Topic: How do you block/ignore other users?

There are a few keyboard warriors here, childish people who attack or criticise other people because they have different opinions to theirs and it can get annoying. How do you ignore those people? You see it all over the internet on many forums and many have a ignore feature. I realise with Nintendo it can mean younger users on forums who have no manners or understanding of respect for others and it just becomes very tiring. It's clear some of the forum members must be very young so fair enough but personally I just want to deal with forum members respectful of others to discuss Nintendo gaming related content in a civil manner. Ideally like other forums where you see nothing at all from such members once you block/ignore them. So they can carry on venting their spleen on trivia and you are blissfully unaware of their nonsense. As far as I can tell there is no or little policing of these forums for automatic removal of such people. I've had a look but couldn't find the block/ignore feature but perhaps I've missed it but it certainly isn't easy to find.

@BonzoBanana At the bottom of every article comment or at the top of every forum post you should see options to Reply, Report and Ignore.

Ignore is exactly the one you're looking for!

@Nintoz Great thanks very much. In fact much easier than most other forums I frequent where the ignore feature is much more hidden. You have to go to their profile and find a very small option to ignore them. I can't believe how simple and well done it is on this forum actually.

@BonzoBanana You'd be surprised to learn that most of them are over 30 years old. Ignoring them is the best you could do.

@Banjo- Some of them are in their 40s and 50s too! There was definitely an influx of trolls after the Switch 2 launch, but thankfully a few of them have calmed down or given up and moved on, when they realise their shenanigans aren't as tolerated around here as much as on other sites.

How are we collecting the data on the age of this demographic?

@WiltonRoots Yeah, I realise when they talk about the age of their sons or whatever, so no 13 years old despite what they write. For the record, some are anti-Nintendo and some are pro-Nintendo, so it's just the way they are whether they like something or not. The best people can do is ignore them because it's a waste of time that you could spend talking with people with whom you may have decent conversations, regardless of they liking the same things or not. 😊

I never understood the feature myself. If you want a curated feed that's tailored to you then use any number of those social media sites. Where there are literal silos of algorithm driven groupthink (and rage)

The whole point of a forum is that you get to see people more as they are. The whole range of thought largely as is. Features like blocking and ignoring dilutes that. IMO

Although I also know that my general positive sentiments about just about every gadget, gizmo and software release does rub some the wrong way. Especially when combined with my technical pedantry

IIRC I'm fairly sure @BonzoBanana did block me for saying Switch 2 is technically better than Steam Deck in some respects but worse in others. And that both have their strengths and weaknesses, both have their place. That's why this thread exists. Fair to say I think it's a bit dramatic

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions

@skywake The problem is today's society. They want that cushion so all they get is people agreeing with them. They are not interested in a sensible debate they just want people to say yes and your right and give them a pat on the back. The moment you disagree with them or call them out on something they instantly want to ignore you cause well let's be honest they cant handle the truth.

To many people use forums nowadays as their personal soapbox or expect it to be their personal soapbox when in fact that's what a blog site or social media site is for but somewhere at some point people particularly the younger generation started thinking that forums and social network sites like Facebook, Twitter etc are one and the same. I cant tell you many times I see a post and someone saying well Facebook does this why doesnt Nintendolife. Because ones a social network and one is gaming news site with forums.

I use the ignore feature to block those who seem to post on every article either to claim 'first!' or just for the sake of attention, while not actually saying anything meaningful or even related to the topic. For that, I'm grateful of the feature. 😅

@Uncle_Franklin Good question!

That reminds me of those that troll users asking for help on Gamefaqs although that is much worse and really deserves bans to clean that useful source of questions and answers.
