It's kinda sad comments for the article have to be disabled, but I get it, since stuff like this is like a magnet for the internet bigots.
Anyway, as I can't write this in the comment section, I just wanted to thank Kate Gray and the NL staff for publishing and updating the list. Articles like this are awesome for people like me who want to play good video games with inclusive content, and throughout the years I've discovered more than one great game because of your list. So thanks!
@Polvasti It's an unfortunate price of being a world wide internet site. You could still use the NL contact button to thank them via editorial or reader letter.
I saw the annual Pride game list this morning and sadly wasn’t surprised comments were disabled from the get-go. It must be exhausting for the mods to catch and delete all the needless hate. Seriously, a downtrodden minority celebrate being themselves once a year, and the haters howl like it’s Armageddon. This tired cycle repeats every June.
What happened to “Live and let live?”
Anyway, I’m grateful for the representation and still welcome a diversity of people and viewpoints, as unfashionable as certain supremely insecure conservative elected officials have made that lately.
Thank you to @KateGray and the staff of NL for the encouragement today! ❤️🌈

@Polvasti Thank you for making this thread. I understand why they locked comments, but I was also very sad to see it.
I've also found some games I really like in previous updates to this article. I appreciate it existing even if it's a little sad not to be able to discuss in the comments section.
Think I'll celebrate gaming pride month. I'm certainly proud to be a gamer and honestly that is something worth celebrating. Every time i see an article on here that they know they're gonna have to block comments on i just have to ask why bother? I'll just roll my eyes and say whatever. You do you and I'll do me mkay?
Anyway, sadly, that (and this) kind of snark only escalates, and eventually you get actual hate and vitriol being thrown around. I can absolutely understand why would they prefer to keep the comment section turned off.
Would be nice to keep it away from the forums, wouldn’t it?
@Eel
I just don't get why they have to bring that kind of topic into a gaming forum in the first place. Not trying to be offensive but if they want to discuss sexuality or political correctness there's plenty of other non gaming sites where those things can be discussed and they won't have to block comments on every article either. I mean there's children present duh!
@Truegamer79 That article isn't really discussing sexuality or politics, it's a list of 'hey, if you belong to this particular fairly large minority of people, maybe you will appreciate one of these high quality games, possibly because you will feel like you are represented in the game'. If it wasn't for people jumping into the comments with random hatred, the comments would literally just be a nice chat about those games with the standard complaints of 'why didn't you add this other game to the list'.
Fundamentally, this is a website for games so the site should be able to list and talk about games which will appeal to all different types of people, not only particular subsets of people.
Note that Nintendo Life has other 'best of' lists for topics like romance and you don't see the comments filled with people saying how revolting it is to bring sexuality into gaming on those lists.
@Truegamer79 The majority of the games on the list don't have any sexual content in them. Many straight and cis people seem to have this weird idea that being queer is all about sex, whereas being straight apparently has absolutely nothing to do with it. Like FishyS said, there are plenty of articles on this site that talk about straight romance in games (such as the relationship between Link and Zelda), and you don't see any of them flooded with comments like "why do you have to talk about this sexual stuff?" or "there's children present here!". That's a silly double standard.
@Truegamer79 Its because those articles will get alot of views but they dont want to deal with the comments. Its all about generating alot of views and traffic to tbe site.

@Tasuki The LGBTQ articles don't actually get a lot of views, you can you check the "Most Read" bar to see they never make it there. The articles are just to serve the niche audience for them the same way they do articles on zombie games or Disney games for people seeking them.
The comments are disable because well, there are a lot of gross users on the site sadly. Personally I'd keep the comments open, let people debate it out and let the unpleasant people reveal who they are.
@Truegamer79 Well done on being American but do you realise this is a British site and your Avatar is of a Japanese developed games console though?
I should just copy+paste the most generic news updates about Switch 2 on this site. That way it will be a political and sexual Switch 2 update, because I posted it.
In the Celeste entry it says "Maddy Thorson — the game's director and designer, who is non-binary — confirmed that Madeline herself is trans". But isn't Maddy Thorson trans, not non-binary? The Medium article by Maddy herself (linked to in that section) says "It has also become painfully obvious to me that I, myself, am trans". Not sure if any staff member will see this to make a correction, but I wanted to mention.
I was going to comment this on the article, but since comments are disabled this is as good a place as any.

It is very common to consider non-binary a type of trans identity, so she could easily be both.
