Topic: Should I Get ART STYLE: AQUIA?

Ok, so I like games like bejewled and I recently was looking at Aquia, and it seems to be along the same concept, whats holding me back is the difficulty. I was wondering if I wouldnt be able to finish the game because of its diffuculty. If anyone has the game and could help me out please do. I just am not very good at "difficult" games, and I was wondering if anybody had this same problem, or if anybody would recommend this game, or if I should wait for Decode or Kubos?

It's very hard. If you intend to "complete" it, you're probably not going to be satisfied. If you want a lovely, challenging, mood-based experience, it's a great buy.

I, personally, love it. But I'd be lying if I didn't say it becomes ridiculously challenging by level 5 or 6...and that's not far along.

is it along the same concept as bejeweled? what is the control scheme? how are the controls?

Why don't you read the review? That should answer some of your questions. I like the game, but it's certainly not for everyone.

It's not the same concept as Bejeweled, really, but comparisons to other "match x" games are unavoidable.

Basically you move your piece around (it's either a horizontal rectangle, vertical rectangle, or square, based on the level of difficulty) and stick it into the tower a la Jenga. Whatever you displace comes out the other side, and then you need to place that somewhere, displacing something else.

The more colors you match (or chains you create) the further down the little diver guy goes. If he reaches the bottom of the screen before he runs out of oxygen, the level is complete.

Very simple controls (D pad and one button) so you'll be comfortable with it inside of about 5 minutes' playtime. The music is fantastic, and each level's new theme is an excellent reward in itself.

Aquia is great, but Pictobits I prefer. Both are hard, but Aquia is more about beating your high score, so challenge in completion really isn't an issue. Pictobits is hard, but completing the regular levels isn't what makes it hard, its the insanely challenging Dark levels.

If you want puzzle cheap, accessible, pick-up-and-play, challenging games for your DSi, these are them.

I completely did not care about DSi until this game was announced. I still haven't given in to the urge, but I've been wanting the system just for Aquia a long while now. Blasted DSiWare. I miss having Art Style on WiiWare. I wonder if DSiWare is its new permanent home.

Come on, friends,

i bought Aquia, and i do not like it, to be honest. Pictobits/Picopict is much more fun and visually engaging to boot; if you're looking for something that will be both easy and difficult in turn (instead of just boring and difficult), get Pictobits instead.

If you want to comlete the game, tough tamales. I've only beaten two stages. But, that does not make the game bad. It's still fun. I always spend my time playing free mode, just go as long as you can to reach the highest score. That's the only mode I usually play. So that mode is like what you'd see in an arcade puzzle game. If you enjoy that, go for it, not bad of a choice. Although, either way, I'd go for PictoBits

I did manage to complete the game for all 30 levels, and I am not a regular puzzler fans.

I personally like it, and it's one of maybe two puzzlers i own. However, i haven't played any of the other ds Art Style games so...
Anyways, if you get caught on the difficulty, theres always the gamer-friendly endless dive.

I'm working on a game that's coming out soon!

PictoBits is good, but slightly overrated. The replay value doesn't really exist (for me) once you unlock all the songs and dark levels, which didn't take me long (about a week?).

It's definitely worth getting, but as a gameplay experience (as opposed to a leisurely stroll through nostalgic icons) it doesn't touch Aquia.

I agree with everything you've said here -- Aquia is a fantastic game, with wonderful music and a presentation that just makes it enjoyable to replay endlessly. As I've noted in other threads, it's really a treat if you hook it up to nice speakers and start timing your flipping / traversing the board along with the music, which, along with your chains, will produce an entirely unique musical experience each time you play.

I also agree that Pictobits, while very enjoyable, isn't nearly as good as Aquia in terms of basic replay value. Aquia is exactly what DSiWare should be, if you ask me. I don't know why it's taken such a back seat to games like MFC for so many on this site.

i've gotta say if i were to chose between aquia and pictobits i'd go with pictobits but then again my idea is pretty biased since i already have pictobits and to truly understand i would have to play aquia to so really i dunno? your on your own with this pal;)

The games worth waiting for are the best kinds.

bubby323

well, thanks everybody I had already bought Picto Bits, and I had had 500 points leftover that's why I asked. I'm still trying to decide if I should get Aquia, Dr. Mario, or Clubhouse Games??? And I have to agree with everybody who said PictoBits is a great game!

@ Pegasus I did read the review. I just was wondering how hard this game was, something Corbie didn't rlly touch on in the review!
