If you are going to format your system memory, you will need to have a backup of everything. You can transfer the pictures back and I know a nifty trick to transfer your DsiWare.

1. Backup everything onto a SD Card.

2. Take out your game cartridge.

3. Go to System Settings>Format System memory and say yes to each.

4. Wait.

5. Once formatted, connect to the internet and download all the DsiWare again.

6. Now overwrite the ones you just downloaded with the ones on the SD Card!

You must do step 5 otherwise it will not copy from the SD Card.

The point is if you brick your DSi (flash card method, Version 1.4) it will erase it. if it is a DS Game, you don't need to take it out. If it is a flash card, take it out.
