Topic: Should I exchange my PS4 for a Switch?

Posts 1 to 20 of 20

I have an opportunity to exchange my current console that is just piling up dust, for a nice Switch with a lot of games. Should I do it or wait and sell it to buy the Switch Pro afterwards? I really want a Switch but 20 FPS doesn't sound so good to me.
Is the FPS so bad on Switch?
Should I better wait a bit and get a premium Switch experience?
Help me out with your thoughts guys!
P.S. No, I couldn't get a Switch now to just sell it after 2-3 months, on our market (MD) it would mean a loss of 40-50$ if a Pro comes out

@NightSkyTraveler If you don't use your ps4 then I say go for it, there is the hard to get ps5 but I bet by the time you want it will be in stock, the switch is worth it, and there is no real date for the pro so it could come out in the next two years for all we know. I hope this helps with your choice.

Your PS4 is losing more value than a Switch is so I wouldn't be concerned with that and you seem hung up on the Switch Pro which probably isn't even real or wont come out for a good while.

@NightSkyTraveler
Keep your PS4 for the games that exclusively on PS4.
Nothing wrong to have both PS4 and Switch together.

But there seems to be a lot of rumors lately, I might be new to Nintendo, so I don't know if I should really rely on these news. Should I? Also, if you have a Switch, is the FPS so bad? I am very much comfortable with 30 fps, no doubts here, but are those 20 FPS dips so visible?

@NightSkyTraveler
Only for certain Switch games the FPS could drop into 20 FPS.
Yeah, it's visible.
But don't worry. There are some Switch games that running on 60 fps like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, Super Mario Oddysey, etc.

Better keep your PS4.
You can buy Switch games for 1st party & Switch Exclusives 3rd party while you can keep continue adding 3rd party for PS4 and PS4 exclusives.

I'd swap the ps4 for the Switch, I own both and hardly touch the ps4 , there have been lots of rumours of improved switch hardware but to me the original is good enough, I can't think of any game I've played where the frame rate bothered me.

I’d sell the PS4 and wait for the Nintendo NXPro

You're asking on a Nintendo forum so most replies will be to get the Switch.

A few things to think about:
If money is an issue for you, games cost a lot more on Switch and you don't get decent sales or offers like you would on other consoles.
Third party games like Doom or Witcher will.never run as well.as they do on other systems but are portable.
The online is lacking and is miles behind the other systems and there are hardly any online focused games.

Yes, the switch is great, and the FPS is hardly a thing you would care about in game.

Fire Emblem Three Houses is my favorite game
Ashe is the best character in FE:3H
Waluigi For Smash
The game I want most on switch is a new WarioWare (Welp. we got that!)
My favorite movie is Toy Story 3

@NightSkyTraveler I'm keeping my expectations low for a revised Switch, which is rumored for late March 2021. But if you can wait, maybe it will worth it? Note: last year, around this time, people joined the forum asking if they should wait until spring to buy a rumored revised switch in spring 2020, which never happened.

When the Switch V2 came out, with the better battery life (same battery, but new hardware/chip uses half the power), I think I recall people were able to trade in their existing switch and upgrade to the new console for $100 USD? Granted, that was here in the US

I thought it would be a great idea to get a Switch. As even if a Pro version is to come out in march, I would get it at a reasonable price in june, by this time the PS4 would be worth a 100$ I guess. I have beaten TLOU 1/2, Shadow of Collosus and now I guess it's time for Mario and Age of Calamity Thank you guys for your support!

If you aren't using your PS4, then I would. And don't waste your time waiting for rumours. Life is too short and you won't regret playing Mario. Heck, you'll join the rest of us trying to will an upgrade in to existance lol!

Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone,

@NightSkyTraveler Regarding "a reasonable price in june", If a new Switch console launches, don't expect it to get a sale price until at least fall/winter of 2021, if not longer. I think the launch Switch only got an occasional, very brief, price reduction $275 USD $300 after Switch V2 console came out summer of 2019 (1.5 years later). And the Switch V2(the current Switch) never drops below $300 USD. Nintendo keeps tight control on pricing.

@WoomyNNYes I live in Moldova, here we don't have an official Nintendo dealer, only resale in big markets with a huge tax added, here a regular switch is $500 while on our site like eBay you can find a new one for $300 that was brought from abroad. So, if you think about it, someone might get in a bunch of Pro's and sell for say $400 not for $700 like it will be in our ``beloved`` stores.

@Gwynbleidd I enjoyed BOTW using CEMU, I can't express it, no game has ever made me feel so invested in a world. 30 fps, ugly lines across textures, constantly rendering cache textures didn't matter, going out into the jungle harvesting durians was my favourite activity, exploring mountains, shrines, it was just magical After so many years of shooters it felt nice.Cyberpunk, even on PC went over my head, BF1, 5 and 4 aren't so fun as they used to be, I found myself playing a lot of indie games recently and the only game I nearly enjoyed as BOTW was Shadow of Colossus and that's it.
Games price doesn't really matter because account sharing and game exchange is very wide spread in Moldova so no doubts, I'll have the games. I was just wondering because as you said it's a banana and an apple, but for me it seems like I don't like apples anymore, but I am afraid I won't like bananas as much.

@NightSkyTraveler Switch Pro rumors have been going on for 3 years now. I’m not saying a pro won’t happen, but people will continue to say it will happen no matter what. I will say that not every game on Switch is like BotW. The minority games are like it honestly. There probably will be enough content that you would like to justify the trade, but there might not be as much as the PS4 has.

@Gwynbleidd @Blooper987 Is the PS4 library so extensive as you say? I had played all the mainstream games here and can really say that it is like a factory of shooters that have a few more polygons than the other one and that's it. I feel like Switch is more unique isn't it? I have well enough time to play, but there is not so much interesting. Death Stranding, TLOU 1/2, Shadow of Collosus and BF1 are the different and unique games that I enjoyed.Age of Calamity, all the Mario games (I have never tried one), Xenoblade, Monster Hunter Rise, (the upcoming Zelda anniversary remasters) are the only games I might enjoy? I liked Terraria, Noita, Spiritfarer and other indie games so maybe the Switch library might not be so intimidating to the PS4 one for me. Now that you know what I tried & enjoyed or want to try, you might tell me if the Switch library is worth it.
