Is it just me or do these new entries in the GG series look... A lot cheaper than the previous ones?
I saw them in the eshop and much to my surprise their screenshots and even the top-screen banners are literally just low res photos of screenshots (pixels and all). Like, woah, one of them even has a bit of dirt under the title! ("exciting river"). It's like the developer didn't try at all.
I had no idea Nintendo was so relaxed with that kind of thing.
Anyway, I still bought one (Hero Puzzle) for some reason. It's my first GG Series game and, well, it's better than I expected.
It's strangely adorable and I really like it. It's a rather simple puzzle-rpg, you go matching falling pieces of equipment to defeat random enemies until a boss appears and then you advance to the next area with stronger enemies.
It's so simple, and yet rather charming.
I have no interest in the other titles they released, but I guess this thread is here if anyone wants to talk about them.
The WonderLand game wasn't too good. I may pick up one or two of these, but I'm keeping my expectations low. I wish there was some footage of the games rather than just blurry screenshots.
Decided to pick up Exciting River on a whim. So far it has exceeded my expectations. A good fit for for DSiWare, trying to best top scores and the like. Not bad for just $1.99.
Are there any reviews for the new games yet? I'm thinking of getting Assult Weapon and Altered Weapon, I think they're called but I definitely need some reviews first.
I got some older ones and wasn't impressed. Even for $2 pick-up-and-play games, they weren't very fun or...well made. But I'm tempted by some of the new ones, they definitely seem better than before just based on their descriptions and feedback.
Huh, Nintendolife did a first impressions of Assault Buster all the way back in 2010. It barely does anything other than describe the game, but there's no complaints so I they must have liked it.
I remember these games were usually well received.
Edit: it seems they have first impressions for most of the games from 2010. Including the recent ones. I guess they're kinda like mini reviews.
Edit 2: oh hah, they even have impressions for the retail release "G.G. Series Collection +", Which aparently comes with 30 of these mini games. Too bad that never got out of Japan.
Haven't posted here in a bit, but I did buy a few more of the G.G series games. I didn't care for Shadow Army (boring) but both Great Whip Adventure & Air Pinball Hockey get my recommendation.
