30+ PSOne classics
Tough choice,I'm not sure my self. Well, you did say the Ps3 may be on it's way out. Which means if that's the case, you could get it and some successor or something could be announced/hinted at. With the 3DS there shouldn't be a new version for at least a solid 2 years. If you don't have a Blue-ray player a Ps3 might be the better choice. Although they eventually they will both have Netflix and you could see 3D movies on the 3DS. The fact it's a portable also makes me want to suggest the 3DS more. With all the games announced so far I'm sure it'll get more games you like not too later on.,but if the PS1 games are really good games you love I'd be desperate to play them and would probably get a PS3...hmm. Well with the potential, portability,Netflix, and Virtual Handheld(in May) I'd say start saving for a 3DS,but don't get one till at least a few more games that you like are announced. If none are, go for the PS3. I've played both for a long time and it is a close call, but I personally would get a 3DS.
I'd say go with a PS3 for now and get the 3DS later. You will really enjoy having a Blu Ray player and the library of games on the PS3 is very strong. By the time you have saved up for a 3DS there will be a good amount of titles to choose from and most of the launch titles should be cheaper. Who knows, maybe by then the 3DS will have dropped in price and there could be some new system colors as well. Also, think about all those PSN classics that you could be enjoying on the PS3.
If you have a 360 or don't care about 360 games, 3DS easily. Otherwise...tough choice...but either one works I guess...wait wait 3DS has Layton vs. Wright, a new Paper Mario and MML3, 3DS wins end of story.
Actually, best idea. Get a PS2 and get a 3DS when the price first drops.
Pick up a PS2 used for $50-$70, has a lot more (And better) games then the PS3, and all models actually have backwards compatibility (LIke the PS3 should, but doesn't). Then you can also afford a 3DS.
