DS Lite may have GBA, but you can't do GBA multiplayer with a DS Lite.

DSi + GBA SP = Perfect combo

I second that. I play GB/GBC/GBA games on my SP, and DS/DSiware games on my DSi. I hardly ever use my Lite anymore.

Here is what the DS has over the DSi:
-GBA slot

Here is what the DSi has over the DS:
-2 Cameras
-Double the processing speed (133 MHZ)
-Four times the RAM
-DSiWare
-New GUI
-View and edit photos and upload them to Facebook
-Listen to music, or play around with it with filters and pitch/tempo adjustment
-Record and edit sounds (Fitlers, etc.)
-Flipnote Studio!
-Far better browser
-SD card slot
-Updatable firmware (To add even more features!)

Honestly?

I've got nothing against the GBA - but, to me, it makes far more sense to either invest in a GBA (or, better yet, GBA Micro) and GBA games, or a DSi - which is the future of the DS brand. DSiWare will continue to be supported, and not just with puzzle games, and there will be DSi-specific retail releases.

There is very little reason to buy a new DS Lite new, and there is plenty enough reasons to justify the purchase of the DSi for its features - now or in the future.

I'll ignore the initial N64 point since the circumstances really aren't similar at all making for a poor point.

The DSi most likely won't last long, sure there will be DSiWare but by the end of next year, a new handheld should be out, it'll retain the DSiWare releases, except it'll be a significant upgrade, meaning people will actually develop games for it.

Realistically, how many DSi-only games will be released? So far the only ones have been centered around gimmicks. The majority of DS games are running well below what the DS is capable of anyways, its not like developers are craving more power and eager to hop aboard the slight advantage of the DSi. I don't really expect DSi games to go beyond being gimmicks myself, since everyone else won't use the slight extra power, since it's unneeded, and there's no reason to alienate a massive percentage of the DS install-base.

The DSi is but a small stepping stone, just look at Nintendo's own treatment of it, they're the leader in producing shovelware for it.

Okay, i decided on a Dsi. i'll probably trade my Ds lite to gamestop for an extra $35.00 trade-in credit.

Why would anyone hang onto an N64 anyway? I generally try not to remember that era of gaming.

N64 was epic. Rare was epic.

yea Rare made some pretty epic games at the time my personal favorite was banjo kozoie others liked golden eye and perfect dark. nintendo is just begging for the return of Rare sence they went off to microsoft

I say the DSi is only better if you have Wi-Fi, and money.
I know that the camera and sound system look awesome, they get old way to fast. If I didn't have wi-fi, I would have never made the switch.

Yeah, i (Obviously) have WI-FI, and i have a GB mini. but the DSi is pretty expensive...i'd still need $107.00...

What about the DSi browser, how well does that work. and how many websites can it go to.

Cringing is really fun.

I don't know about a lot of people, but I use the camera and sound apps a lot...... I replaced my iPod because I prefer carrying my game system over a music device in my ever stuffed purse. However, the DSi solved my dilemma. I prefer the DSi camera over my cellphone because of the better screens, ability to hold waaaaaaaaay more pictures, a faaaaaar more usable UI, and incredible battery life. The cellphone camera is relegated to whenever I need to send a photo of something to someone immediately. (The cellphones with a good UI, incredible screens, and more capacity are usually a minimum of $400 with terrible battery life and getting interrupted while snapping a photo as a consequence. shrug Not worth it to me.)

I am also a fan of the apps. I like the cute look of the AC clock and calculator. (And I use them both pretty often.) I use myNotebook regularly for quick jots of things I think I won't need in a short time (such as To Do and shopping lists and small reminders) and thus would not like to add another slip of paper to search for, and Art Academy and Flipnote are fun to doodle around in. The browser is quite usable and essential to me in a pinch since I don't lug a computer with me everywhere. It can go to almost any website with exceptions being flash sites mostly... Gmail can be used with the mobile or HTML versions. Have to say that I wish I had a Mifi or hope that Nintendo develops something like what Amazon did with the Kindle as I once read is a consideration for future handhelds.

The games are fun timewasters, too. My favorites, admittedly, are still cartridge-based games; but I find myself playing Digidrive a LOT.

I don't miss the GBA slot. I haven't touched too many GBA games since the DS first came out. So...the biggest concern for me was the transfer of Pokemon using Pal Park.

Overall, the DSi has been a wonder for me. It's not quite totally there in the realm of perfect; but it just took a gigantic step in that direction.

It's also sloooooooow. Hope your favorite sites have a 'mobile' or 'slow connection' option :3

I would recommend to anyone a DS lite over a DSi if they didn't have wireless Internet. No internet = No Flipnote or any DSiWare-selling points of the DSi. To anyone who has any version of the DS(minus DSi of course) I would say to keep it. The only reason I got a DSi is because my DS "phat" broke. I do have a SP, so I needn't worry about the whole GBA thing(it also plays GB&GBC games). Go out and get a cell phone if you want a camera with the same resolution, and portable Twitter. You can even go anywhere with a cellphone that has internet capabilities, while you can only go to places that have Wi-Fi if you have a DSi. Buy an ipod if you want to listen to music. This is all my opinion, so don't get mad at me!

Overall, I would say the DSi is aimed toward kids(duh), who want to have a camera which they can edit the photos after they take them, a recording device in which they can morph their voices, and a device for playing games all in one. It's obviously not made for professional photographers, or music lovers. So it is your opinion whether the DSi is for you or not.

Btw, the music player is not a MP3 player, it's a MP4 player.

Sure, you can buy an iPod and a Camera Phone, but can you get BOTH for under $170?

I'm pretty okay.

good point also MP4 is a hi-definition format and it has alot better sound quality then MP3. other than the dsi does not have cover flow ( which could be done in a simple firmware update) So i would say the dsi is a great device for music lovers

i also want to know, if on the dsi shop can you buy just 500 points rather then 1000, 2000, 5000 (etc.)?

No. They only have 20$ (2000 points) actual cards or 1000 (10$), 2000 (20$), 3000 (30$), or 5000 (50$) purchasable in the Nintendo DSi Shop by credit card.

I'm quite sure that Cover Flow is a patent by Apple, Inc. only for use in iPod touch devices, iPhones, iTunes, and Mac computers. Nintendo couldn't do it unless they won a patent case, and that won't happen.

That's alienated in the "opinion" category. There are some great ones, such as Art Academy and Digidrive and PiCTOBiTS and Starship Defense and Mighty Flip Champs and Flipnote Studio and Trajectile and Dark Void Zero and.. you get the idea. There are so many amazing titles, lots of greats, some good, but a lot of them just really suck in all plain vanilla. I think it's worthwhile, especially with some big titles coming such as Shantae, Flight Control, Ghostwire, Fieldrunners, AiRace, and others. I've already spent 50$ so I'm pretty happy with it; I just wish they had more free stuff.

Almost all dsi ware at the momment is for short gaming sessions, something that really appreciate.
I also have a DSlite, but i barely touch it now, i have grown attached to the DSi, more than to any handheld before (my family tends to get attached to material possessions easily...).
I have spent so much time in my finely selected collection of dsiware lately that i didnt even bothered to check the DS games last christmas, and being the compulsive buyer i am (thats in my genetics too~), thats saying a lot.

So i think dsiware is worth it, but, well... thats me, you may think its not.
I already have my GB Micro(<3) for playing GBA, and two quite old GBA SPs for pokemon and GBC, so i dont really need the GBA slot. It actually makes me glad i didnt bought Guitar Hero, though.

... Music player? ipods are bad for your ears! if you want one, go buy the new one with speakers, because using headphones for more than 2 consecutive hours is B-A-D. luckily the dsi has speakers, is not like i use it much for listening music, though.

@theblackdragon: It fits my pocket perfectly!
