Better known as Retro Game Challenge 2, but it will not be seeing a release in the US, sadly. I finally just broke down and put in my order to import the game in and I will have it in a few weeks. I'm extremely excited to finally get this game in my hands and I got the last copy that play-asia had in stock.

Has anyone else imported this gem? The first Retro Game Challenge is an absolute gem for the DS and one I consider to be one of the best titles for the handheld. While the sequel is quite expensive to acquire and not in English I doubt many here will ever acquire it, but the original can be found dirt cheap, and grab it while you can still find it.

I would import it, but without knowing Japanese, I'd be lost on the secrets, the commentary, and the RPG would be totally unplayable. I suppose one could always play with a guide, but I tend to find that tiresome. I'll just wait for it to be translated one way or the other someday down the line.

@Mickeymac The only game that requires you to need a guide in hand constantly is the RPG. I'll get through that one for the real meat of the game, the platformers!

I'm the exact opposite. I only bought Retro Game Challenge for the RPG, and honestly I thought it was the only worthwhile game in the collection. The Platformers just got on my nevers and I never went to replay them. The Racing games were terrible and almost halted my progress full-stop. The shooters were okay, but nothing special. The RPG made going through those games worth it. It was more than just a nostalgia trip, it would've been top of the line stuff had it actually released in the '80s.

But with that said, what really made the game for me were the guide books. They were just like the old Nintendo Powers I used to read, filled with previews, tips, and secrets. It was just like being a kid again. I know the sequel is a different beast, but still, a lot of the charm for me would be lost without a translation.

It's definitely a game of nostalgic value. I absolutely love Haggle Man, and I did enjoy the RPG in the game as well. I'm a huge fan of old-school 2D Platformers, so this game is fantastic for my taste. I even sent XSEED an email about bringing the sequel over here to the US and NLife published an article on it.

I loved Retro Game Challenge! Even though I was born long after the NES area this is great fun. The one game I hated was that RPG. Man how could play a game like that!? I'm a little annoyed that the sequel is coming out, but maybe they do one for the 3DS and make the in game player put on some 3D glasses for retro games you could play in 3D.

Formally Square-enixFan, Neo-GeoFan. A lover of fine games and handheld systems!!!!!!!!!!
The New 3DS XL is amazing, soon the NX will be upon us!

I agree that it is indeed one of those overlooked DS gems that sadly didn't get much success. I absolutely LOVED Haggleman 1 (even though I could NEVER beat it without continues), and the RPG was pretty damn good as well. I really couldn't stand the repeat of the racing game and Haggleman 2, though. Those were bad, the former because it was more of the same and the latter because it was nearly impossible without continues/cheats. Unfortunately, the only ones I ever beat on it were Haggleman 1, Rally King, and Cosmic Gate. I don't think I ever completely beat any of the other ones.

Anyway, on my trip to Japan back in April, I tried looking for this one, but unfortunately it was sold out in every store I went. They didn't even have it at an electronics department store. So all I can say is that you're lucky you can even get your hands on it.

man i put a ton of time into the first--and a pretty substantive amount in on the second via.....well that's not important, but yes, while different presentation-wise, it's a blast

Oohhh, I'm loving this new iteration of the franchise!

I'm also putting together a Walk-through/Guide for the game as well.

Almost through with Retro Game Challenge. I played most of it last week on vacation. This game is awesome, and I am officially dismayed that the sequel is not coming to North America. Maybe an episodic DSiWare release?
