The last time I played Pokemon I was in elementary school. My first game was the the Diamond one. I just got a DSI and I've been looking for some Pokemon Games. THEY ARE ALL SO EXPENSIVE!! Some of them have been out since 07 which surprises me because you'd think their prices would go down.

Anyways, I have a couple questions.

One, what is the cheapest site or place to buy them?

Two, Why are they so expensive?

Three, what is your favorite and why? I ask this question because I need some help finding one.

I love Diamond so any Pokemon games similar to that?

The older Pokemon games are always comparatively expensive compared with other games because they are always in demand (much like the issue with Contra for NES being priced much higher than it really should be on the secondary market). It doesn't really matter where you buy a copy — basically anywhere you try to buy them (unless you find them at a garage sale or goodwill or something) they will be similarly priced.

Okay. I figured they'd be cheaper because no one where I live at really plays them. I think it's great that they are in high demand because I always felt weird playing it, like if someone found out that I was playing it they would think I was a nerd. Also Pokemon, to me, sounds like a boy game, and since I'm a girl I figured that other girls would think that I was weird. I guess I'm just strange like that and confusing.

They are expensive because DS games are all discontinued/out-of-print and are now quite rare. If you want more affordable (and superior) games similar to Diamond, then I would suggest you get a 3DS or 2DS with any main series Pokémon game of your choice (X/Y/Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire/Sun/Moon).

Ebay is probably the cheapest place to get them. And don't worry, plenty of girls play Pokémon games.

eBay or gumtree I always see a load of Pokemon games available as people tend to buy a DS specifically to play Pokemon much like yourself I guess.
I'm not a Pokemon fan and when I was buying GBA systems kept picking up Pokemon games as they were the games sellers had for themso had to get rid of them. Still have Pokemon Blue GBA that I've never played and probs never will.

Be aware that if you buy online (especially via eBay), Pokemon games are probably at the forefront of games that are counterfeited, so make sure to get it from a reliable seller, and NEVER from a seller in China.

While some counterfeits will work fine, many/most have lackluster or weak batteries/save capabilities (so one day you'll fire up the game and all your data will be gone), and others will be glitch-ridden in such a way that it could work fine for a week or two, and then it will just stop working properly or at all.

Pokemon games experience a U curve when it comes to price.

At release they are as expensive as any other new game, few years later they get cheaper... But the older they get, they become collectors items and even used or bootleg, they're expensive.

As far as getting old, out of print Pokemon games, it's going to be tricky. I would go on eBay and just keep looking until you find a deal. It's going to take some doing, though, so be prepared to either search for a long time or settle for paying more than you'd like. If you just want Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, or Silver though, those are available on 3DS VC, so don't waste your time on those.

If you're looking for more games like Diamond, you probably won't like the recent games, they've become extremely dumbed down and don't really feel much like Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum in terms of size, scale, and content. The closest games to DPPt would be Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, OmegaRuby, and Alpha Sapphire, so I would get one of those. Emerald would be preferable because it has the most content, but if you can't get that game OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire aren't terrible games (just extremely disappointing to people that have played the originals).

A lot of the advice that you've received here already is good. If you can get a hold of Pokemon HeartGold or SoulSilver for a decent price, those are great games. However, they tend to be pretty pricey normally.

You could also upgrade to a 2DS or 3DS if that suits you. They would give you access to their excellent library of games as well as access to most DS games. The 3DS Virtual Console would give you access to Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow and Gold/Silver, and most of the mainline Pokemon games that were released for the system are decent (but not as good as Diamond, IMO, though I haven't played Sun/Moon yet) as well. I wouldn't pick up X/Y without doing your research on them, though; while not bad games on their own, they don't measure up well to the other games.

Don't let the opinions of others control what you play. Play the games you're genuinely interested in. Besides, I'd argue that since Pokemon Go hit the masses, the franchise as a whole has pretty much become mainstream at this point.

Pokemon is targeted towards both genders, even more so nowadays. There are plenty of girls/women out there that play the games, myself included. I've been playing the games for nearly sixteen years now, ever since I got a Game Boy Color and Pokemon Gold for my tenth birthday.

Good luck in your search!

Thank you for all the replies and tips. I have found some cheap sites that sell games, such as Glyde. The used Pokemon games are cheaper on Glyde than Ebay. There are other cheap games as well for the Nintendo.
