Really. Today, i went to a special event organized by Nintendo España, where a lot of people could wacth in a theatre screen Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, the official movie made by Layton Team qhere (at least in Europe) will only come in DVD.
Going into the movie, it was very great. Judging by a Layton-fan eye, it's pretty close to the original games and the characters, even the secondary, were all great and funny.
Judging by a more standart eye, it is a good animation movie, except when they mix computer and traditional animation where they doesn't mix very well (some background people look extremely plastic and robotic). But with that problem, it is a good movie that deserves to be watched. Also, its clear that the story was based to be turn into a movie, not to be a game and turn it into a movie. Good action scenes, good adventure scenes, and very well made script (except for a very forced plot twist).
Deserved my time, and hope i can purchase my DVD copy someday to watch it again with my brother.
Well, there are a lot of good gamebased movie, but there all were anime adaptations (there are a few interesting Street Figther animes, the movie by Raul Julia was so bad and cheesy it was actually great and funny in their own way). This is more or less the same thing.
Also, the firts Tomb Raider movie was interesting, a little excuse just to eat popcorn, but watchable.
I really hope the Professor Layton movie comes out to North America someday. I'm hearing really good things about it. (That, and the Animal Crossing movie.) I'm glad you got to see it!
@zoipi: True, but I want to see if it comes here first. I could import the DVD, but I would probably have to deal with Region Issues. I might just end up watching the movie on YouTube, anyways.

What other anime video-game adaptions are any good? Most of the ones I've seen are pretty sub-par, and that includes the Street Fighter ones, except for the Street Fighter Cartoon series.
