A trailer for it just came out. It is for the DS and looks like an action-adventure game, but i can't be sure.

That's a remake of Lufia 2? Huh?

Plain old gamer :)

It's a remake? Oh, I didn't know. lol I can't read Japanese so I have no clue what it says.

I hope it's a new game, since I'd rather they just rerelease Lufia 1 and 2 on Virtual Console. Still, judging from the trailer, it looks like it'll be bloody fantastic(and it actually showed a ton of gameplay instead of the story! That's a first for Squeenix as far as I know), so whatever it is, I'm excited for it!

Huh, interesting...I'm very glad it's on DS, but...I dunno, I would have liked a turn-based battle system. I'm weird like that. Ah well, still looks pretty cool, and I'll pick it up somewhere down the road, I'm sure.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Remake or not, that trailer just blew my mind! It looks freaking amazing!

I am really looking forward to play this game. I remember when Part 2 for the SNES came out. I bought it on the day of release.
In Germany it was the first Lufia game that came out, so it was only called Lufia, and not Lufia 2 -Rise of the Sinistrals. That was kind of stupid, because nobody had an idea what "Lufia" was... Anyway, one of the SNES gratest RPGs with a wonderful story.

Sequel in the series, around 5, same world, different characters and story. The action rpg approach looks good though, like Phantasy Star Zero...

Nah you're not weird Pheenie. That's how Lufia was born and in my opinion how it should it stay. The game does look good though.

Well, this I'm not so sure about...

...but it is good that someone agrees with me. It seems most people don't like a solid, old-fashioned turn-based battle system. I do, lots. shrug

It appears to be a remake of Lufia 2... to an extent. Clearly the whole game has been revamped and the only thing relative to Lufia 2 is Maxim and Serena, as introduced in the Trailer, and seemingly Guy, without any introduction. While the trailer-shown battle system for this new game seems less than desirable for hard-core Lufia fans who liked the battle systems of old, I for one would enjoy giving it a whirl. What really sells me on it is the breif window in the trailer in which Maxim faces off one-on-one with Gades.

As I stated from one of the many youtube posts of the above trailer,

"I hope this isn't an exact replica of the original Lufia 2, and has a completely different story arc. Some things seem very much the same, such as the flight to doom island, and definitely the two main characters, but I'd like to HOPE for some sort of epic conclusion... Or at least a final boss with kicking-awesome music. Really one of the things that put GBC's Lufia above Lufia 2 is the lack of final boss music, or any definite feel of "end game". L3 had Zalbak. And it was glorious."

Actually, while making this post and looking for my youtube comment, I came across some other things of notice, and it's highly likely this won't at all follow the Lufia 2 storyline. In fact, it might be possible that the Maxim and Serena characters are NOT the same pair as in Lufia 2. Screenshots and gameplay previews depict a large number of new characters that are unrecognizable from the original Lufia 2, as well as a party of 5 people at once during a gameplay video. Is it possible they're making a spin-off from Lufia 3's party system?

Less than a month to go, and I was permitted topic revival rights. I'll make one thing tl;dr clear:

This is not a remake

Yes it is

To be frank, none of those links confirm or deny it being a Remake. They all note the blatantly obvious Maxim, and speculate it as similar to Lufia 2. For crying out loud, read the 1up link again, bud.

... the game features him and his friends on a quest to uncover what lurks behind the Wave Device, an object that grants the user godlike powers.

When the heck did that happen in Lufia 2? If it's the main focus of the game, I can assure you the final product will be nothing similar to the original. It's a remake in the basic outline sense; but that would just mean Every Lufia was a remake (Except 4, which does not exist).

In short, No, not really

(The first one is not Bart, as "Berty" appears to be female in the game; and while not plot-breaking was never brought up.)
(The second I haven't a damn clue. She joins your party.)
(The third isn't Iris, and she joins your party as well.)

I'd guess the first is supposed to be Guy.
The second is Tia, but she looks nothing like the original.
The third is Selan, and she actually does seem to resemble the original art.
Compare to the SFC manual
(Maxim, Artea/Arty, Selan on the first page. Guy and Tia at the top, Hydecka/Dekar and Lexis at bottom of the second page.)

@ZarroTsu - All three of the links I posted call it a remake of Lufia II. Well the 1Up article calls it a "rebirth". It's a remake homie. I don't know why some re-designed characters screams "new game" to you but you're wrong. Nearly every "remake" of an old RPG now has new graphics and added material that wasn't in the original.

ZarroTsu

Yeah, okay fine. Crap. The whole thing has done nothing but confuse my opinions; but "Trailer 2" silenced any thoughts of a non-remake.

I feel like a douche now.

It's all good, bro. I think we can both agree that we are looking forward to this one.

Since Lufia II is the first game in the time-line, I'm hoping this is their way of re-launching the series. Hopefully the over-haul on the battle is done well and it sells like hot cakes so we can see more. I miss this series.

Agreed. I don't like the big change in the combat system, but if this is what it takes to revive one of my favorite series of all time, then it's all good. I will still support it with a day 1 purchase.

What? The character I thought was Selan actually is Iris according to the trailer.
I guess it's interesting if she is playable as "Iris" wasn't that significant of a character in the original.
(I guess I'll leave it that Iris is actually a more important character in the series in disguise.)
